Indian star Tamannaah Bhatia is a rarity in that she has projects across global streamers Disney Plus Hotstar, Netflix and Amazon. On top of that, she is a top box office draw in the Telugu and Tamil-language film industries.
Bhatia was one of the leads, playing a warrior princess, in S.S. Rajamouli’s “Baahubali” films. They released in 2015 and 2017 and collected $330 million, making them among the highest grossing Indian films of all time. The films also travelled widely, including to the Busan Film Festival, where both parts screened to much audience adulation.
The “Baahubali” films happened at a time when Bhatia had, in her words, appeared in several Hindi-language films that were “disappointing as an experience.”
“It was amazing to see such a unanimous appeal to a film – I never imagined that was ever even possible. So much so that I hear the same applause even now,” Bhatia told Variety.

TollywoodSome film experts observe that a multi-starrer, irrespective of the content, will get decent traction till Sunday, thus recovering a majority of the amount spent making it. Priyanka RichiMulti-starrer movies have always been a rage in Tollywood. Unlike other industries where multi-starrers have an unpredictable run at the box-office, in Tollywood, from the Ntr-anr combo in the 70s to Rajamouli’s Baahubali, the presence of multiple heroes (and only heroes) have pulled huge crowds to theatres. The satellite rights of yet to release Rrr, which has both Ram Charan and Jr Ntr playing pivotal roles, have been sold for a whopping Rs 132 crore, even surpassing the figures of Rajinikanth’s 2.0. Barring a few exceptions, star value has always assured Tollywood movies of a decent box-office collection. So, what propels such fandom for multiple heroes on the silver-screen? What makes Tollywood different from other industries in ensuring success to multi-starrers? Is...

TollywoodDubbed as ‘Mahesh 25’, the film marks the first time collaboration between the actor and the director.Digital NativeDigital NativeFollowing the phenomenal success of Bharat Ane Nenu, in which he played a Chief Minister, superstar Mahesh Babu joined the sets of his next film which is directed by Vamsi Paidipally. Dubbed as Mahesh 25, the film marks the first time collaboration between the actor and the director. On Monday, the yet-untitled film went on the floors in Dehradun where the shooting will take place for the next two weeks. Mahesh sports a new look for the film. Earlier this month, his pictures sporting a stubble and moustache went viral on social media. It’s worth mentioning that Mahesh was seen with a fake moustache for a few seconds in a song in Bharat Ane Nenu. After shooting briefly in India, the Mahesh 25 team will leave for the Us, where a predominant portion of the film will be shot. While the rest of the cast and crew are yet to be finalised, Pooja Hegde has already been signed as the leading lady. The film marks the foray of well-known lensman Ku Mohanan, known for his work in Bollywood films such as Don and Raees, into the Telugu film industry. Recently, rumours emerged that Mahesh 25 was based on some international series. When a fan pointed this out and asked Vamsi Paidipally to clarify, the latter wrote on Twitter that the news was baseless as his film was not based on any series. To be jointly bankrolled by Dil Raju and Aswini Dutt, Vamsi Paidipally said in an earlier interaction that the project will be a big film in both their careers. Having won over audiences and critics alike with his last film, the comedy-drama Oopiri, which explores the bond between a quadriplegic millionaire and his convict-turned-caretaker, film buffs are eager to know what the director has to offer with Mahesh Babu.
