“I always tell people it just feels like ‘Tig in space.'”
That’s Tig Notaro on her “Star Trek: Discovery” character, Jett Reno, who’s a deadpan wisecracking, nickname-assigning engineer on the show. Out of the blue, Jett will call another character “Bobcat” or suddenly reveal an expected part of her past, such as her former life as a bookseller or bartender. Gauntlet thrown to Paramount+ to release the recipe for Jett’s “Seven of Limes.”
Needless to say, Jett’s become a fan favorite, and in a new interview with IndieWire, Notaro opens up a bit about just how much Jett means to her too — a lot.
“Yeah, who knows?” Notaro said when asked if there’s a chance we could continue to see Jett on “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy,” the planned series that will take place after “Discovery” wraps up. “Maybe the full-blown Jett Reno spinoff. I...

Star Trek: Discovery, which is the 7th series that encompassed the massive Star Trek franchise, debuted its first season in 2017 and is now in its 5th and final season which aired in Paramount+ on April 4, 2024. The show is a prequel that follows the crew of the starship Discovery a decade before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series.

The series, though, has not quite caught the fancy of audiences in the same manner as its predecessors. While the 5th season saw some promising numbers initially, this statistic seems to have declined rapidly over the next few weeks thereby indicating that the show could culminate without much fanfare.

Star Trek’s story has spanned decades and has had many who have followed it. From shows and movies to specials and even books, there have been many mediums to tell this beautiful tale. The latest addition has been that of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, taking the franchise into its next era. As the story takes its next steps, has managed to stay close to its roots, having several cast members from the original series.

However, it would seem that this time is coming to an end. After directing his last episode, Frakes is going out with a bang.

The world of Star Trek has gifted us with unlimited access to intergalactic adventures, with every chapter taking us to a new frontier of space exploration among the stars. Packed with delightful missions, strange worlds, unpredictable species, and interstellar travel, the franchise has driven the audienceʼs imagination with brand-new possibilities for a potential-filled universe occupied by stories and experiences that can only be found hidden within the wildest imaginations of a mad scientist.
Star Trek: The Next Generation [Credit: Paramount Domestic Television]For Trekkies, only having access to unlimited potential means nothing if one cannot chart the farthest reaches of the universe that they were tasked with exploring. Star Trek: Legacy promised one such potentially fulfilling experience but the light was snuffed out sooner than one could even come up with a way of saving the show, despite the studioʼs complete reluctance to green light it.

David Cronenberg is one of our greatest living directors; a Canadian auteur who made a name for himself with body horror masterpieces like "Scanners," "The Fly," and "Videodrome," just to name a few. And every now and then, Cronenberg will step in front of the camera, too. He has a memorable supporting turn as the villain in Clive Barker's "Nightbreed." And he has cameos in films such as "To Die For" and "Jason X." He also appeared in several seasons of "Star Trek: Discovery" as the character Doctor Kovich.
With Cronenberg having spent so much time on the series, you might have wondered: why didn't he direct any episodes? He is, after all, a director first, actor second. Well, according to Cronenberg himself, it's not a gig he's particularly interested in. When asked by StarTrek.com what would happen if he was asked to direct an episode of the show,...

Jonathan Frakes has been directing episodes of various “Star Trek” series for the past 34 years, from his first episode behind the camera, “Next Generation” installment “The Offspring,” to the most recent episode of “Star Trek: Discovery.” He is continuity for the franchise that doesn’t quite exist in any other way.
And now, his “Star Trek” directing past is coming back to inform the present. An episode of “Next Gen” he directed in 1993, “The Chase,” is the inspiration for this entire fifth and final season of “Discovery.” A huge plot point from that episode — all of the sentient species in the galaxy were “planned,” billions of years ago, to spring up as they have by a highly advanced prior species called the Progenitors, who seeded the rudiments of their/our DNA on different planets — forms the basis for this 10-episode final run of the show that relaunched the “Star Trek” franchise on TV.

In the Star Trek: Discovery episode “Labyrinths,” Captain Michael Burnham finds herself trapped in a puzzle inside her mind, all part of a test to uncover the location of a powerful artifact. Realizing that the labyrinth reflects her personality, Burnham confesses a fear of failure that has been plaguing her. The cathartic sharing unlocks the puzzle, giving her the last bit of information that she needs to find the artifact.
For Discovery‘s critics, the solution to “Labyrinths” represents the show at its worst. Instead of using logic or maneuvers to solve the problem, Burnham gets in touch with her feelings. These sort of weepy moments have been a mainstay of Discovery, and often carry over into other modern Star Trek shows, including Picard and Strange New Worlds.
Some have argued that Discovery tries, with mixed success, to position emotional intelligence as a viable problem-solving technique. It’s all part...

For Star Trek: Discovery‘s penultimate episode, an icon from the franchise stepped behind the camera: Jonathan Frakes, who starred as Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation and reprised the role on Picard. And for him, it was just returning to a set he enjoys, for his eighth episode behind the camera on Discovery. In the episode, members of the crew infiltrate the Breen ship in hopes of getting their hands on a key piece of tech for their mission to find the Progenitors’ power. But even amidst the action, there’s time for some emotional beats. Below, Frakes takes us inside the episode, looks back on Discovery, and teases a Strange New Worlds Season 3 episode he directed. What excited you about this script as a director? Jonathan Frakes: There’s a lot more action than I’m usually given, and the whole direction, if you will, of the...

The finale of Shōgun pushed the series to its best showing so far on Nielsen’s streaming charts.
The FX-produced Hulu series had 608 million minutes of viewing time for the week of its finale, April 22-28. That’s a 45 percent jump from the prior week and Shōgun’s highest total in the nine weeks it has made the top 10. Its previous best was 513 million minutes for its premiere week, which featured the debut of two episodes.
Fallout claimed the overall No. 1 spot for the third straight week, the first such streak for a show on Amazon’s Prime Video. The series had 1.53 billion minutes of viewing, down by about 41 percent week to week. Its three-week total is now a little over 7 billion minutes.
Netflix’s water-cooler drama Baby Reindeer saw a 36 percent jump in viewing, climbing to 915 million minutes from 673 million a week earlier. Several original series also made...

Game of Thrones and The Witcher had one thing in common. They veered too far off the source text and kept going until the fans tasted nothing but bitterness and the critics foamed at their mouths with razor-sharp expletives. Star Trek: Discovery could very well be headed down the same road after one Season 5 announcement throws the original fans off their seat with a measure of abject horror.

Given the state of adaptations, remakes, and spin-offs in the current era of the entertainment industry, it can be said with enough accumulated expertise gained through experience that it never ends well for those who overstay their welcome. Currently, Star Trek: Discovery aims to do just that with its storyline which has by far run its course after launching to warm reviews in September 2017.

The cramped quarters of the USS Discovery bridge have felt oddly spacious lately, haven't they? As "Star Trek: Discovery" swoops in for a landing with its fifth and final season drawing to a definitive close, viewers may have noticed that several side characters remain missing in action. Essential crew members such as Lieutenant Commanders Detmer (Emily Coutts) and Owosekun (Oyin Oladejo) haven't been seen since episode 4's "Face the Strange," whisked away on a mission to pilot the mirror-universe starship Iss Enterprise to safe harbor. For a series that has drawn so much emotional bandwidth out of its supporting cast over the years, watching Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) deliver orders and offer encouragement to stand-in officers we've never met before can't help but feel ... off.

This Star Trek: Discovery review contains spoilers
Apologies to those who thought the penultimate episode of Star Trek: Discovery season 5 might finally give us some concrete information about what the Progenitors’ mysterious and potentially universe-altering technology might be, because it doesn’t. Although “Lagrange Point” is a fast-paced and fairly action-packed hour, it is also largely setup for next week’s finale, and answers none questions any of us have about the larger story of this season. This isn’t exactly a new problem for Discovery—a show that has long struggled with pacing—but suddenly everything just feels uncomfortably rushed.
We now have a single episode left to find Michael and Moll, stop a Breen war, locate the magical MacGuffin technology we’ve been chasing all season, wrap up the Progenitors story, and say a final goodbye to this show and its characters. It feels like there can’t...

Abrams relaunched the franchise in 2009, the stage was set for it to become a mainstream property, something which looked increasingly likely when the sequels - Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond - were also moderate box office hits. Unfortunately, Star Trek 4 has been stuck in development hell for several years.
Filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino, Matt Shakman, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet are just some of the names who have been attached to the movie in recent years, with none of them ultimately sticking around.
Now, with it seemingly no closer to becoming a reality, it seems Paramount's next prequel project is finally taking shape.

Prolific author Anthony Horowitz has scripted mystery drama Nine Bodies In A Mexican Morgue, here are the details.
Anthony Horowitz is perhaps best known for creating the Alex Rider franchise, which so far comprises fourteen novels, seven short stories, a critically maligned 2006 film and a popular television drama on Amazon Prime, the third and final series of which aired last month. He has also written many standalone novels and the terrific Horowitz Horror books of horror stories for older children.
However, he is just as prolific writing for the screen, creating the brilliant time travel drama Crime Traveller, which starred Michael French and Red Dwarf star Chloe Annett, ITV drama Foyle’s War and the television adaptation of his novel Magpie Murders.
His latest series is Nine Bodies In A Mexican Morgue, which has been acquired by the BBC. The synopsis reads as follows:

This post contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Discovery."
In its final season, "Star Trek: Discovery" has reintroduced a species of aliens that "Star Trek" fans haven't seen in live-action in decades. The Breen, a mysterious warrior race that first appeared in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," have made their surprise return in recent weeks thanks to the gooier half of ill-fated courier duo Moll (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Elias Toufexis).
In their original incarnation, the Breen appeared clad in metal helmets with snout-like protrusions and green laser-like eye bands. They were typically covered up in outfits featuring diagonal metal bands, and though characters on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" often made offhand comments about what the then-unseen aliens might be like, little was explained about their culture in the 20th century "Star Trek" shows. Enter "Discovery," which has a long track record of building upon and deepening existing in-universe lore.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds may have been relatively new to the scene as far as the adventures of the USS Enterprise are concerned but it is far from being a lame attempt at a cash-grab spin-off. Starring Anson Mount, Rebecca Romjin, and Ethan Peck in the lead cast, the new series explores worlds far beyond the stretches of what the known galaxy holds.

Created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, Star Trek: Discovery has continued to captivate fans for years and has shaped a new era for Star Trek shows, which will be coming to an end with Season 5. Last year, Paramount announced that Season 5 would be the last season of the show. As the show gears up for its finale, one cast member recently reflected on her journey in the sci-fi universe.

It has been a long journey for the Trekkies since the original Star Trek series took off in 1966. Starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, the legend and legacy that the sci-fi series established survived through economic collapses, global wars, and one pandemic only to come out the other end better than before.

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers.
With the release of this week’s “Labyrinths,” Star Trek: Discovery only has two more episodes to go before its series finale, which will have to wrap up not only its season-long Progenitor mystery but multiple character arcs at the same time. It’s a lot for one of the most action-adventure-oriented Trek series ever. Still, we didn’t mind that Discovery took a second to pause with an introspective episode before jumping back into the breakneck action of what will become the final two stories. In “Labyrinths,” Captain Burnham enters inside what she thinks is an ancient Betazoid book. Instead, she ends up in a mindscape created by her own subconscious.
This is classic Star Trek stuff, an entire sci-fi adventure that happens almost exclusively in the mind of one character but is full of emotional stakes that directly impact the physical stakes in the outside world.

The new deal will keep CBS the exclusive television home of Pbr events until 2030.
CBS is ready to saddle up for the long term once again. Pbr (Professional Bull Riders) has announced a new broadcasting deal with CBS and Dr. Phil’s Merit Street Television which will see Pbr events say goodbye to tape delays in favor of live windows on weekends, and will keep CBS as a partner of the Pbr until 2030. The deal will provide the most live coverage the sport has ever seen, and fans will have even more reasons to watch as CBS and Merit will surround live events with shoulder programming for the first time, demonstrating the value of Pbr and proving once again that sports leagues still see the value in over-the-air channels.
Key Details: Pbr will get consistent live broadcasting windows on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in the new deal. Pre- and post-event...

Kevin Spacey is facing another sexual assault trial in the UK next year, but today the two-time Oscar winner saw some major star power in his corner.
Liam Neeson, Sharon Stone and Stephen Fry have come forward with unequivocal support for Spacey as the much-accused actor has been back in the spotlight via new Channel 4 docuseries with even more allegations of severe misconduct.
“I was deeply saddened to learn of these accusations against him,” Taken franchise star Neesom told the Telegraph today. “Kevin is a good man and a man of character. He’s sensitive, articulate and non-judgmental, with a terrific sense of humour. He is also one of our finest artists in the theatre and on camera.
“Personally speaking, our industry needs him and misses him greatly,” Neeson, no total stranger to controversy himself, concluded.
Basic Instinct star Stone told the UK broadsheet: “I can’t wait to see Kevin back at work.

Having fun isn’t hard if you’ve got a library card on the latest episode of Star Trek: Discovery, which sees Captain Michael Burnham and company visit the Eternal Gallery and Archive, a mobile knowledge bank that is, hands down, the absolute coolest of the five locations we’ve visited on this season-long clue hunt. To be fair, “Labyrinths” isn’t an episode where all that much happens, but its premise still makes for a surprisingly satisfying hour, and the slow-moving approach of the Breen adds some nice tension to Michael’s vision quest into her own psyche.
Full of one-of-a-kind manuscripts, rare artifacts, and other priceless items from cultures both present and lost, the Archive is exactly the kind of location that fits the adventure-themed feel of the season. It also looks cool as hell, packed to the gills with books...

As another M&a opportunity is potentially headed to the scrap heap, Paramount may be left to go it alone.
There’s very little about Paramount Global’s recent ownership question that has gone the way that company officials would want. The special committee designated to consider merger and acquisition opportunities is now working through its second major offer for the company, a $26 billion bid by Sony and its private equity firm partner Apollo Global Management. But a new report from CNBC is casting doubt on whether Sony really wants to follow through with its attempt to purchase Paramount Global, and it appears increasingly likely that the company won’t be sold at all.
Key Details: CNBC’s David Faber reports that Sony is “rethinking” its bid for Paramount Global. Due diligence has not begun, so while deal talks could still heat up, the two sides are not progressing as they would have hoped.

Here is the complete list of streaming services with more subscribers than Paramount+: Netflix, Disney+, and maybe Max. (Warner Bros. Discovery does not break out linear HBO from its Max/Discovery+ number.) That’s it.
Paramount+ has 71 million subscribers, and yet the prevailing theory is that whomever buys Paramount (or control of Paramount) — if anyone does — will shutter the SVOD/AVOD service.
Why’s that? Well, for starters, Paramount+ has yet to make money. It’s on the clock, though: Paramount management has the streamer pegged to turn a profit in the U.S. in 2025. It’d be a shame to close something that has lost billions of dollars right before it starts to make money — unless you’d make more money licensing the content currently on the platform, that is.
And that is almost surely what Sony would do if it ended up as the owner of Paramount’s assets,...

The first season of "Star Trek: Discovery" was swift, action-packed, and all over the place. No sooner had audiences been introduced to Michael Burnham (Sonqua Martin-Green) than a war broke out and her captain was killed. Michael was arrested for insubordination and had to travel on board the U.S.S. Discovery on her way to face a court martial. She soon found that the Discovery hosted an expert mycologist named Lieutenant Stamets (Anthony Rapp), and he had discovered a previously undetected universe-wide network of interdimensional spores. He also found that he -- using tardigrade DNA -- could wire the Discovery's engines into this network and teleport anywhere instantaneously. To heck with Trekking. Now we bamf about the galaxy.
To complicate matters, however, the Discovery miscalculates one of its teleportations and winds up in the notorious parallel Mirror Universe, wherein everyone is evil and Earth is an Imperial conquering force.

After years of portraying fantastical creatures, I'm glad Doug Jones finally felt comfortable enough to appear as his regular self in "The Shape of Water." While his acting career began in the late 1980s, it wasn't until the '90s that the tall, lanky maestro of disguise found his niche performing in prosthetics. His minor role as "Thin Clown" in "Batman Returns" aside, though, it was Jones' turn as William "Billy" Butcherson in director Kenny Ortega's cult 1993 fantasy comedy "Hocus Pocus" that put the actor -- who recently played the Kelpien Starfleet officer Saru on "Star Trek: Discovery" -- squarely on the map.
Billy, as we come to learn, is a ponytailed gentleman from the 17th century who was poisoned by the witch Winifred Sanderson (Bette Midler). She also proceeded to stitch his shut mouth to keep him quiet, even in death. Why so harsh? "Hocus Pocus" implies that...

Prime Video has touted the viewer response to Fallout as its second-biggest series ever worldwide over 16 days of release. In the United States (and over a shorter time period), it’s No. 1.
Fallout recorded 2.9 billion minutes of viewing time in the U.S. over its first five days, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings for April 8-14. That’s far and away the best opening for a series on the Amazon-owned Prime Video, beating Reacher’s series premiere week in early 2022 (1.84 billion minutes) by more than a billion minutes.
The series also had more than double the second-place show on the list for the week: Bluey had 1.39 billion minutes of viewing in the week leading up to and including the release of its special episode “The Sign,” which premiered on April 14.
Netflix’s unscripted series Unlocked: A Jail Experiment placed second among original series with 889 million minutes of viewing. Star Trek: Discovery...

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers.
Since its inception in 2017, Star Trek: Discovery has been compared to various aspects of the Star Trek franchise. But, perhaps the show it most closely resembles, at least tonally, is Deep Space Nine, the gritty ‘90s spin-off of The Next Generation. And, with its fifth and final season, it feels like Discovery knows it’s the Deep Space Nine of modern Trek, and has leaned into that feeling more than ever.
The series has also taken on the mantle of being the new DS9 by simply making a ton of references to that series, as well as continuing huge storylines from that series. In the 7th episode of season 5, “Erigah,” Discovery makes a ton of references to the breadth of the Trek canon, with a specific focus on DS9. Here’s all the best easter eggs and shout-outs you might have missed.

Shields up! This article contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Discovery."
Everything old will eventually become new again. Of all the various traditions and tropes upheld by "Star Trek" over the decades, perhaps none ring quite as true as that maxim. Don't believe me? Well, in just the last few weeks alone, this final season of "Discovery" has circled back to one of the most famous episodes of "The Original Series" ever made, gone out of its way to pick up a loose plot thread from "The Next Generation," and even drop the biggest reveal of them all: The Breen are back and as deadly as ever. For such a forward-looking enterprise (pun insufferably intended), there's no doubting the fact that the past has always played an integral role in the beloved sci-fi series.
This week's episode of "Discovery" does nothing to contradict that ongoing trend ... but,...

Bryan Fuller and A24 have severed ties over the “Friday the 13th” Peacock prequel series.
The show was announced in 2022 at Peacock with the title “Crystal Lake,” and while details were kept under wraps, the series was confirmed to be a prequel to the original 1980 slasher film that followed the Voorhees mother-son duo as teenagers were murdered at an abandoned summer camp.
The series will go on, IndieWire has confirmed. A24 will remain the studio and Peacock the platform — they’re currently searching for a new showunner. Production on the series had yet to start.
“Adapting classic horror is something I have some experience with. These shows require a vision that elevates and transforms, as well as delivers what audiences have come to expect, which is an ambitious and risky endeavor. It requires people to take the leap with me,” Fuller captioned on Instagram. “For reasons beyond our control, A...
