Shot in 18 days.
The film's original title was "Beat-Up Little Seagull" which was a lyric taken from the Nina Simone song "Baltimore." However, once director Andrew Dosunmu and screenwriter Darci Picoult finished filming, they were encouraged to think of a different title. Picoult kept going back and forth and ended up finding something very evocative about "Where is Kyra?" which was chosen.
Was partially filmed on location at Gotham Thrift Shop in Ridgewood Queens, New York.
Premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
