The woman sitting to the left of Rodrigo is the actual owner of the house, and she has lived there for many years.
This is a Mexican contemporary classical piece, by Arturo Márquez called Danzon No.2. Gustavo Dudamel included the piece on the program of his 2007 tour of Europe and the United States with the Simon Bolívar Youth Orchestra.
Edible cactus, called nopales, are popular throughout Mexico. They have a crunchy texture raw, and when cooked they taste similar to tart green beans or asparagus. They are especially good with Mexican recipes that include tomatoes, peppers, and corn.
The statue is of Tlaloc, who is the Aztec god of water and rain (and thus also of fertility). It was found 30 miles outside of Mexico City, and in 1964 it was transported to its current location in front of the National Museum of Anthropology. It weighs 168 tons and it's 23 feet high.
