It is rare to come across a good horror comedy, especially in the Malayalam cinema scene. It is not often that you get to watch a film that brings you not just comedy but also satire, divinity, and the belief in supernatural occurrences. Does any of that even exist, to begin with? Written and directed by Jithu Madhavan, “Romancham,” which means goosebumps, is based on a real story of seven bachelors who are trying to build a life of their own in Bangalore in the year 2007. Amidst all the chaos in their lives, the men decide to conduct a séance, but does it go south pretty quickly? Does a playful séance activity turn into something totally scary, or is it just a part of their imagination?

The Challenge: Australia champ Kiki Morris returned for the World Championship, hoping to notch a global victory in her belt. She proved herself in her season as she eliminated Olympic swimmer Emily Seebohm on her way to the finals and already showed the World Championship players that she was there to compete with an early elimination win and a daily challenge victory to her name by episode 5. Additionally, the house came to a stalemate and couldn’t agree on which teams to nominate for elimination against Wes Bergmann and Zara Zoffany, unknowingly putting all the power in Kiki and her partner Darrell Taylor’s hands as they could pick any team. In a recent podcast interview, the Australian native detailed her start on reality TV, noting her past as a swimsuit model might have played a part.

J.K Simmons and Julie Delpy star in Kurt Voelker’s touching, but at times slightly misjudged indie drama about a grieving school teacher attempting to survive the tragic loss of his wife and mother of his teenage son. Written and directed by Voelker, The Bachelors offers a commendable study in grief and heartache, but sadly never quite manages to ring true enough for it to be anything else but a cliché-laden coming-of-age story.
To overcome the sadness brought on by the loss of his wife, Maths teacher Bill (J.K. Simmons) has decided to start a new life with his teenage son Wes (Josh Wiggins) away from a home which still reminds both of them of their huge loss. When he is offered a new position at a private school by an old college friend, Bill decides to pack up and leave his old life behind in the hope that...

Declining the sexual advances of a Hollywood director early in her career earned Delpy an enduring reputation for being ‘difficult’. She talks about how, despite her successes, she is still battling misogyny in the film industry today
Julie Delpy is angry. Right now, the French actor and director should be up to her neck in spreadsheets. For three years, she has worked night and day “fighting, fighting, fighting” to get her sixth film as a writer-director, My Zoe, financed. The script is the best thing she has ever written, she says, a mother-daughter drama “with a crazy third act”. The plan was to shoot this spring, but in November, the night before Thanksgiving, a financier pulled out at the 11th hour, spooked she believes, by a “sexist” American lawyer advising him. “My God, the guy was like a poison.”
So here we are, drinking tea in a fancy Paris hotel a few days before Christmas.

After playing J. Jonah Jameson, the cigar-chomping editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle, in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, J.K. Simmons is stepping into the rain-soaked shoes of Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon in the hotly anticipated Justice League, and he says he's looking to bring a different kind of ruggedness to the role.
Et's Ashley Crossan recently sat down with the Oscar winner to talk about taking on the iconic role, and Simmons recalled how daunting the opportunity felt when he first met with director Zack Snyder.
"I don't know anything about show business," Simmons hilariously prefaced his account of his first meeting with the blockbuster director. "My agent called and said, 'Zack Snyder wants to meet with you,' and I was like, 'Awesome. Who's that?' And he was like, 'He's like one of the biggest directors.' Not even like, 'This is what it's about,' just, 'Go meet...

"The only way you're going to feel better is if we figure out some way for you to let her go..." Freestyle Media has unveiled the first trailer for The Bachelors, an indie dramedy directed by Kurt Voelker that first premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival. The film is about a man, played by J.K. Simmons, who takes his teenage son and moves into the big city after his wife dies. As they each begin to adjust to their new life and seek ways to heal their wounds, they both find comfort in newfound romance. The impressive cast includes Julie Delpy, Josh Wiggins, Kevin Dunn, and Odeya Rush. This looks charming and heartfelt, and full of some fun scenes as well as touching moments. As usual for American indies, but I'm still curious. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Kurt Voelker's The Bachelors, direct from YouTube: After...

The majority of movies at film festivals don’t release trailers beforehand, so we often choose which films to see based on the filmmakers involved, the cast, and a brief description. Approaching a movie fresh is a hugely different experience than seeing one that’s strategically unveiled three trailers and a barrage of TV spots, and because […]

Exclusive: Twenty-two years ago — longer than the young star of The Bachelors Josh Wiggins has been alive — writer-director Kurt Voelker and then-producer Matt Baer began a friendship. Kurt was just out of film school, and Baer was working at management company Brillstein-Grey. They began working on a film based on a popular video game at the time called Leisure Suit Larry. Not exactly slowing his roll, Hong Sang-soo is already shooting the follow-up to last year’s Right Now, Wrong Then — one of the finest films we saw in 2015, and one likely to end up on a few best-of-2016 lists if it actually gets released — all the while reuniting with leads Jung Jae-young and Kim Min-hee. Information on his 18th feature remains essentially non-existent to outsiders, but such is my enthusiasm for his work, arguably the best streak in modern cinema, that even a brief notice seems worthwhile.
