Kate Mara and Simon Pegg are in negotiations to star in the independent thriller “Inheritance” with British director Vaughn Stein attached.
The film explores what happens when the patriarch of a wealthy and powerful family suddenly passes away, leaving his wife and daughter with a shocking secret inheritance that threatens to unravel and destroy their lives.
Highland Film Group launched foreign sales at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, Calif. this week. UTA and Highland Film Group are co-repping the U.S. rights.
Matthew Kennedy wrote the script, and Richard B. Lewis is producing through his Southpaw Entertainment banner alongside David Wulf of WulfPak Productions, and Convergent Media’s Dan Reardon and Santosh Govindaraju.
“Inheritance” is Highland’s second collaboration with Stein; it previously partnered on his debut film “Terminal,” which was released earlier this year.
Mara’s credits include Ridley Scott’s “The Martian,” “Meagan Leavey” and “Chappaquidick.

Netflix has set Medal of Honor, an eight-episode original docuseries honoring eight recipients of the military’s highest award for valor, from James Moll (The Last Days) and his Allentown Productions and Robert Zemeckis’ Compari Entertainment, a division of Zemeckis’ ImageMovers. The series launches globally November 9 on Netflix; watch the trailer above.
The Medal of Honor has been bestowed upon fewer than 3,600 Americans since Abraham Lincoln signed it into law in 1861. In each episode of the docuseries, family members and brothers-in-arms recall the extraordinary odds faced by the servicemen, and through intense recreations and archival footage, viewers get inside their minds to uncover how they handled what many have described as “the worst day of their lives.”
Medal of Honor is produced by Allentown Productions and Compari Entertainment. Moll executive produces with Compari Entertainment’s Zemeckis, Jack Rapke and Jacqueline Levine, and Brandon Birtell.

Like any other critic, I like being pleasantly surprised, especially by well-made, atmospheric and frequently unnerving psychological thrillers. It is, after all, a sub-genre that’s relatively easy to try to make, but hard to master; that is why every year we get more and more subpar and laughably cheesy horror movies in theatres, productions that, despite having good intentions or trying to imitate the best in the business, normally end up going through the motions. Scaring the hell out of an audience is no easy feat, especially when you lack traditionally frightening elements such as spirits, demons, monsters, or blood and gore. This is why I had a pretty good time watching “Inheritance”, an indie thriller that manages to do quite a bit with pure...

Not even a year has passed since The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival emerged as a must-attend genre festival, but year two is already looking to cement such talk. We Got This Covered reported from the trenches last October, where I served as one of the festival’s inaugural judges. The films were strong and the drinks stronger, only increasing excitement for year two. Fast-forward to September 2017 and the countdown clock has just about run out. Something we couldn’t be happier for.
Birth.Movies.Death. was lucky enough to announce Brooklyn Horror’s first wave, including buzzed-about highlights such as Tragedy Girls (one of my favorites from SXSW) and Sequence Break (a Fantasia Fest favorite for me). You’ve also got Housewife, Baskin director Can Evrenol’s sophomore feature, among other notable selections. Be sure to peruse Wave 1’s sacrificial offerings, but that’s old news – are you ready for Round 2? I know,...

The month of June has been flying by quicker than I can even believe, as we’re already a week out from the end of the 2017 Dances With Films festival, which took over the historic Chinese Theater in Los Angeles earlier this month. During Dwf, I had the opportunity to catch several intriguing genre films, including Devil’s Whisper, Inheritance, Imitation Girl, and Central Park, and here’s a summary of my thoughts on these four flicks:
Devil’s Whisper: There are a few aspects that I enjoyed about Devil’s Whisper, but unfortunately in the end, a somewhat predictable conclusion coupled with some hokey dialogue ends up derailing the supernatural story from becoming anything beyond “it’s fine.”
Co-writer/director Adam Ripp admirably takes the road left traveled in Devil’s Whisper (especially in relation to other recent possession-related movies), as we follow a teenager named Alex (Luca Oriel...

Later today, writer/director Tyler Savage’s psychological thriller Inheritance will celebrate its world premiere at the 2017 Dances With Films Festival in Los Angeles. Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Savage earlier this week, and he discussed the inspirations behind his story, collaborating with his stellar ensemble, and more.
Look for more on Inheritance and some of the other great film selections at Dwf 2017 in the coming week.
Let's start at the beginning, Tyler. Can you discuss what inspired your story for this, because it's a slow burn, but I love that stuff. I love any movie that pulls the layers back a little bit, and slowly reveals its hand. Obviously, family is the core theme to this movie, but I would love to hear about what inspired your approach. It's a really fascinating look into the things that bind us to these really horrific tragedies.
Tyler Savage: Well,...
