The show missed an opportunity with Zach
VBeretta19 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It is easy to see how Zach, Penny's ex, grew in the minds of the writers over time. From a stock character we see, in a key episode, how he is not a genius but not stupid, got him as Superman in the Justice League group, and here he teaches a thing or two to the eggheads - not to mention a very funny lesson for Raj. Zach could have been the male equivalent of Penny: a down to earth character who knows how to get along, have fun and even give surprising wisdom. He immediately nails the basic implications of a very complex project, pointing out a moral dilemma that went over the heads of the "geniuses". His final "Wow. Maybe none of you guys are smart" is one of the funniest lines of the whole season. Zach deserved the role of a semi-regular and the show missed an opportunity in not developing him more.

Zach Is a Great Character

I was pleased to see the return of Zach, Penny's ex. He is one of my favorite characters. He is not the least pretentious, he is charming in a dumb way. And clueless most of the time. Everyone else is full of angst, but he keeps rolling along. This is about a wine tasting where Bernadette can't come and so she spends the evening with Sheldon. Also, Raj's new girlfriend is caught in a crazy place because of Raj's lack of self esteem.

Great episode!

Loved seeing Zach again and with a fun role in this episode! It added so much to the interaction between characters. Great scenes with Sheldon and Bernadette and of course their interaction is entertaining! Always good to see old friends return to the show. We know their personalities, but the writers create wonderful dialogue and relationships. Zach's lines were super funny. Thanks for this episode! Interested to see how Raj's relationship with Claire proceeds after the challenges established. Not sure why we lost Emily from the cast? We enjoyed seeing the partners interact with others partners from time to time and this episode provided that. Almost as good as Amy & Howard singing Neil Diamond! Zach added some zest to their discussion and their moral dilemmas so he was a welcome visitor. What a pleasant surprise to see him at the wine tasting! Curious how Bernadette will deal with the pregnancy belly strap on next season!
