This is a marvelous Russian TV serial. I watch in Russian. It gives me a lot of hope for the future, as there is nothing like it on American TV or internet. I'm not sure why Netflix picked this up. I'm sure most readers know why I said this.
The two lead actors do a dance though a series of training exercises whereby Esenya (Paulina Andreevna) learns to identify and search for serial killers. Her mentor Meglin puts her through a long period of training. We don't learn why he has taken his first "trainee" for some time...we do learn a lot of Rodion Meglin's history. We are only fed the information that Esenya, and new law school graduate, is really searching fo her mother's killer.
I have watched the film several times--I can see no faults. I know what Moscow looks like and this is it, inside and out. Changing roles and class structure are obvious, as is the alcoholism. Be prepared for some gritty reality.
I honestly was shocked that season 2 was shot 4 years after season one. We are not told why. But sat the same time, Paulina Andreevna was starring in "Better than Us" which I also rated very highly. I usually wait to watch credits, and was shocked that she plays both Esenya and Arisa. She is a truly great young actress!
