After the Wedding
These comments refer to the whole two part story, not just episode two.
This episode opens with the marriage of Dicte and Bo; they don't get chance to go on honeymoon though as Bo is going on a freelance job in Lebanon. He assures her that it is just a few safe meetings in Beirut but almost inevitably he heads to a dangerous area near the Syrian border and this leads to his car being ambushed and him being taken hostage. Dicte is contacted and the kidnappers demand a ransom of three million US dollars. Dicte doesn't have anywhere near that much money; the Danish state won't deal with such people and as he was working freelance his paper's insurance won't pay. Having asked policeman Wagner for help he starts acting as negotiator to get the price down. After a scare Wagner and Dicte head to Lebanon to pay the ransom... things won't go according to plan.
Season three of this Danish crime drama gets off to a good start here. The story gets off to a fine start with Dicte and Bo's wedding before quickly getting into the action. The main story might not be about a murder but that doesn't mean there is no death and it is tense as one is constantly wondering about Bo's safety. We see that he, and his fellow hostages, aren't being treated well. The episode features a few twists, some aren't too surprising but one is very shocking and will clearly affect future stories. Iben Hjejle does a fine job portraying Dicte's distress at the situation; Dar Salim is solid as Bo and Lars Brygmann really impresses as Wagner. Overall a sold season opener with a good story and tension that rises nicely through the show.
