New Zealand author Heather Morris' 2018 novel "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" is getting the adaptation treatment. Sky and Peacock are teaming up to bring the project to the small screen. The best-selling novel tells the true story of Lale Sokolov, a Jewish prisoner of war tasked with tattooing identification numbers onto the arms of prisoners at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during World War II. It's a devastating story that focuses on the romance between Sokolov and his fellow prisoner Gita. It's based on a true story that inspired Morris for her novel (originally written as a screenplay), leading her to meet with Sokolov over years before writing it.
The book has attracted readers of over 15 languages across the globe ... but has also earned its share of criticism. The story has often been slammed for its historical inaccuracy, and accused of memorializing certain events of the Holocaust — but the book has a...

There’s also the updated version of “Father of the Bride” premiering on June 16, while a pair of noteworthy documentaries are coming on the early side this month: “The Janes” premieres June 8 and follows unlikely outlaws in pre-Roe v. With its list of new releases for June 2022, HBO Max is joining in what should be a TV summer to remember.
Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.
Irma Vep is the only other Max Original of note this month. Based on a 1996 cult classic of the same name, this limited series stars Alicia Vikander as a disillusioned movie star looking to remake the early 20th century French silent film serial Les Vampires.

This Star Trek: Picard article contains spoilers.
Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Episode 8
Being trapped in the year 2024 hasn’t prevented Star Trek: Picard from connecting to all corners of the Trek franchise. In some ways, this part of Earth’s history is the most pivotal for the formation of the rest of the timeline. And so, it makes sense that as the series warps towards its impending finale, the rest of the canon is honored and somehow referenced.
Here’s every major easter egg and reference in Star Trek: Picard season 2, episode 8, “Mercy.”
Vulcans on Earth
One of the central plot points in this episode of Picard is the idea that Vulcans were surreptitiously hanging around on Earth. Prior to the Vulcan-human meeting in First Contact, one stand-out episode of the prequel series Enterprise, “Carbon Creek,” retroactively established that some Vulcans were surveying Earth in 1957. Now, with the flashback to...

The following contains Star Trek: Picard spoilers
Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Episode 8
At this point, it seems like we all need to just admit that the pacing of Star Trek: Picard Season 2 is a problem. Its primary story has progressed in the barest of fits and starts over the course of the last two episodes, and rather than give us any concrete answers about Q’s plans, how Picard and friends can save the future, or what Adam Soong and his Orphan Black-style clone experiments have to do with anything, the show generally seems content to tread water, occasionally poking at interesting plot threads or character quirks as it sets up cliffhangers that largely go nowhere.
Look, even a mediocre Star Trek: Picard episode is better than a lot of things on TV right now, and with a cast that’s this consistently great it’s pretty easy to ignore...

Three mystery celebrities hit the stage on Wednesday’s Group B final of “The Masked Singer.” Team Good was represented by Armadillo and Ringmaster while Team Cuddly sent out Miss Teddy. Everyone tried their best, but ultimately just one could prevail. Armadillo finished in third place and was revealed to be TV personality Dog the Bounty Hunter. The next to go was Miss Teddy, who belted out “Mercy” by Duffy earlier in the episode. The cuddly bear took off her mask to reveal Grammy and Tony-winning singer and actress, Jennifer Holliday.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 7, Episode 6, of “The Masked Singer,” “The Double Mask-Off — Round 2 Finals,” which aired April 13 on Fox.
The mystery of host Nick Cannon’s missing shirt wasn’t solved on Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” but the show did send one more disguised celebrity to its final round. That meant that two more contestants were eliminated in a double exit on this week’s show: Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman as the Armadillo, and Jennifer Holliday as Miss Teddy.
Armadillo aka Chapman was voted out after singing the traditional hymn “Amazing Grace.” Previous songs he performed included “Secret Agent Man,” by Johnny Rivers and “I Fought the Law,” by the Bobby Fuller Four.
As for Holliday, as Miss Teddy, she sang “Mercy,” by Duffy. Before that, she performed “Tell It to My Heart,” by Taylor Dayne, and “Tell Me You Love Me,...

The dream ended for two more mystery celebrity Masked Singer contestants. On the April 13 episode, a spot in the finale was up for grabs between Miss Teddy, Armadillo and Ringmaster. All three were hoping to join Firefly—who already booked her ticket—in the May 18 showdown. Following a clue package that included a photo of Eddie Murphy and a reference to the Supreme Court, Miss Teddy blew everybody away with her performance of Duffy's "Mercy." Guest panelist Leslie Jordan said he was "gobsmacked" by Teddy's vocal abilities. Up next, Armadillo dedicated a performance of "Amazing Grace" to his mother. Armadillo's clue package included...

Team Good and Team Cuddly both took hits during Wednesday night’s episode of “The Masked Singer” as the contestants faced another double elimination to see who would be joining Firefly in the finals.
Ringmaster came out on top, meaning that Armadillo and Miss Teddy were sent home. Although they were ultimately cut, both impressed the judges with their performances — especially Miss Teddy who sang her heart out to “Mercy” by Duffy.
It’s no surprise that the judges were blown away by her powerful voice, considering that Miss Teddy was none other than original Dream Girl Jennifer Holliday. Before her official unveiling, judge Nicole Scherzinger was able to correctly identify the iconic singer.

It was an unusual evening at the Oscars, with several fresh faces, a veteran actress receiving her first nomination and one film dominating the ceremony. Billy Crystal hosted for the fifth time on March 24, 1997, and kept the ceremony lively, along with award winners who offered some rather entertaining acceptance speeches.
Best Picture winner “The English Patient” dominated, winning nine out of 12 nominations. Fellow Best Picture nominee “Fargo” was the only other recipient of multiple awards, winning two out of seven bids. The films that rounded out that category were “Shine,” which won one out of seven nominations, and “Jerry Maguire” and “Secrets and Lies,” each with five bids, with the former winning one and the latter leaving empty-handed.
A WWII-era epic romance detailing the tragic love affair of a burn victim and his married lover, “The English Patient” claimed victory for its score, sound, art direction, cinematography, costume design and editing.

With a new month upon us, that means Netflix is saying farewell to some favorite films in their library for the time being. And this month, there’s an unusual amount of good movies leaving Netflix. If you’re wondering what to watch before it’s gone, we’ve got a handy guide.
Fans of period dramas and family films, in particular, may find themselves with a lot to catch up on before it leaves Netflix. In the former category, films like “Howard’s End,” “Lawless,” “A River Runs Through It,” “Bright Star,” and “Braveheart” are all expiring in March.
But the Kids and Family section is taking a particularly big hit this month. Animated departures include “Kung Fu Panda,” “Despicable Me” and “Despicable Me 2,” “Happy Feet Two,” a handful of “Pokemon!” movies and series, and meme culture favorite “Bee Movie.” There are also several live-action family classics leaving Netflix in March as well,...

Few artists have had the career Adele’s had. The British singer-songwriter has been arguably the most successful artist of her generation, having dropped four massively successful albums including “21,” which is the biggest Billboard 200 album ever. She has also garnered an unprecedented amount of respect from her industry peers, having swept the Grammys multiple times, and winning a Grammy for each and every one of her eras, something which will likely repeat for her newest record, “30.” In fact, she hasn’t lost a Grammy race since 2010. But before Adele became Adele, before the massive success of “21,” we had “19” from a newcomer who broke through and won Best New Artist in what’s one of the most interesting rises to fame ever.
Adele wasn’t an overnight success. When she first started dropping songs, they were mostly popular in the UK. Eventually she gained a crossover hit with “Chasing Pavements,...

Ten years ago, Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz made it big with mainstream trap production, luxurious rhymes about champagne on airplanes, and non-sequitur punchlines. Chainz was a rapper who could out-rap legends, but his music wasn’t necessarily expansive: There wasn’t the flurry of topics, motifs, sequences, or tics you’d get from someone like Lil Wayne or Kendrick Lamar. But Chainz was good at combining humor with grandiose confidence, delivering his lines in a pinched yet expressive voice that made his music a source of constant jubilation.

"Do something about it!!" Vertical Ent. + Roadside Attractions have revealed the first official trailer for The Desperate Hour, an intense "real time" thriller starring Naomi Watts as a mother. This one originally premiered at the 2021 Toronto Film Festival last year under the title Lakewood (a reference to the location where this film takes place in), but because it received so many mid to bad reviews, they decided to give it a different name. A mother on a jog in the woods desperately races against time to return and save her child as authorities place her small town on lockdown following a school shooting. In addition to Watts, the cast features Colton Gobbo and Sierra Maltby. The screenplay is written by the same writer as the thriller films Buried, Atm, Mercy, and Greenland. This definitely looks very suspenseful, but the big twist partway through this trailer is a bit strange. So...

Keeping it friendly for their fur baby! Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello seem to be on good terms following their much publicized breakup two month ago. On Jan. 6, the former couple met up in a Miami park where they were seen together walking their golden retriever, Tarzan. For the afternoon outing, the former Fifth Harmony member chose a beige-colored, sleeveless sundress paired with flat sandals, while the 23-year-old "Mercy" singer, wore a simple white tee, light-wash jeans and black sneakers, as seen in photos obtained by TMZ. Though fans speculated the pop stars may have rekindled their romance, the friendly exes could just be making the effort to be good co-parents to their pup and remain...

Wendy Morgan‘s animal welfare docu-drama “Mercy” has been picked up by Los Angeles-based distributor All Channel Films, Inc. All Channel Films will represent the film, which premiered at the Awareness Film Festival in October, in the U.S. and Canada across pay and basic cable, video/DVD, VOD/SVOD, PPV and other distribution platforms.
With humans standing in for animals, “Mercy” lifts the lid on the more unpalatable side of the meat industry as told though the eyes of a pig named Mercy as she goes from a factory farm to a slaughterhouse. Maria Austin (“The Reverend and Mrs. Simpson”) plays Mercy alongside Annette Badland (“Ted Lasso”), Mark Wingett (“Quadrophenia”) and Morgan (“Mrs. Lowry and Son”), who wrote and directed the film.
“One of my goals was to bring ‘Mercy’ to North American audiences to raise awareness about the film’s disturbing but important subject matter,” said Morgan.

Fox has ordered the dramedy “The Big Leap” to series for the 2021-2022 broadcast season.
The one-hour show was originally ordered to pilot last year, but production was shutdown by the pandemic. Inspired by the UK docuseries “Big Ballet,” the show is about a group of diverse, down-on-their-luck characters attempting to change their lives by participating in a potentially life-ruining reality dance show that builds to a live production of “Swan Lake.” What this group of underdogs lack in dance training, they make up for with their edge, wit and desire to reimagine an iconic story to fit their own mold.
The cast includes Scott Foley, Simone Recasner, Ser’Darius Blain, Jon Rudnitsky, Raymond Cham Jr., Mallory Jansen, Kevin Daniels, Piper Perabo, and Teri Polo.
The series was created by Liz Heldens, who also executive produces. Sue Naegle executive produces, with Jason Winer having directed and executive produced the pilot. 20th Television and Fox Entertainment produce.

By coming out as trans, Elliot Page has joined the ranks of transgender celebrities like Laverne Cox, Caitlyn Jenner, and Chaz Bono — the first three photos that appear after a Google search for “famous trans people.” Notably, only Bono is trans masculine in the group, and while he is a trailblazer who came out during a much different time, his story is lesser known by the young people who would most benefit from his example. As a trans masculine person, I wish I had grown up with a role model like Elliot Page, and I am so happy for all the kids who get to live in a world where he can, as he so eloquently wrote, “love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.”

Fantastic Four was a troubled production. Of this there is little doubt with director Josh Trank exiting the project, and 20th Century Fox commissioning apparently extensive reshoots. The negative buzz and worse reviews these events generated resulted in the film flopping at the box office. Yet it’s the reports that came later of a toxic work environment, including with how Kate Mara was allegedly treated by Trank, that has most tarnished Fantastic Four’s reputation.
Mara recently opened up about the negative experience in question with Emmy Magazine (via Collider), citing Fantastic Four as one of the two worst experiences she’s had with directors.
“I had a horrible experience on Fantastic Four,” Mara said. “I’ve never talked about it before. I married one off my costars, so I don’t regret doing the movie at all. But do I wish I had responded differently to certain things?...

AMC’s upcoming animated drama “Pantheon” is filling out its main cast.
Paul Dano, Taylor Schilling, Aaron Eckhart and Rosemarie Dewitt have all been cast in the series, Variety has confirmed. It was picked up for two seasons back in March.
The one-hour show is based on a series of short stories by Ken Liu about Uploaded Intelligence, or human consciousness uploaded to the cloud. The first season will consist of eight episodes and focus on Maddie, a bullied teen who receives mysterious help from someone online.
