A Last Hope
ilklucg2343 March 2017
This is more like a 9.5 stars for me. It started out a bit sloppy, but it got better so fast and ended with a big bang.

Abby, Raven and Jackson work on creating Night Blood. Octavia warns Arcadia about the Ice Nation. Clarke tries to negotiate.

Honestly, I think this is one of my favorite episodes not just of this season, but of the show in general. I am very happy that the show finally seems to get it's feet back to the ground. If it continues to get better like this, or even just stays the same as it is now, season 4 could become my favorite season this far.

I really enjoyed the acting in this one. There were of course some of the new casting that still try to find their ground, but everyone did a good job. Especially the main cast, even more especially Eliza Taylor as Clarke. I really enjoyed her subtlety in this episode.

The story was really good in this one as well. Like I said, the beginning was not as great, a bit of sloppiness here and there, but it got so good. I really felt it this time, like a slow burn I felt the story to become more and more intense. I really appreciate that. A little thing still bothered me though. And that is that the relationship between Monty and Harper still makes me a bit uncomfortable. But that is entirely subjective.

And, what a big surprise, the biggest issue I had with this show this season so far was the camera. But, it didn't bother me at all this episode. I even dare to go as far and say that it was actually pretty good. Yes, I am indeed surprised.

Overall, one of the best episodes this far honestly. I hope they can stay on this level of quality and not go down again like they did last season. But I'm pretty hopeful and I'm really looking forward to see if they can top this episode in the finale.

Collaborate or die
tenshi_ippikiookami19 March 2017
Roan gets his army on the road, ready to take Arkadia. Clarke will try to convince him of the need to unite to survive. Raven and Abigail continue their research. And... will Octavia survive?

The episode centers on the oncoming clash between Roan and his people and Arkadia's population and it delivers a gripping and full of strength episode, with a great pace, amazing atmosphere, good acting all around, and a couple of plot twists that will keep the viewers gripped to their seats, so worried will they be with what may or may not happen. The episode does a great job in explaining why it is better to collaborate than compete, but the difficulties behind people joining forces for a better outcome for everyone.

"The Tinder Box" is still, though, a little bit all over the place. "The 100" is starting to show signs of the need to create the path for a clear and satisfying ending. And Raven's story-line is a little bit silly (even if the plot more or less explains why and how happens what happens).

However, these are minor problems. The best episode of the season.

A intense, powerful episode.

The story is so damn great here. Tons of development. Full of surprises and unpredictable situations. And the "things go wrong" thing in the 100 is always work. Now that the last hope is gone. It is interesting to see how will they manages to survive in the future.

This episode was amazing compared to other episodes. Octavia is getting better and that's awesome. Plus, Clarke is finally back to Wanheda Mode at least without killing people...

Warning: Spoilers
Well I have to say this was one hell of an episode, Like damn I was on my seat for the whole last 20 minutes of that episode. The start was a bit slow and sloppy however it picked up very drastically.

*Spoiler Ahead* When we see the stand off between Sky People and Ice Nation it keeps us on our seats the whole time, I was trying to figure out what was going to happen next but my outcomes was complete wrong with what happens. *Spoiler End*

I must say if you our debating carrying on watching the series watch up to here then decide as this episode really got me back on track with the series.

The Ending really got me back on board with the series and I can wait to see the next episode. This episode is very thrilling. I would give this episode a 9 however *SPOILER AHEAD* I cannot because of one thing, Octavia this girl who is what 18? can survive a huge F****** Drop and a Blast From a whole ship that had fuel in the room below and yet she can survive it when she is already in critical condition I still don't understand but it's another surprise that the producers are throwing at us. *SPOILER END* Other than that I'd Give this Episode an 8.5 so I will go with 8 as I feel 9 is too generous.

Just to clarify I have had some people say my rating are too low however I don't believe in a perfect 10 so 9 is like your 10.

Echo has a weakness for Bellamy since he saved her from Mt Weather
Neptune1652 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
4,08 4,10 4,11 (😭) and 4,13 are the best episodes of this season in my personal opinion. In defense of Ilian, the only time he ever had a contact with technology, it got his mother and brother killed. Alie forced him to do this. What he did was way over the line but I can get why he did that. He didn't want this to happen again. It's like Pike with the Grounders. All he knew from them was violence so he snapped. Echo is just a stupid. No comment on this girl, I hate her so damn freaking much. NEED to talk to Roan like week ago, but they talked it out, and that talk is why Arcadia is left unguarded(not enough soldiers, brought even Riley. They hate Clarke for doing stuff, but when they're in trouble, they go for Clarke to do the necessary act. So they are clean. This was the 50th episode of the season, I think the burning of arkadia was meant to be the dramatic moment for the anniversary. Riley nearly destroy things up for everyone(which is unacceptable), but he was a slave to the Ice Nation, so he going to have a problem with his abusers. Let's not pretend we wouldn't be as angry as him if that happened to any one of us. Polis is the key, only if they have true natblida Commander to keep order and to use all available info from the flame 😉.

Keep in mind as you try to understand Ilian's actions, he doesn't know about the radiation
Neptune1652 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Everyone missed this on this episode Raven floating was a distraction from a clue that will come in handy to know later when Abby and Jackson were talking. I think one of the best parts of the series is definitely that the lead is not perfect. Clarke doesn't make the best decision every time. But she is a smart and sensible character, has layers to her and definitely is ready to do for her friends and people. With O's fall they've sacrificed plausibility for "strong willed" i.e. Dumb, cause O could've just surrendered, now their only shelter is gone due to Acting Chancellor Clarke poor communication with her superior King Roan of Azgeda, Acting King of the Coalition, and due to taking everyone(including Riley)on a field mission and leaving the Ark unguarded, and all they're left with is the nightblood "solution", if they believe that nightblood doesn't burn, and as Roan said: I don't believe in miracles, but it seems that Skikru does. Listen back again to the conversation that Abby an the other doctor were saying when Raven was floating about night blood been used for convicts for long space missions becka worked for a company called eligus made night blood for em. The key is Raven I say to save em an make em all night bloods. This season gets intense from here on in. Remember the chip made him kill his mom dad and brother so Ilian being simple minded doesn't know the difference between tech and A. I.

"There's no way Octavia survived my blade .. or that fall."
brendanegtaylor26 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Yikes.

It's amazing the degree of self awareness these writers exhibit at times. Echo's dialogue in the title of my review highlights this perfectly. Cynicism aside, the writing team of The 100 can't seriously expect me to believe that Octavia survived that wound, much less the fall. I can't suspend my disbelief enough for this scene to work. After assassinating Bellamy's character in Season 3, I'm honestly tired of seeing him onscreen. The actions he undertook are quite frankly irredeemable and poorly justified. "War made me a murderer?" Seriously, Bellamy? Lmao, I just can't. The scene with Illian is ridiculous. Octavia honestly tries to reason with this crazed anti-technolgy zealot, for what reason, I'm unsure. Then Illian proceeds to save Octavia and Niylah because "no one needs to die," despite the fact he just set ablaze the habitation of hundreds of people without a single consideration made to the potential casualties of his actions.

Oh, and the ark doesn't have a sprinkler system ...

...

.... lmfao.

Sprinklers!
m_sarius24 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I thought the Arkadia ship had sprinklers. Where were they when the fire broke down? A big plot hole. This movie has potential as a story, but some of the decisions the writers make are just flabbergasting.

The episode is just bad
avamander20 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Season four so far was rather alright, but this episode, it's just awful. Starting from the fact that critical systems have no fire extinguishers (or fire suppression), tackling seems to be a forgotten art (just grab that gun or torch!) and people in general act seriously irrationally.
