Get the Band back Together
nogodnomasters3 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Merlin (Spence Moore II) fancies himself as a magician. Alas, he is as best mediocre on a good night. He grew up being friends with Robin (Raigan Harris) who is off to Julliard to be a dancer. Four year later, Merlin wants to get together with her only to discover she is with some Internet star who calls himself Blaze (Ryan Alexander Holmes). In despair of his failure he travels to Vegas to become a star working in Rita's (Colleen Camp) establishment. Through circumstances Mr. Big (Wesley Snipes) get the Chips back together, a group of male strippers and he wants Merlin to lead the group of has-bins.

Kevin Hart was in the film. Don't blink. There is no male nudity and only brief female nudity. The film just wasn't funny. They did a Blues Brother getting the band back together bit that would have worked better as a parody.

Guide" F-word. No sex. Brief side distant nudity.

This was not good!

Back on the Strip features one of my favorite actors in Weslie Snipes but even his role in this is far from saving it. This latest comedy failed to come up with a compelling story or provide tons of laughs. Instead what we get is something that is flat, forced, and should have never been made. It's a shame as well because Weslie Snipes was in this along with Tiffany Haddish. I only rememberd laughing a couple of times and really wanted to turn it off early but I powered through. I really wish Studios would do more oversight on what movies they are green lighting before releasing. Back on the Strip gets a low 3 stars out of 10 from me.

Funny at times, difficult to watch at others...
desmondlewissmith4 April 2024
There are so many things that could have gone well with this movie, and I believe they had the cast to pull it off.

Young boy falls for girl, he loves magic. Moves to Las Vegas and starts stripping... Girl falls for jerk... Good foundation.

The bad.

Tiffany Haddish was a wreck, her humor is crass and ineffective, so she goes for shock with super inappropriate language that doesn't fit and is just uncomfortable.

Wesley Snipes character is effeminate. Not sure why, but it didn't bide well with me.

The rest of the show was OK, but those two pieces wrecked the movie and made it more so a "gotta get through this", rather than a "I don't want this to end" type movie.

Spence Moore did a great job and was entertaining. Bill Bellamy was awesome. J. B> Smoove was funny as ever. Faizon Love was as funny as he ever was.

Kevin Hart had a small part, super insignificant and not worth mentioning.

Beyond bad so-called comedy with terrible tv standard direction & even worse writing
danieljfarthing29 November 2023
Why JB Smoove, Wesley Snipes & Kevin Hart (in cameo) agreed to be in dire so-called comedy "Back On The Strip" is baffling... but they must surely regret it. Smoove, Snipes, Faizon Love, Gary Owen & Bill Bellamy used to be a Vegas male stripper troupe, that reforms on discovering well-endowed young star Spence Moore II (the lead - sadly) who's wrapped in his own drama (the film's real story - narrated (sigh) by his mum Tiffany Haddish) over bff Raigan Harris & his dream to be a magician. The performances suck, Chris Spencer's dreadful direction (on his debut) is to terrible tv standard, and his co-writing (with Eric Daniel) is even worse. Beyond bad, it stinks - flush it.

Chris Spencer is a Nice Guy
Ask-Kirk-Lockhart21 January 2024
Merlin's quest for fame as a magician in Las Vegas takes an unexpected twist in this intriguing proposal. The idea of turning a weekend in Vegas into a movie venture, avoiding the typical Hangover narrative, suggests creativity. Envisioning a Black Full Monty with the talented kid from All American brings a unique angle. The stacked cast, coupled with director Chris Spencer's connections, hints at a promising project. Debuting at the Martha's Vineyard Film Festival in 2023 adds an exciting goal. In a comedy drought, this concept stands out-a refreshing and funny prospect to get us laughing again. 🎬😄

A good funny afroamerican romantic comedy
ccarriere-4304423 August 2023
This is not Magic Mike... that part of the story line is the pretext at this romantic Afroamerican comedy. The rhythm is good. No down time. Made my laugh out loud lots of times as much from the bad suggestive dance moves then from the flow of Afroamerican slang especially by women to describe sex, the male member or to insult one and other. Being a white single 60's French Canadian man... it seems to me that it was too much not to be stereotyping? But then again maybe not... As it was funny. And like it a good romantic comedy true love does blossom at the end... in a frenetic last scene. One scene toward the end seems to have needed more writing...

Hilarious comedy
tracydaniel23 January 2024
Fun feel good movie that with a stellar cast and just the right amount of heart. It's the perfect vehicle for these old school comedy legends and the script gives each an opportunity to showcase their comic talents. Wesley Snipes is the stand out as the ring leader of the crew and Spence Moore proves to be a true leading man. The Kevin Hart cameo is hysterical and I love everything Tiffany Haddish brought to the film. Perfect film for streaming if you want to have some big laughs. And the love story is sweet if you want a good date night flick. Didn't want it to end and would love to see a sequel one day. Definitely check it out!

Mildly Amusing
stevendbeard20 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I saw Back on the Strip, starring Spence Moore 2-The Wonder Years_tv, All American_tv; Wesley Snipes-The Expendables 3, the Blade movies; Tiffany Haddish-Haunted Mansion, Like a Boss and Raigan Harris-Grown_ish_tv, The Dead Girls Detective Agency_tv.

This movie is a low budget comedy-mildly amusing-about chasing your dreams. Spence plays a young man that wants to be a magician in Las Vegas. Tiffany plays his mother and Raigan is his girlfriend and there is a quick cameo by Kevin Hart. Even though Spence is not that good at magic, Tiffany encourages him to follow his dream and buys him a ticket to Las Vegas-she also just wants to get him out of her house for her own reasons. When Spence gets to Vegas, he runs into Wesley, who talks him into being a male stripper-Wesley used to lead a male stripper group called the Chocolate Chips-and Spence quickly becomes very good at it. There is also a side story about Raigan meeting and falling for another guy so Spence has to try and win her back and get back to his magic roots.

It's rated R for drug use, language and sexual content-no nudity-and has a running time of 1 hour & 57 minutes.

It's not one that I would buy on DVD but it would be alright to stream-my wife seemed to like it more than I did.

Wesley got old
iamjamalwhite25 April 2024
I don't know what the wife and I were expecting when we watch this movie but it was cute. It was a black comedy about a boy who wants to be a magician in vegas and who ends up being a stripper because he is well endowed. Wesley Snipes plays the old Matthew McConaughey position from Magic Mike in this one. It has Tiffany Addish in it and she is funny. Actually all of the strippers are comedians who are brought up on stage to try and dance. The movie isn't bad but it isn't good either. There are cringe moments where like when the cops try to arrest them all for being black Or wins of one white member of their group continually apologizes for being a white Doctor. Overall it's a fun movie but don't expect Too much.

Great Cast and Funny!!!
sebastianfoxworth22 March 2024
When I ask any film I ask myself one simple question, was I entertained? Yes I was. This has me laughing all the way through. The negative reviews are just people who are too serious in their film watching. It's a ridiculous comedy that's just meant to be stupid funny and it is.

The ensemble cast is on point with their roles. Gary Owen is one of my favorite comedians and though he plays his typical role in a black film, he still kills it. Wesley Snipes does who in this like he did in Dolemite's My Name. Tiffany Haddish mainly plays narrator telling the story of her son Merlin and his dream of becoming a Las Vegas magician and like all dreams, he gets hilariously sidetracked. Just watch and enjoy it for what it is, a silly comedy.
