Not obviously great but great.
pjdickinson-915968 September 2019
This episode went out of its way to look talky and confusingly intricate. A whole make your head spin storyline was introduced out of nowhere and two dislikeable characters exchanged glances with implications of god knows what for the saga. Then, without warning an extraordinary and wonderfully staged final scene happens which is absolutely stunning in every regard. Well done.

Good episode, but?!
abdallamesl18 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Just finished episode 4 from series 5 of Peaky Blinders, and yes it was good; but where's the show going?

A lot of things don't make sense, i mean why's that change in Tommy's character, we all know Tommy from season one, a powerful, smart, badass business man but come on, narcissist? Never. I just don't like it when he says "Everything is mine" or "Nobody listens to me!", it doesn't fit him at all. Add to that, he thinks Michael wants his crown, and that he's the "Black Cat", like what? I'm wondering if Tommy is a 12 years old boy?! He's just mature enough for that.

From Tommy to Arthur, and here's the disaster. So now he's the stupid one? Ok Arthur has his moments, and it just make the show funny and i used to like it. But now? Arthur's character is just awful, and his lines, actions, and looks just make me sick enough, i was hoping for a better character development.

Polly is Polly. All the love for the great actress Helen McCrory, you just love to watch Polly Gray, one hell of a woman, wise, emotional, badass and funny. She's a typical Peaky Blinder, nothing more to say.

And now to my favorite character this season, Mr. Mosley played by the great Sam Claflin. "Mr. Shelby you've come to my attention", with that evil smile. I just love Mr. Mosley's Strategy, he knows Tommy's weakness very well, which is the family. He's well played politician, but what are his plans? Mr. Mosley is a Fascist, and here's the point, he believes in the dictatorial power to rule, unlike Tommy who believes in Socialism, and here's the true conflict, that's from the few things that i like about this season. If you noticed, Mosley's startegy is the mind games, trying to get Thomas into his philosophy "Fascism", and in this episode my point was proved, Mosley to Thomas "Two men for whom forbidding is forbidden", in other words, aren't we the same Mr. Shelby? But are they?

What about the Billy boys? Is Gin the black cat? The Chinese? Mr. Gold? And where's Ada in all of this?! Only two more episodes, and a lot of questions, you just feel it's not enough. Hope things will change the next episode, and get to the level of season 3 and 4.

I absolutely love it so far

Warning: Spoilers
What can i say this episode is amazing and overall this season so far has been nothing but absolutely perfect , the ending made my heart beat so fast also it gave me a flashback from the finale of season 4 when Arthur almost got killed by the Italians the music is great the ending was so good , Cillian Murphy if i describe him as super underrated and talented in every review it's still won't be enough my god this episode he was so amazing his scene with Ada and how we finally got to see him talk about his dark stuff he is goin through which was really good and his acting in it was also super nice i absolutely loved that scene, and also i honestly think that Micheal's wife is gonna totally screw the Peaky Blinders with the looks in the last scene that she gave , anyway i really love the cinematography that has been going so far and i can't wait for the next episode.

Everything I felt the last episode was missing and more
maxglen8 September 2019
This episode is wonderfully paced, it builds up the tension in a subtle way and lets you think you know what's going to happen by the end but the chances are you don't. The acting was fantastic, the script was tight, smart and realistic. The music was much more subtly used this week and the episode feels much more unnerving and somewhat dreamlike for it. I've used the word twice now and I think that's because it's the word that best describes this episode, subtle. If episodes 5 and 6 follow suit this season will cement itself as one of the best seasons of the show.

One of my favourite episodes in the entire series! People might think it doesn't fit in with the other episodes but personally i think thats necesary for this type of show... it needs a little variety.

The end makes the episode very good
delphinegobert8 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The ballet scene was amazing. Class yet violent and not necessarly physically violent. So much shades and the annoying Linda is gone.

Great dialogue overall but I can't help but wish more scenes with Mosley. Also, the Finn scene could have been more "Peaky Blinders" worthy aka more violent. He is a Shelby why don't you use it ?

Second little complaint is about the Grace flashbacks. Becoming too redundant.

3 rd : I think the proposal goes against the character of Aberama. His group was introduced as 'savages" yet he is accepting "love must defeat revenge". OR Aberama is playing Tom. Can't wait to find out.

Action lovers will find the episode boring !!

Bravo
MrLuthor8915 May 2020
Rarely do I ever feel the need to actively review a single episode of a series but I think this episode is one of those special occasions where every element came together beautifully. Masterfully crafted, brilliantly acted, gorgeous lightning and photography. In the final moments of the episode the way all of the stories and emotions intertwine for one massive crescendo is the kind of material usually fit of an entire series finale let alone the middle episode of a single season. Bravo!

10 out of 10 for the first and last scenes alone
victoriajayne-3328030 June 2020
Magnificent episode ..."that's politics ,Arthur " Tommy is still the cats pjs for cool whereas the rest of the family spin in his orbit creating crisis after crisis esp Finn who could do with a good clip around the ear to bring him into place ...and pretty sad drug trafficking was a big deal in 1929 as in 2020 and right wing nut jobs ...nothing changes about major crime ...Polly still is a legend even with her designer shoes covered in muck ....fabulous

That ending though
Calicodreamin2 December 2021
A decent enough episode, but that ending was amazing, the cinematography and music all came together to make an interesting scene. Storyline is pulled in multiple directions muddling the plot.

What is season 5?!
amiraliyou13 September 2019
OMG. This is the best season. Even better than season 4. Every episode is exiting than the previous one. This episode (4) was great. Full of exiting and important events. By the way, Arthur is Rocking in this season! I really love him. Sit down and watch and don't care about those reviews which are against it. By order of the Peaky Fu*king Blinders 😜😏

The breathtaking sequence at the end of this episode shows how beautiful and thematic this show, and this season especially has been.
madelynmcfly-2027421 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The breathtaking sequence at the end of this episode shows how beautiful and thematic this show, and this season especially has been. Tommy and his own struggles this season have been so compelling to watch, especially as his grief for Grace pops back up. Arthur has continuously been knocked down this season, and it's emotional to watch. Ada and Finn are only getting better as the show goes on, and the engagement between Aberama and Polly is very romantic... Lizzie continues to be a strong character, and I was very surprised by Linda in this episode. I'm not the biggest fan of Jimmy McCaveran as a villain, Brilliant Chang seemed interesting enough... but Mosley is much more intimidating. Micheal, Isiah and the rest were good, and the style of this show is great... Most definitely, however, was the amazing ballet scene, with the music and themes being represented in this show... A lovely episode.

Hmmmm.........a 9 seems legit.
Adam-092659 September 2019
I have edited my post.

After watching the entire series again i can say that i understand it more and the negatives i said before i sort of take back. As a few critic opinions remain i can say that it's deffinetely not a 10/10, too many off points with the main plot. A solid 9/10 for me, the episode was decent: the acting, cinematography and sountracks and the whole ending scene was a thing of beauty.

Don't expect too much, and this episode will fill your interests.

Ending of episode MASTERPIECE
Begovil10 December 2020
I never have the urge to write a review for the positive reasons (it's normally when I'm disappointed when I do it haha) but it just wouldn't be fair if at least I didn't come here to acknowledge all that talent that has put this masterpiece together... Well done to all of you (soundtrack included), and thanks for creating such a wonderful episode! Bliss

The last 5-10 minutes of this episode is some of the best TV/film that I've seen. So well edited and shot
Neptune16530 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The real-life Billy Boys were lead by a man named Billy Fullerton, hence their name. I'm not entirely sure way the had to invent a new character instead of just going with a slightly fictionalized version of the real guy, like the did with the other historical figures of the show but there you go. I think you maybe need to be relatively clued up on what was going on in Britain at time in order to fully understand and appreciate the plot of this season, otherwise you might be a bit confused. What shakes me about Mosley is that he is an antagonist that just TALKS no need for physical violence. I was really missing John this season man. They killed him off too early.

More Mosley than Small Heath
xmasdaybaby196616 October 2019
Very slow moving episode where very little seemed to happen. If it wasn't for the glimpse of a couple of stocking tops then I would have fallen asleep like Arthur at the ballet. The closing scene lures you into watching the next installment however. Swan Lake and dead birds are featured in this lame duck of an episode.

This is not Peeky Blinders any more...
S_h_r_y_c_e9 September 2019
What is wrong with the series, I don't recognize the characters any more... and what's with all the boastful cinematography going on all the time... it's like the series have become a vehicle to shoot some lovely camera shots only it's forgotten to tell a good story. It's been going on the whole time this season, but this episode I just gotta respond to it. It's annoying as hell and it distracts from whatever is left to tell.. There are a few moments of it's old sparkle every now and then but they're rare. Also I don't buy into the whole Tommy for MP story line, it's just too far fetched to be credible. I wished they'd just sticked to the local settings and kept it small. This has just become too over the top. Like someone else commented, this is style over substance and in a very bad way.

So much to explore now that Tommy is an MP which isn't happening. Why is he consorting withbMoseley? Too many stylish shots, big gestures and no explanation

Linda is not that stupid and Arthur should be gone
lorenzot-2839224 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The Linda we know would have found a more clever way to kill Arthur, who has gone too far in his behavior, he's crazy. This season overall shows Tommy as an arrogant man, he thinks he's God. How much I wish someone would kill him. I don't cheer on him and don't get how someone can
