Elizabeth carries out a heist and Phillip faces up to financial issues.
This is a very downbeat episode but, as ever, it is extremely well made.
The story continues both the plot and themes presented in the last few episodes. I won't go into specifics not to spoil, but most scenes show characters caught in perpetual failure.
There is one scene involving a recurring character that does an excellent job of putting the personal goals and pursuits in life into perspective. When we are near the end of our lives and look back on what we spent our time doing, will we have regrets?
Another scene involving that same character is quite harrowing and memorable.
At this point my girlfriend and I are quite intrigued to know what will be the fate of the main characters and how the overarching narrative of the show will conclude. In fact we were comparing theories with each other, but are quite happy that nothing is particularly obvious.
The first four episodes of this final series have done an excellent job of slowly developing tension between Phillip and Elizabeth to the point where we can feel there might be something explosive coming soon.
All production values are as strong as ever and performances by the main stars are superb.
