A little while ago I reviewed the first season of Prank Encounters that was hosted by the enchanting Gaten Mazzerato. I hadn’t heard anything about the show since, so I assumed that there would be no second season but to my surprise, Netflix released another season! This is a show that is somewhat similar to the iconic prank show Prank Patrol which was a piece of nostalgia that people my age still reference the catchphrase “You’ve been pranked by the Prank Patrol” even today. However Prank Encounters is a much more intense show, that works – mostly – due to the innocent and charming nature of Gaten; who hosts the show and calls down the victims at the end of the show. He has a smile that can’t help but make you feel at ease and so was the perfect choice to host this show!

YouTube creator Michael Stevens, whose science and philosophy-centric VSauce channel counts 14.8 million subscribers and 1.6 billion views, launched a YouTube Premium series called Mind Field in Jan. 2017 to examine the lesser understood questions about human behavior via experiments conducted upon himself as well as celebrity guests.
Now, three seasons later and ahead of Halloween, Stevens is set to release a special episode of Mind Field that will explore the things that elicit fear and panic in human beings -- be it heights, needles, sharks, and more. Stevens -- in conversation with experts, and by analyzing horror film tropes as well as conducting scientific demos -- will also seek to uncover why fear is such an important part of being human, and why some people even enjoy the feeling.
The series is part of YouTube’s greater focus on educational originals, following the establishment of its YouTube Learning initiative last year. YouTube has previously said that music,...

YouTube has tapped its head of unscripted, Ben Relles, for the newly created role of head of innovation, the company announced Tuesday.
Effective immediately, Relles will have creative oversight of the YouTube Originals slate of interactive programming and live specials. He will continue to report to YouTube’s global head of original content, Susanne Daniels.
“We now have amazing new tools and opportunities to create and tell multilayered and interactive stories,” Daniels said in a statement. “Ben has an intuitive and experienced understanding of how the platform can enhance content making him the perfect choice to develop this exciting new division.”
Relles’ replacement in his previous role has not yet been announced.

YouTube plans to take its original programming into a new dimension — with a new slate of content geared around interactive content and live specials.
The new initiative will be headed by Ben Relles, who previously was head of unscripted for YouTube Originals, a position he held since June 2015. Relles has been named to the newly created role of head of innovation for YouTube Originals, continuing to report into Susanne Daniels, global head of original content.
In the new role, Relles is tasked with overseeing a slate of interactive programming and live specials, designed to boost engagement with viewers and showcasing ways they can interact and participate with content. Relles’ team also will focus on integrating interactive features across the full range of scripted and unscripted YouTube Originals.

YouTube has concluded that its investments in original programming should have a home on the free, ad-supported side — not just tucked behind a paywall.
In a shift in strategy, the Google-owned video platform said that starting next year it will move to make all of its new original programming available for free for anyone to watch. With the change, YouTube is moving toward more mainstream celebrity-driven and creator-based reality fare, while it will continue to greenlight scripted productions.
Until now, YouTube Originals have mainly been available on its YouTube Premium subscription service, although YouTube also has expanded the shows and movies it makes available on an ad-supported basis.
“As we look to 2019, we will continue to invest in scripted programming and shift to make our YouTube Originals ad supported to meet the growing demand of a more global fanbase,” a YouTube rep said in a statement. “This next phase...

While YouTube doesn’t fully break out viewership for its Premium shows, it does typically provide a viewcount for pilot episodes. And one of the service’s biggest hits to date, Cobra Kai, has just zoomed past an impressive milestone.
The first episode of the Karate Kid sequel series, titled Ace Degenerate, has amassed upwards of 50 million views since its posting on May 2, the team behind Cobra Kai touted today on Twitter with the hashtag #NoMercy. The milestone was achieved as the second season of Cobra Kai continues to take shape, with teen star Peyton List and the actor Paul Walter Hauser (of Kingdom fame) cast as recurring characters.
Cobra Kai's 50 million-figure dwarfs comparable viewcounts of the first episodes of other popular YouTube Premium shows, including the long-running Foursome, whose first episode has clocked 18 million views to date; VSauce’s Mind Field (19 million views); Joey Graceffa’s Escape The Night...

When YouTube’s Susanne Daniels first heard the pitch for “Cobra Kai,” she wasn’t thinking “game changer” for YouTube Red, the company’s subscription programming service. “Maybe I should have been,” she said. “But I was just thinking, ‘amazing, incredible pitch.’ The stars don’t always align in a pitch and you don’t get to check off all the boxes when you hear a pitch. But in this pitch, you just did. They just came in with everything that you could want.”
But “Cobra Kai” could indeed be the breakthrough for YouTube Red in what has already been a transformative year for the platform. YouTube Red launched in October 2015 as an ad-free service to watch YouTube videos, as well as a home for exclusive, premium content starring many of YouTube’s top creators and personalities, like Lily Singh, MatPat, DanTDM and PewDiePie (whom the company later distanced itself...

Michael Stevens' return to YouTube Red will consist of dramatic science experiments. The man behind the Vsauce YouTube channel has shared a trailer for the second season of Mind Field, which will premiere on YouTube's $9.99-per-month subscription platform on December 6.
In Mind Field, Stevens studies fields like neuroscience and psychology by using himself as a "lab rat." According to a press release, the show's second season will see Stevens explore "mind control, the power of suggestion, the effects of technology on the brain’s hippocampus and spatial memory," among other topics.
The recently-released trailer details the specific methods Stevens will employ in order to conduct these experiments. In one particularly psychedelic episode, for example, the Vsauce host will head down to South America, where he will experience the mind-altering effects of a native plant. In another, he'll design what appears to be a real-life version of the trolley problem.
