A decade into her solo career, Beyoncé effectively evaded irrelevancy by wresting control of her own narrative. After her 2011 album 4 failed to produce a Top 10 hit—to date, her only album to do so—the singer began dropping albums without any pre-release promotion, sidestepping chart expectations and reimagining the traditional pop album release strategy. That approach, thankfully, has been accompanied by some of Beyoncé’s most creative, political, and inspired work to date. Her 2016 visual album Lemonade drew on her personal experiences as a Black woman to comment on feminism and racism in the Me Too and Black Lives Matter era, while its follow-up, 2022’s Renaissance, kept the focus squarely on the music, inspired by and dedicated...

Jaleel White has been named as host of The Flip Side, a brand-new syndicated game show from CBS that is scheduled to debut this fall. In the show, two teams of players attempt to determine the sentiments of two distinct groups regarding the same issue. Teams make their selections from multiple-choice answers, and the correct choice secures the pot. “I have had fun being a celebrity contestant on numerous game shows, but I’ve always really wanted to be the host, giving people money and making their day,” White said in a statement. “When I first heard this concept, I immediately wanted to be the ringleader of this entertaining, funny game show where the only requirement is being in tune with human nature.” Besides his dual role in Family Matters as Steve Urkel and Stefan Urquelle, White’s recent projects encompass Netflix‘s Hustle, CBS’ Me, Myself and I, and Apple TV+‘s The Afterparty.

With Saturday marking the first official day of Autumn, Las Vegas’ Life is Beautiful is the last hurrah of the summer festival season.
Life Is Beautiful is unique in that it doesn’t take place in a large field or a city park, but smack dab in the middle of Vegas’ eclectic downtown, turning parking lots into disco rooms, hotels into art exhibits, and swaths of streets into stage areas. It’s a hot summer day, the car AC is on turbo and the radio is blasting Miguel’s “Sure Thing.” My 8-year-old nephew is singing along happily — until I tell him the song is older than he is.
He’s extremely puzzled. But it’s true.
“Sure Thing” was released in 2010 and was named Billboard’s No. 1 R&b/hip-hop song of 2011. But TikTok resurrected the melodic track this year, and the platform thrust it to higher heights on the pop charts, as streaming platforms added it to current playlists and radio stations began replaying the song 13 years after its release.
Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” was released in 2019, but the addictive bop became a favorite on her ultra-popular Eras Tour, and now it’s in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. Sia, thanks to TikTok, relaunched a platinum hit with “Unstoppable” late last year, though it was released...

The 5 Seconds of Summer Show, the tenth anniversary celebration that the pop-rock band hosted at the close of 2021, was part career-spanning concert film and part Saturday Night Live skit poking fun at their decade-long evolution. It featured a recreation of the video for one of their earliest releases — 2012’s “Gotta Get Out” — alongside their biggest hits, like “Youngblood” and “She Looks So Perfect,” and a funeral for their faded black skinny jeans. But the one thing that has never changed about 5Sos is their commitment to delivering an unrelenting live show.

David Jude Jolicoeur, who passed away on Sunday, Feb. 12 at the age of 54, helped revolutionize hip-hop and change the course of popular music. It’s why he’s being mourned so widely in the rap community today, and far beyond it as well. As one-third of De La Soul, alongside Kelvin “Posdnous” Mercer and DJ Vincent “Maseo” Mason, the Haitian American musician and producer who adopted names like “Jude,” “Trugoy the Dove,” “Plug 2,” and, finally, just “Dave” expanded the art form in ways not seen before or since. When producer Scott Storch spent a week in a South Beach studio with Beyoncé in 2002, he had never met her before, despite working on Destiny’s Child tracks. The 2018 edition of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve turned into a rain-soaked spectacle for performers Christina Aguilera, New Kids on the Block, Dan + Shay and Bastille, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the artists, waterlogged hosts Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy, or the crowd of over 1 million revelers who crammed into New York’s Times Square for hours on Monday.

Zayn Malik is slowly but surely teasing his upcoming second album, and the latest song he revealed is a Beyoncé cover. The former One Directioner chose "Me, Myself and I," and he released the whole track for his fans to hear. This is undoubtedly one of the most iconic Beyoncé songs, and no one can do it the same level of justice, but Malik's is . . . pretty great.
"I'm trying to keep it as mysterious as possible, but there's a plan with the roll out," Malik said in an interview about his album in May. "It's going to be different than anything anyone has done before." So far, the singer has only released the singles "Let Me," "Entertainer," and now this cover. Listen to his take on Beyoncé's song from 2003's Dangerously in Love and see what you think.

For yet another week on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart the top five are frozen in place. Drake holds onto the top spot for the fourth week in a row with “God’s Plan,” followed by Ed Sheeran‘s “Perfect” at number-two, Bruno Mars and Cardi B‘s “Finesse” at number-three, Camila Cabello and Young Thug‘s “Havana” at number-four and Post Malone and 21 Savage‘s “Rockstar” at number-five. And a new music video for “God’s Plan” (watch below) could further strengthen its hold on number-one next week too.
But that’s not the only good news for Drake in the top-10. The Canadian rapper also debuts a second song on the chart this week, bowing at number-six as a featured artist on “Look Alive” by BlocBoy Jb. It’s the first ever top-10 for BlocBoy, but it’s the 23rd for Drake.

Updated: CBS has made back order decisions on two of its three remaining new fall series, giving a full-season pickup to drama S.W.A.T. after three airings and ordering three more episodes of Mark Feuerstein’s multi-camera comedy series 9Jkl.
Meanwhile, there is no decision yet on the fate of freshman drama Wisdom of the Crowd, which is in its eighth week on the air. The decision is being complicated by an investigation CBS recently launched into sexual harassment allegations against star Jeremy Piven. The call should come soon as Wisdom Of the Crowd is slated to wrap production on its 13-episode original order in mid-December. I hear the series had received an order for three additional scripts, so the writers room is open.

Monday nights are about to look a bit different on CBS, as “Me, Myself & I” heads to the bench. The network announced Wednesday that its Matt LeBlanc comedy, “Man With a Plan,” will return for Season 2 on Monday, Nov. 13, at 8:30 p.m.
As of Nov. 6, CBS is sliding first-year comedy “9JKL” from 8:30 to 9:30 on Mondays. Fellow freshman show “Me, Myself & I,” the previous inhabitant of the 9:30 slot, has been pulled from the schedule, with a return date yet to be announced for the Bobby Moynihan series.

If it ain’t broke… CBS’ scheduling team did very little work in the past few weeks, keeping the last season’s lineup largely intact.
In the fall, CBS is introducing three new comedies, Young Sheldon; 9Jkl; and Me, Myself & I; and three new dramas S.W.A.T., Seal Team and Wisdom of the Crowd.
As expected, Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon will be paired with the mothership series on Thursday with a special premiere behind the season opener of Big Bang on Monday.
Left on the bench for midseason with 13-episode orders were last-minute renewals Code Black and Elementary, along with new comedy By the Book and new drama Instinct.
Here is CBS’ fall schedule, with and post-Thursday Night Football, followed by descriptions of the network’s new series:

CBS has made the bulk new series orders, picking up comedies 9Jkl, starring Mark Feuerstein, and Dan Kopelman’s Me, Myself & I — both from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment — and dramas Instinct, starring Alan Cumming; Seal Team, starring David Boreanaz; S.W.A.T., starring Shemar Moore from Shawn Ryan and Justin Lin; and Wisdom Of the Crowd, toplined by Jeremy Piven.
The semi-autobiographical Feuerstein-Dana Klein comedy 9Jkl marks the first series under Kaplan’s joint venture with CBS launched in February.
The multi-camera 9Jkl and single-camera Me, Myself & I join the previously ordered The Big Bang Theory prequel series Young Sheldon, which will launch behind the mothership series in the fall. With three new comedy series and four dramas and all hot pilots picked up, CBS may be done with orders. There is talk about a possible midseason play for journalism drama The Get, though that may be a long shot.
