HBO Max is set to enter into its second month of existence. And you know what that means: it’s Christmas in July!
HBO Max’s list of new releases for July 2020 is highlighted by one prominent Christmas movie: last year’s Emilia Clarke-starring Last Christmas. But the real cause for Christmas in July is all the exciting animated DC content coming our way on the first of the month. July 1 sees the arrival of just about every animated Batman project ever created. July 1 also features the arrival of just about every Justice League animated series ever created as well.
If that weren’t enough, July 1 is also when every live-action Superman movie (save for Man of Steel) makes it streaming debut. July is starting to look like a month where HBO Max establishes its real potential and geek culture bonafides…despite an at-times difficult rollout.

When HBO Max launched last month, DC fans hoped it would be the premiere place to go to watch all their favorite DC content. While the streaming service did have an impressive array of films and TV shows available on launch, there were a lot of notable missing titles, too, due to pre-existing licenses getting in the way. As time goes on, though, more DC properties will end up on the site. Case in point: this July will see a whole heap of superhero content go up on HBO Max.
Below you can find the full list of every movie and TV series coming to HBO Now, Go and Max next month, broken down by day of release. It includes an enormous amount of DC animated movies, mostly featuring Batman, the Justice League and Green Lantern. All of the Christopher Reeve Superman films will be up on HBO Max as of July,...

Inspired by the the one-shot Elseworlds tale by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola, Batman: Gotham By Gaslight puts Batman against the real world serial killer, Jack the Ripper. Take a look at the trailer below as well as additional information about the upcoming DC and Warner Bros. Animation film.
Batman: Gotham By Gaslight takes place at the turn of the century as America’s continued industrial revolution is to be showcased at a World’s Fair hosted by Gotham City. But while the world prepares to witness the glittery glory of Gotham’s technological advances, there is a killer loose in the city’s darkest shadows. Preying on the city’s women, this killer is as precise as he is cruel. As Police Commissioner James Gordon tries to calm the fears of Gotham’s citizens regarding the butcher called Jack the Ripper, the masked vigilante Batman enacts his own detective...

Each year, the fine folks at Warner Bros. Animation serve up a handful of films based on DC properties and, more often than not, they knock it out of the park. Not only that, but a significant portion of the fanbase argues that they’re superior to what’s offered in the live action realm. And, to be completely honest, I have to concede in most cases.
Having said that, the trend looks to continue in 2018 with Batman: Gotham by Gaslight leading the charge. First revealed to us via a sneak peek included on the Batman and Harley Quinn Blu-ray release, it boasts a Dark Knight unlike anything we’ve seen outside of the comic books.
For those unfamiliar, Gotham by Gaslight was originally published in 1989 and ended up starting the “Elseworlds” line of books. Written by Brian Augustyn and drawn by Mike Mignola, it followed the exploits of a Batman residing in the 1800’s,...

DC’s Elseworlds series were some of my favorite comics as a kid. Why would I want to get wrapped up in the stodgy, never-ending plots of Death and Return of Superman or Knightfall when I could enjoy Batman becoming a vampire in Batman & Dracula: Red Rain, a Communist Superman in Red Son or the weird alt-dc Universe of Jla: The Nail?
The originator of this label was Brian Augustin and Mike Mignola’s excellent Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, which transposes Bruce Wayne/Batman to the late 19th century and has him tangle with Jack the Ripper (and was subsequently ranked as the 11th greatest Batman graphic novel of all-time by IGN). Clearly, someone at DC agrees with me, because 2018 will see the arrival of an animated adaptation of the story and, from the looks of the trailer above, it’s going to be awesome.

This week brought with it the news that DC are adding yet another movie onto their slate – Joe Manganiello will be starring as Slade Wilson in a Deathstroke solo film from director Gareth Evans. This is no doubt encouraging to hear for fans of the popular supervillain, as the character’s future in the Dceu had been in doubt for the past few months. It’s even better news for Manganiello, though, and it looks like the actor can’t wait to don the character’s orange/black helmet in his own film.
In the wake of the solo movie’s announcement, he took to Twitter to share a very cryptic tease. Without a caption, the Magic Mike star simply posted a close-up snap of the assassin’s helmet, which has seemingly sustained a lot of damage around the eye.

When the news of Sean Gordon Murphy’s Batman: White Knight dropped, it sounded like an intriguing premise. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see the Joker righting his wrongs for a limited series? Well, I don’t think it’s that simple, because I have a sneaky suspicion that Murphy’s pulling the ultimate red herring and this will go down as the Joker’s biggest scheme yet.
Batman: White Knight #1 opens up with the Batmobile roaring into Arkham Asylum. However, it isn’t the Bat that steps out of the car, but Jack Napier, Aka the Joker. The guards lead him to the cells, where the Dark Knight is chained and locked away. Jack looks at him and says, “Batman. I need your help.”

As much as Harley Quinn is still having a moment off the back of Suicide Squad, the animated feature Batman and Harley Quinn is mostly a wasted opportunity.
The story includes some great elements that are delivered exceptionally well, but the positives are fighting an uphill battle against fart jokes and other inanities. How the combination came together is anyone’s guess, but it renders the whole a frustrating mix that can’t get out of its own way.
Poison Ivy and Jason Woodrue (The Floronic Man) have a scheme to save the world from the pollution and general pillaging of humans by mutating everyone into plant hybrids. The theory being that people will then have a more vested interest in keeping the world safe. It isn’t a scheme that makes a lot of sense, but crazy people and druid creatures from other dimensions make their own brand of sense.

Well, you can file this one under “things we never saw coming.” To everyone’s surprise, Warner Bros. have decided which film they’ll fill the June 1, 2018 slot with. Not only have they chosen it to be Teen Titans Go!, but the studio has also pushed it back ever so slightly to July 27, 2018.
Right now, plot details remain under wraps, but it’s expected that the feature film be a larger scale continuation of the adventures seen on the Cartoon Network animated series of the same name. As a successor of the original Teen Titans show, the newer incarnation is much more light-hearted, as its 11-minute episodes focus more on whimsy, song and other things that have proven to be highly divisive amongst DC fans. Still, it’s found a rather devoted viewing audience, especially with the younger crowd. Thus, we fully anticipate that Robin, Starfire, Beast Boy, Cyborg and...

Warner Animation’s just-released Batman and Harley Quinn is an interesting project from the standpoint of it being a more mature sequel to the Batman: The Animated Series while still fitting into the now cohesive DC Animated Universe. It has the look and feel of the classic series while the content and themes are vastly different in keeping with Harley’s prominence in all-things DC these days along with upping the stakes in a longer production.
That said, the production is very entertaining and a welcome 30th film in the line of animated projects (the DC Universe: 10th Anniversary Collection is expected in November).
It’s a lot of fun to have Bruce Timm, Harley’s co-creator back in action as a co-scriptwriter. Sam Liu is also back to direct so we have a lot of veteran talent to bring tremendous affection to the project and it shows in every detail.

Recently, Kevin Conroy – the man who’s played Batman more than any other actor – gave his thoughts on the various live-action interpretations of the Dark Knight over the years. It turns out that he’d like to qualify that statement, though.
While talking with HeyUGuys, Conroy elaborated on his feelings towards the other actors who’ve suited up as the Caped Crusader. He explained that he likes all of them, with each one succeeding at either playing the Bruce Wayne or Batman persona.

Last month, we found out that Batman: Gotham by Gaslight would be the latest comic book to be turned into a DC universe animated movie. Now, we have our first look at the film courtesy of this eight-minute sneak peak that’s arrived online, after being featured on the Batman And Harley Quinn DVD/Blu-ray.
Written by Brian Augustyn with art by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, 1989’s Gotham By Gaslight is often credited as kickstarting the DC Elseworlds imprint, which produced out-of-continuity stories that gave familiar characters a fresh twist. Gaslight moves the Batman mythos to Victorian times and sees a steampunk-themed version of the Dark Knight hunt down Jack the Ripper, who’s travelled from London to Gotham.
The sneak peak gives us a glimpse at various snippets of the movie, and thankfully it looks to be one of the more visually-impressive DC animated efforts we’ve seen so far.

Well, the highly anticipated Batman and Harley Quinn animated film has finally arrived and, while I shouldn’t be surprised that it’s already stirring up controversy, I am. I’m a big fan of Batman. Always have been. Just this past weekend my wonderful Great Aunt Margaret reminded me that I proudly wore a bat-cape as a young boy. Don’t worry, I think I outgrew that by the time I was 22. These days, I let my Batman fan-ness show through with things like my Bat-article in this year’s Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, which focuses on the top Legend of the Dark Knight Batman stories. Jim Steranko provided a gorgeous Batman cover, so it’s a great honor.
But as my interest in comics has broadened, the focus on Batman, per se, has been pushed aside. There are plenty of fans to take my place. Batman attracts a lot of fans. It’s fine by me if it’s time for other fans to step up to the forefront. And it’s just as well. So...

Originally voice by Days of Our Lives’ Arleen Sorkin, she was created by series writers Bruce Timm and Paul Dini as an object of amusement for the Joker. A squeaking sufferer of “Histrionic Personality Disorder”, she has gone from kooky sidekick to become the star of the New 52’s most original – and most insane – new series.
It’s immediately apparent that Batman and Harley Quinn, the new standalone feature from Warner Bros. Lately, there’s been a lot of buzz surrounding Batman and Harley Quinn, and understandably so. Aside from being the next DC animated film to arrive in what’s already been a solid year for the line, it unites two of the most popular characters in comics right now under the watch of the Clown Princess of Crime’s co-creator, Bruce Timm. Suffice it to say, when one of the minds behind Batman: The Animated Series is attached to a project, it’s going to instil some consumer confidence.

One of my favorite things about my childhood was watching Batman: The Animated Series and later The Adventures of Batman and Robin. The series ran from 1992 to 1995 developed by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski and produced by Warner Bros. Animation. This easily may be the best animated adaptation of any super hero. For many fans out there even with Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck portraying the Dark Knight on the big screen, still consider Kevin Conroy as their caped crusader. Not to mention the iconic voice of Batman's greatest adversary, The Joker by Mark Hamill. To this day their voices are found in many animated films and video games alike. Batman: The Animated Series without a doubt helped grow the popularity of Batman. There is even an amazing podcast hosted by Dr. Andrea Letamendi and Brian Ward that is dedicated to...

To save humanity, Batman and Nightwing are forced to enlist Harley Quinn to catch Poison Ivy, Harley’s Bff and frequent partner-in-crime. But Batman’s patience is put to the test by the unpredictable and untrustworthy Harley during the twists and turns the reluctant companions face during their bumpy road trip. The result is a thrill ride of action, adventure and comedy no Batman fan has seen before.
The world premiere of Batman and Harley Quinn will include a post-screening panel discussion among available members of the core cast and filmmaking team. The latest DC animated film features a stellar voice cast led by Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series) reprising his role as the Dark Knight, alongside Melissa Rauch (The Big Bang Theory) making her debut as the irrepressible Harley Quinn. Loren Lester, the voice of Robin in Batman: The Animated Series, returns as Nightwing. Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) and Kevin Michael Richardson (The Cleveland Show) provide the voices of the villainous duo Poison Ivy & Jason Woodrue, respectively.
Fathom Events will follow that premier with their own one-night cinema event for the latest DC Universe Original Movie, Batman and Harley Quinn, on August 14, one night prior to the Digital release and 15 days in advance of its arrival on Blu-ray™ and DVD. In addition to seeing the film, audiences at the one-night screening will be the first to experience an exclusive featurette spotlighting the film’s star character, Harley Quinn.
“Fans of DC Universe Original Movies are a devoted legion, and never was that so evident than with the enthusiastic embracing of our Batman: The Killing Joke Fathom Events presentation,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Vice President, Family and Animation Marketing. “Audiences nationwide turned the screenings into true interactive experiences, and we believe Batman and Harley Quinn will inspire a similar night of celebration.”
The film boasts a stellar voice cast topped by The Big Bang Theory star Melissa Rauch in her first turn as the irrepressible Harley Quinn. The fan favorite voices of Batman: The Animated Series – Kevin Conroy as Batman, Loren Lester as Nightwing – take the protagonist leads, while Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) and Kevin Michael Richardson (The Cleveland Show) provide the voices of the villainous duo of Poison Ivy & Jason Woodrue, respectively.
“Seeing Batman and Harley Quinn on the big screen and among fellow fans is truly the best way to experience it,” Fathom Events VP of Studio Relations Tom Lucas said. “There’s only one opportunity to do this and it’s on August 14. On that night, we’re expecting audiences to pack theater auditoriums just like they did for Batman: The Killing Joke.”
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment, Batman and Harley Quinn is directed by Sam Liu (Batman: The Killing Joke) from an original story by Bruce Timm (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns) with a teleplay written by Timm & Jim Krieg (Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox). Co-Producer is Alan Burnett (The Batman). Executive Producers are Sam Register and Bruce Timm. Benjamin Melniker and Michael Uslan are Executive Producers.

It's been awhile since I've been truly excited about any of the animated films being developed by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation. I really haven't been too impressed with what they've been doing recently, but Batman and Harley Quinn looks like it could be great. I liked what I saw in the first trailer that was released, especially the fact that it was done in the same art style as Batman: The Animated Series. This is also an original story that was developed by Bruce Timm.

Another DC Universe Original Movie is on its way, and this one looks like one that is going to put Batman through the ringer. Batman and Harley Quinn has the Dark Knight and Nightwing teaming up with Harley Quinn of all people.
When Poison Ivy and Jason Woodrue (a.k.a. The Floronic Man) aim to save the planet, largely by getting rid of people, and Batman and Nightwing enlist Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy’s friend, and frequent partner-in-crime. As you might imagine, Harley isn’t exactly cut out for a straight-forward partnership that has her on the right side of things.
The release also includes a featurette on Harley Quinn, a couple of bonus cartoons, and more.
Check out all the info below, including the intriguing trailer, and let us know what you think of this one.

With the awesome showings that were Justice League Dark and Teen Titans: The Judas Contract now behind us, our attention turns toward the next major DC animated film of 2017 in Batman and Harley Quinn. Pairing one of the genre’s most lucrative players in the former with one currently boasting white hot popularity in the latter was a wise move on the part of the studio and, judging by last week’s trailer reveal, it looks like they have another hit on their hands.

Love it or hate it, Harley Quinn was undoubtedly a highlight in last year’s controversial Suicide Squad movie. And the character’s growing popularity with fans is not lost on filmmakers. While Margot Robbie is now set to headline her own spinoff called Gotham City Sirens, Warner Bros Animation and DC Entertainment are hard at work to deliver fans an original animated movie, Batman And Harley Quinn.
The new direct-to-download film is based on an original story by DC animation legend Bruce Timm and looks to explore Batman’s relationship with the nutcase formerly known as Dr Harleen Quinzel. While we twiddle our thumbs and wait for the double punch of the Dceu's live-action Wonder Woman and Justice League movies, Warner Bros and DC Entertainment continue to skip along in their own little (arguably better) animated universe.

Before there was the DC Extended Universe in live-action cinema, there was the DC Animated Universe – a notable multimedia collection of animated tales based on DC Comics properties. It was the DC Animated Universe that gave birth to the now iconic, fan favourite character, Harley Quinn – who was introduced in Batman: The Animated Series in 1992. Since 2014, DC has been releasing original animated movies that have grown in profile but, now that Harley Quinn is set for a co-lead role in the upcoming Batman And Harley Quinn, newly released casting details may be surprising to some fans.
There’s no director confirmed just yet, but Batman: The Animated Series co-creator Bruce Timm is on board as executive producer.
