Despite Graham Nash’s words at the conclusion of Robin Lutz’s documentary M.C. Escher: Journey to Infinity stating that the world is destined to reappreciate the artist’s work, the fact that it’s taken three years for the film to become available in the United States seemingly proves the opposite. As the pop culture footage during the end credits reveals, however, it might just be that Nash was underestimating how important Escher’s art already was. From Labyrinth to Inception and tattoos to YouTube make-up tutorials, the Dutchman’s optical illusions and tessellations have been captivating and inspiring future generations for a century now. Just because his prints aren’t hanging next to Picassos doesn’t mean they’re any less ubiquitous or awe-inspiring. Like all great graphic design, their conceptual ingenuity transcends aesthetic categorization.

"We need to contain this." Vega Baby has released an official trailer for the indie sci-fi thriller Encounter, which is being released straight-to-vod at the start of October. This premiered at the Other Worlds Austin Film Festival last year, but hasn't played at any other fests - which is not a good sign. It's about a group of friends who uncover an alien object in a rural field, which they learn holds great secrets. The object attaches itself to one of them, but what is it doing to him? Starring Luke Hemsworth (not to be confused with his brothers Chris and Liam), with Anna Hutchison, Glenn Keogh, Christopher Showerman, Vincent M. Ward, Cheryl Texiera, and Tom Atkins. Looks as bad as it sounds, but maybe it's still a fun B-movie. Here's the full official trailer (+ two posters) for Paul Salamoff's Encounter, direct from YouTube: A group of friends...

"We get our fair share of non-believers, but sooner or later they come to realize the truth. Rlje Films has debuted the official trailer for an alien abduction, sci-fi mystery/thriller film titled Beyond The Sky, which is getting a release next month. While shooting a documentary to expose the lies of alien abductees, a provocative filmmaker and his crew encounter a young woman with a dark secret who leads them to uncover a disturbing truth. The film has gone under a few other titles, including Encounter and False Memory Syndrome, but will be released as Beyond The Sky. Travis Walton, author of the memoir "Fire in the Sky" about his own alien abduction experience (which was turned into that horrifying 1993 film Fire in the Sky), served as a consultant and has a cameo in the film. Metal Gear has a long history of being simply great at pretty much everything, but one thing that might stand out for everyone is the extremely great music behind it. Now you can experience the orchestral music live outside of Japan for the first time.
Normal 0 false false false En-us X-none X-none
As I stated to our editor here at Cinelinx, I was mid process writing an article about how great the music is in my favorite franchise. The music adds so much emotion to everything, and it is so well done that I’d even dare to compare it to the best soundtracks of movies. The music in Mgs alone allows us to argue that gaming as an art form is just as good, if not better, than other mediums such as movies. But that’s all up to opinion.
That being said, if you loved the music behind...

Atlanta actors, listen up! Stay in the loop about what’s currently filming in your fair city (and projects, big and small, seeking talent) with our weekly roundup. Atlanta is hot hot hot! There’s a major search for talent for YouTube’s adaptation of “The Karate Kid.” Casting directors are filling roles for actors that are a range of ages, as young as nine, and up to mid-forties. January Curry is casting for a few featured and background roles in Mario van Peebles’ “Superstition.” Talent is expected to start work at the very end of the month. An independently produced web series called, “We’re Pretty Terrible” is seeking teens for featured roles. It’s good pay, and an excellent opportunity for the 13–15-year-old set. For those in other parts of Georgia, there are some reshoots going on of “Encounter,” a sci-fi drama starring Luke Hemsworth and Anna Hutchison.
