I don't like where we're heading.
tylergilroy5 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Seasons 1 and 2 of this show were very good and borderline amazing. 3 and 4 . . . Not so much. 3 was a very different tone that didn't really fit the show which was normally a fun energetic show, it now was dark and depressing. Season 4 was a somewhat return to form though it still had some of the same elements, specifically from Barry. The main downfall of the show has been caused by Iris West, I have no problem with Candice Patton because I think she is doing her best with a poorly written character.

Iris has gone from a normal reporter and citizen of central city to the leader of team flash and at one point during this season, a speedster herself. There were 2 episodes this season that I skipped, they were both feminist episodes that were met with immense criticism which was well deserved. Nobody ever wanted to see Iris in this position, that's not where her character works and that needs to change if the show is to improve.

I did enjoy the thinker as a villain this season and thought it was a good change of pace from the typical speedster that pushes Barry to go faster. This season Devoe pushes Barry to outthink him which of course he does, however the final showdown with Barry, Ralph and devoe was poorly executed.

Overall this was a lackluster season and not a good sign for the future of the show, I thouroughly hope that they can pull and "Arrow" and pull out a good season 5 and bring the show back to what makes it good.

A Very Good Finale to a Somewhat "Filler" Season
venomfan341223 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
More often than not, I feel like the Flash post-Season 1 gets a bad rap. Yes, there are flaws, but overall I thought Seasons 2 and 3 were very good, with Season 2 being my favorite. However, even though I have liked Season 4 a lot, there was a lot to be desired. The writing was consistent, but not up to par, and DeVoe and Marlize got tiring after a while. However, I am happy to say that this Season Finale has made up for and resolved a lot of my issues with this Season, despite it being more small-scale than normal. Seeing Ralph come back definitely put a smile on my face, Hartley Sawyer was too good to just be in this Season alone, and I'm glad he'll be coming back for the next one. DeVoe was beaten in a way that didn't undermine his intelligence, and although things dragged on a bit after his defeat with the satellite falling, it did keep the stakes high and let us know that he wouldn't go out without a back up plan. Harry getting himself back, but not his intelligence, is interesting, but I'm very worried that Tom Cavanagh is actually leaving the show, because that would be a tragic loss. We finally find out who the mystery girl is, Nora Allen, Barry and Iris's daughter from the future, and her last lines set up the story for next Season. Which is why it feels like this entire Season was just filler to get to the real follow up to Season 3/Flashpoint. However, I am glad that story elements from this Season (speed force equation, Nora) will carry on to the next one. All in all, this was a much better Season Finale than last year's, and hopefully the story for the next Season this fall will be more fine-tuned and have the wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey stuff that we loved from the first three. This Season was fun, but I'm ready to get back to the core of this show. Now please, for the love of god, bring back Julian.

Wonderful finish to subpar season
mastiffmancm23 May 2018
Although this season has by far been the most disappointing (for me) of the franchise, the ending episode was good. It was Fun, it tied things up with this seasons villain and set up next season nicely. Now that I've said that, I'm honestly hoping and praying they get of the "Iris is in charge of the crew" crap. She became a specialist at everyone else's job, in one season.

A show that is reaching saturation to appease the woke audience.
gaurav-agarwal-9613 November 2019
It started of amazingly well. Great characters, great acting, great writing and great acting.

And then everything became crap. Cisco can just make any device with prefixing the word "quantum" to it.

Iris is unbearable. I was rooting for savitar to actually kill her. Killer frost was an amazing character and now she seems like one right out of a teen soap opera.

They haven't even had a decent villain since reverse flash and zoom.

Great Finale

Exciting, thrilling and fairly predictable. Everything in this finale is perfect including the twist which you can see from a mile away. However still excited for season 5.

AWESOME FINALE
alexslusher23 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Over the course of the summer of 2017, I started getting into The Flash when I started binge watching it on Netflix and from August to May I finally finished catching up on all of the present Arrowverse shows on Netflix such as Arrow seasons 1-5, The Flash seasons 1-3, Supergirl seasons 1-2 and Legends of Tomorrow seasons 1-2. So in all honesty, considering that The Flash season 4 was the first season I watched as it aired on TV, I actually have to admit, I liked this season way more than I should, and it's sad that this season hasn't been the best for most but I actually enjoyed it, and the finale makes it even better. I honestly can't wait to see how season 5 turns out, especially considering the fact that Nora Allen said she "screwed up" and now Team Flash has a new member, Jenna Marie West. Long story short, Great Episode.

The worst season finale of The Flash and the worst season of the entire Arrowverse (worse than Arrow's season four).

Warning: Spoilers
I came in to this episode with some pretty low expectations and I'm happy to say that this episode surpassed them. Overall, it was a meh episode until Barry and Nora destroyed the satellite. At that moment, I really began to pay attention to the episode, and it'll be interesting to see how they incorporate Nora's mistake into season 5

Just like every other finale in the last 3 years ,, just can't wait till October.
Aktham_Tashtush23 May 2018
A finale is good when the unexpected happens,, A finale is great when the unbelievable happens :D

I seriously did not see the finale going this way,, i mean i did expect the team to fight DeVo and maybe beat him in some freakish way , but the finale scene was just jaw-dropping ,, as we have seen "this character" before and it was not clearly decided ,,was she one of the bad or good ones !! but i think the writers wanted to open up a huge door for a full-on season next October, so they needed to introduce an old/new plot but this time its even more "personal".

as they left us every season/mid-season finale ,, i just can't wait to see how things will pan out.

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: We Are the Flash
lbramson12 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Barry goes inside DeVoe's mind to defeat him and bring back Ralph. Also, Cecile gives birth or whatever. Despite having the worst title ever (the 4x02 trauma is kicking in), this finale wasn't half bad. It was a finale that stuck the landing, there was a few dull moments, but it was fine. I didn't care for it cutting from Cecile's birth to the actually interesting stuff. I thought there were cool sequences though. The problem is the enlightenment plan wasn't set in motion until the last episode so there's no sense of urgency. Overall, a cool but underwhelming finale. Still way better than last season's.

7.7/10-Good👍

Season 4 Ranking: 23: Run, Iris, Run 22: Girls' Night Out 21: Honey, I Shrunk Team Flash 20: Harry and the Harrisons 19: Null and Annoyed 18: Subject 9 17: Luck Be A Lady 16: Mixed Signals 15: When Harry Met Harry 14: The Flash Reborn 13: Therefore She Is 12: We Are The Flash 11: Elongated Journey Into Night 10: Elongated Knight Rises 9: True Colors 8: Fury Rogue 7: Don't Run 6: Therefore I Am 5: Crisis on Earth X Part 3 4: Think Fast 3: Lose Yourself 2: Trial of the Flash 1: Enter Flashtime

Season 4 was a doosey! For every amazing episode like Enter Flashtime there was a terrible one like Run, Iris, Run. Most people say this was the death of the show, but I think the downward spiral began in Season 5. Wait, we're on Season 5. Oh god dang it!

Worst finale of The Flash
breathedirt23 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Where to start? Team Flash finally found a way how to stop DeVoe - to fight DeVoe in his own mind. So they couldn't defeat DeVoe (The Thinker) in the outside world but now they were able to do so inside his head where he should be strongest and where Flash shouldn't be able to use his fast body as only his mind is present. Well, they, of course, defeated him. No grand duel between Flash and the season 4's main villain - just some under-average fight scenes in DeVoe's mind with his clones - that's what we've been waiting for the whole season. In addition, Flash was able to save Dibny (I was actually glad that he disappeared from the show as I was fed up with that childish character), Harry's fried brain was, of course, restored to a considerable extent, irritating Iris The Thinker 2.0 reminded everyone what's important again, Cecile and her baby formed major part of the finale and Barry's daughter from the future revealed herself to Team Flash at the end of the episode with "we need to talk", made a repetitious and not-so-funny comment "this house is bitchin'" and concluded her speech in a very dramatic manner - "I made a big mistake" (yeah, and that's why you had to run to 2018's version of Barry when you weren't even born). I'm very disappointed. I hope that in Season 5 they will stop trying to be "funny" and go back to what made them so good at the beginning - really good plot, acting, villains and breath-taking scenes.

The Flash Season 4 Review
moviesbanta26 October 2018
This season of the Flash finally shook things up a bit and gave us a main villain that was not a speedster, The Thinker. While the overarching story certainly had its issues, it was a refreshing change of pace and the right move for the show. Clifford Devoe aka The Thinker was, for the most part, an interesting and menacing antagonist. Another way in which this season mixed things up was with a lighter tone which was also a good move. The Flash is at its best when its great cast of characters are interacting and making jokes and season 4 delivered plenty of that. Barry, Cisco, Harry, Caitlyn, Joe and new addition, Ralph, are what keep me coming back to this show. (Seriously how good is Tom Cavanagh???!!!) However I'm sure you've noticed there's a pretty big omission from that list, Iris West. I can't stand her. The Flash is another example of a superhero show that has absolutely no idea what to do with their side characters/love interests with no superpowers. Iris has no real value in Team Flash and the fact that she is leading the team is cringeworthy. To be fair I don't hate Iris and I want her and Barry to stay together but she should not be a part of the team and the romantic scenes between her and Barry need to be better written because almost every scene they had together this season was cheesy. However she was not bad enough to completely derail the season for me. The fact is that, thanks to its (mostly) great cast, this season of The Flash provided me with approximately 20 hours of enjoyable superhero action. However I'm sure that isn't enough for most people and that is why every season of The Flash gives us a new main antagonist and overarching story to keep us engaged. This season's main story had a few missteps in that occasionally solutions to problems were a little too convenient and out of nowhere and things definitely get more than a little bit weird but overall I found this story of Team Flash taking on The Thinker to be quite engaging. Telling a story over the course of 23 episodes is incredibly difficult but this season was definitely not the most poorly paced season that DC's CW shows have given us so far. In fact, I would say that this season's overarching story gave us some truly great and exciting moments including.a string of episodes where Barry deals with being framed for murder. Another cool thing about this season is that every single character has there own side story or challenge to overcome. This does become frustrating at times because the show is supposed to be about Barry Allen/The Flash but I do really love this supporting cast and I've definitely become more attached to them as a result of their individual struggles this season. Even Iris had her own challenges to overcome and, although it was a little annoying to watch, she is a slightly better character because of it. This season was not received well and honestly I think the response was a little unfair. Aside from Iris this season was really entertaining and took the show in the direction it needed to go after some really dark moments in seasons 2 and 3. To all those fans who are annoyed that Barry did not stay in the speed force for longer probably need to understand the kind of show this is and that it is a show about Barry. The supporting cast are great but NO-ONE wants to watch a show where Wally is the lead. I don't dislike Wally and I know he takes on the mantle in the comics but, I'm sorry, Grant Gustin is the star of this show (and Wally West is kinda sulky). At the end of the day the comics are only source material and the writers have to do what's best for the show. As comic book fans we should make sure that our expectations and connection to stories told in a completely different medium do not impact out enjoyment of shows like this too much. One problem I do have with the show is the consistency of Barry's powers. This season introduced the idea of Flash Time which occurs when Barry movies so quickly time and every one else is almost completely frozen. But somehow Barry can still get taken out by some pretty unthreatening villains? It's pretty infuriating but this problem is not specific to season 4 and Flash fans should be pretty used to it by now. My favourite episodes from this season were The Flash Reborn, Therefore I Am, The Trial of the Flash, Enter Flashtime, Lose Yourself, Think Fast and We Are the Flash. Overall season 4 of The Flash is a fun and relatively light-hearted watch that prioritises character development. It is certainly not the most ambitious or amazing season of superhero television you'll see but it's still pretty darn good.

Decent finale to a mediocre season
caleblimsw27 May 2020
Just a little better than a usual filler episode of this season. Faster, more exciting, but the plot was resolved in a relatively mediocre and forgettable manner, DeVoe loses in a relatively okay manner, but it was pretty predictable and the stakes felt so low there was no tension. Final villain is defeated but it triggers a bigger incident that sets up season 2? What is this, the S1 finale? No, it really isn't.

Season as a whole was really slow paced and really mediocre writing wise. It also had the worst 2 episodes ever "Girls Night Out" and "Run, Iris, Run", but the rest of the season's pure mediocrity averages this out.

I'd still give the season as a whole 6/10. Not bad, but not good either.

Finally it's over!
inquisitively1 June 2018
SPOILER: Season four should only be seen while taking a dump (save your precious time). If there's anything to look forward in season five; hopefully, they start out by dumbing down 'Iris the Thinker 2.0' (great moniker by breathedirt)-- Writers should introduce the Thinkless cap. First we get Iris in a vegetative state. That first episode will make the precedent for the remaining episodes.

Did everyone watch what I did?

Warning: Spoilers
*Spoilers for Arrow S06 Finale and Flash S04 Finale* Holy crap that was awful. I thought the finale was supposed to have stakes, nobody died, Clifford was defeated easily and Ralph just came back... just like that. Damn, officially the worst season in the Arrowverse. The cliffhanger does not have me excited for season 5 at all and they just let Marlize go... just like that? WHAT? She was involved in a plan to destroy the world and she was just let go? What were the writers thinking?! Another speedster? They just let Wally go to another show because the writers ignored him after season 3... how much do you wanna reckon that they'll do the same thing here? Arrow killed off one of its main characters and put Oliver in prison... All the flash writers did was let Ralph live and basically give Harry his intelligence back (his IQ isn't entirely back but still he isn't stupid at least). Schism (4x23 - Arrow) failed with its fight scene between Oliver and Damian but this finale failed its fight scene so poorly... that awful CGI... so bad. I know its the CW but Jesus Christ... looked like $1.50 was spent on it. Was there anything redeemable about this? It set up some storylines for season 5 but they look boring to say the least. At least they brought back Wally at the end. Nora's first words are "This house is bitchin"... what? Why? Just ouch this finale hurt my soul. Whoever is giving this above a 5... just why??

3/10 (What an awful piece of garbage and complete waste of 45 minutes). I'll give s05e01 a shot because Arrow got better from its fifth season premiere episode onwards but if its still this bad in its first episode of s05, I'm done. Even worse than I thought it would be.

Where Are the Stakes? Yet Another Season that Stays Status Quo...
ThomasDrufke23 May 2018
The thing I always worry about with these CW shows is stakes. The first few seasons of Arrow were incredibly bold and always displayed the amount of stakes that gave you worry about each characters' well being when the season came to a close. Flash on the otherhand, is the exact opposite. Their version of stakes is killing off characters that are only meant to be in one season or are just side characters. Eddie, HR, Henry, Ralph etc. But even Ralph, somehow someway found his way back into surviving this season. Why you may ask?

I have no idea. He hasn't really shown that he's deserving of having an extended stay on this show. Do we really need to add yet another team member to this overcrowded show? Back to the stakes, what was really the impact of anything the Thinker did this year? Besides Harry having his mind go back down to a slightly dumber version of himself, what did this season do to bring a new dynamic to the show? For as much as season 4 and season 6 of Arrow are ripped apart, both of those seasons did things that significantly threw a wrench in the show's status quo. It's really this simple fact that killed this season finale for me.

We knew that Marlize was eventually going to side with Team Flash, we figured that the team would find a way to save Harry's mind (for the most part), and we knew they weren't going to allow the Thinker's plans to come to fruition. The surprises just weren't there. Even the last minute appearance of Nora (Barry and Iris' daughter) wasn't shocking, it just set up a story for next season. How creative....

Lazy Writing all over the season
Nikotoh24 May 2018
Season 4 of The Flash was a disappointment. Lazy writing all over the season. DeVoe didn't at ANY POINT feel like a main villain. Pretty filler'ish season tbh. Not sure if interested in the next season at all, because it seems that Flash has started to follow the same path as Arrow. Going down and FAST! There is no originality in these CW shows at all, and that only makes me sad to see good storylines butchered

Average season and bad finale
camuc23 July 2018
Season 4 starts decently with some new meta to fight etc... (I am trying not to add spoilers here). As it moves past episode 14, the season becomes boring and repetitive. At least 3 of the last 8 episodes feel like a waste of time. The writers clearly ran out of ideas and tried to stretch every character to occupy some screen time and make enough episodes. The two final episodes are as full of cheese as "Once upon a time". It's just that in a kid's show you sort of welcome cheese, while here it's totally out of place. I really hope that writing improves for Season 5. I fell asleep during the finale of season 4, twice, and I really want The Flash to go back to what it used to be.

When a dumb Iris gets even dumber...
adamsosnowski28 May 2020
We have three minutes before an aesteroid destroys the city! What is Iris' genius plan? Evacuate the city! IN THREE MINUTES! Gees, Iris West is really one of the dumbest characters ever created. The worst moments of season 4 were Iris' dialogues and lines. Too bad they didn't replace her with Marlize who also happens to be a fine actress. The rest of the episode was also underwhelming. So Flash defeated the Thinker in his mind using superspeed. Yes, that makes total sense.

An Underwhelming End To A Tedious Season
Tyypo24 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
So much awfulness in this past season's The Flash. To sum up, DeVoe (The Thinker) creates a busload of metahumans to acquire their powers to a nefarious end. Essentially every episode found our heroes trying to save these people, but failing miserably w/ considerable collateral damage of human lives. It was an exercise in masochism to watch this ad nauseam.

In the finale, we see Marlize join our team to help them defeat her husband in an unlikely change of heart. She has been complicit in The Thinker's plans from the beginning. She has opposed the team, even stabbing Iris at one point. With her help, villain defeated in a very unsatisfying non-climax. Then, it's practically hugs and kisses as she moves on despite the fact that her motives have been evil since day one. No accountability for her actions at all.

I was actually pleased that Ralph was spared in the end. He's not a particularly likable character, but I felt bad for him that Barry had failed to keep him safe (as he had the other metahumans as well). He still shows potential, in that some of his ideas over the course of the season were helpful and successful. Harry's recovery without his intellect was unexpected. I have no other opinion about that. A time-travelling daughter from the future? I already don't care.

Worst Thing Ever Written?
abjames-5947925 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Never in my life have I seen a disaster like this.

Barry suddenly goes into The Thinker's brain? What? First off, Cecille's powers were never even explained. She's pregnant so she can read minds--oh how funny, now let's use it in the climax of the entire season.

Then, they suddenly link Barry up to Cecille which is supposed to give him her powers? And then despite not being linked to or even in the general area of Devoe, Barry can go into his brain? And furthermore, they claim that Barry's speed ability matters WHILE he's in Devoe's brain.

They take five minutes to defeat the first Devoe clone, and then they send hundreds more and they just run through them like its nothing! Where is the logic here? And they brought Ralph back. Seriously. Ralph. What a terrible character--his death was the best episode of the season.

I can't wait to see Ralph learn a new lesson every episode in Season 5.

Harrison gets his intelligence back but instead of being totally intelligent he becomes average? What happened? And then because of his lack of intelligence he is now more compassionate? Intelligence does not mean unempathetic. Good lord.

Worst episode of TV I've ever watched. 1 star is generous.

Season 4, people, where Barry (and everyone else) just has whatever powers the plot needs them to.

I guess we're just supposed to go with it?
