A new live-action film adaptation of author Tomi Adeyemi’s fantasy novel trilogy “Children of Blood and Bone” will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (“The Old Guard”) for Paramount Pictures:
“…’Zélie Adebola’ remembers when the soil of ‘Orïsha’ hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélie’s ‘Reaper’ mother summoned forth souls. But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, ‘maji’ were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.
“Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good. Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers...

There is movement for Paramount's plan to turn Tomi Adeyemi‘s novel Children Of Blood And Bone into film. According to Deadline, :a[The Old Guard]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/the-old-guard/' } and :a[The Woman King]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/the-woman-king/' } director Gina Prince-Bythewood is jumping aboard to direct.
Adeyemi‘s book is set in a fantasy realm where, 11 years ago, Zelie and Tzain lost their mother, and all of Orisha lost magic. The maji were rounded up and slaughtered by King Saran’s orders, and the diviners became second-class citizens, oppressed so they would never rise up again.
But all of that changes when a scroll turns up that has the ability to grant magic to the diviners, changing them into maji. The answer becomes clear to Zelie: they must bring magic back.
For Amari, the princess, the path is less clear. Though...

Somewhere, in a galaxy far, far away, Darth Vader screams the word “No!” I’ve got upsetting news if you’ve waited years for Kevin Feige to begin work on his Star Wars feature. Your space princess is in another castle. While waxing rhapsodic with Entertainment Tonight about Marvel Studios’ latest superhero spectacle, The Marvels, Feige confirmed his Star Wars project is no longer in development.
Initially, Feige would develop and produce a new movie in the Star Wars Universe. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe needs his full attention, with dozens of film and television projects on the horizon. Feige’s Star Wars film had Loki creator Michael Waldron writing the script, but that’s about as far as details went.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Ash Crossan asked Feige if there’s any chance we’ll hear more about his Star Wars movie. “No,” Feige responded, finally putting rumors about...

Will we ever know what we really went down when Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness scribe Michael Waldron set out to make their very own Star Wars movie? That remains to be seen. What we do know for sure is that the movie isn’t happening. Or was never happening at all. It really depends on who you ask at Disney.
The latest update on this “shelved” project comes from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy herself, who sat down with IGN to set the record straight during Star Wars Celebration 2023. Unfortunately, her comments on the project, which she says was never in development to begin with, actually make this long-winded behind-the-scenes saga even more confusing.
“Kevin Feige’s project was something announced in the press, or I suppose fandom. But there was nothing. Nothing ever got developed. We never discussed an idea,” Kennedy told IGN.

In a new interview with IGN, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy addressed reports that Marvel leader Kevin Feige’s planned Star Wars project was shelved by saying the potential film actually “never got developed.”
“Kevin Feige’s project was something announced in the press, or I suppose fandom. But there was nothing. Nothing ever got developed. The next big YA fantasy is here.
At least, that’s what Simon & Schuster hopes as it sets the release date and debuts the cover art for Once There Was, a fantasy novel intended for all ages from Kiyash Monsef, a California-based, Emmy-nominated producer and writer who will be making his book debut with an April 4, 2023 publishing date.
Hollywood is also pinning its hopes on this possible next big thing, with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment, the banner behind recent films Thirteen Lives and tick, tick…Boom!, picking up the screen rights to develop a film adaptation.
Both New York publishing and Hollywood went all in for YA fantasy around 25 years ago when J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone took the world by storm, blasting the door wide open for new authors, new stories and new movies.

The much-anticipated movie adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi's Children of Blood and Bone is finally on its way! Lucasfilm announced that the project will be its first original live-action project since coming under the Disney umbrella. The movie won't be here until 2022, but in the meantime, you can get familiar with what to expect from the magical tale. Fair warning: spoilers abound ahead!
The novel takes place in a fictional land called Orïsha, where people are divided into two classes: divîners, magically sensitive, white-haired people who can hone their skills to become maji, and kosidán, the nonmagical citizens. Eleven years before the book begins, the king, a kosidán named Saran, discovered a way to turn off magic in the land, then ordered the massacre of the divîners. The mother of Zélie Adebola was among those killed, and, in the present day, Zélie lives, as the other divîners do, in an incredibly oppressive society.

When HBO’s marketing teams began crafting the influencer marketing campaign for their sci-fi thriller “Lovecraft Country,” they made sure to keep the blerd community in mind.
“It is cool to be a blerd now,” WarnerMedia’s senior VP of multicultural marketing Jackie Gagne tells Variety. “It is a very passionate group and we knew that there would be a lot of love for ‘Lovecraft Country’ and that those would be voices that would really help us drive awareness for the series.”
Over the last few years, the slang term for “Black nerd” has grown in both popular awareness and esteem, with more events and marketing created for and catering to the members of that community.
“We sort of picked up on this when we were first promoting ‘Westworld,’” Gagne says. “We knew the blerd community would really be interested in the subject matter, so we started to form and identify relationships a while ago.

Exclusive: HBO Max has won a spec auction for The Ancestor, a psychological thriller script by Kay Oyegun that will be developed as a star vehicle for Tika Sumpter, produced by Michael B. Jordan and Alana Mayo’s Outlier Society. I’ve heard the deal was high six figures.
Several suitors were in the mix for the spec which Oyegun wrote from a story she hatched with Sumpter, who’ll play an African American female med student who finds herself in a timely psychological thriller premise in the tradition of Get Out. Sumpter has co-starred in the Ride Along films and played the future First Lady Michelle Robinson Obama in Southside With You. She most recently co-starred in Sonic The Hedgehog.

Katy Rose Pool's There Will Come a Darkness was one of the most critically-acclaimed young adult fantasies of 2019. Exclusive: Kay Oyegun, who currently serves as a producer and writer on NBC’s hit drama series, This Is Us, has been tapped to write the screenplay for the film adaptation of On the Come Up, the young adult novel by The Hate U Give author Angie Thomas.
The project, originally set at Fox 2000 who released 2018’s The Hate U Give film starring Amandla Stenberg, moved to Paramount Players earlier this year after the Fox division was shuttered when Disney took over.
Set in the same universe as its predecessor, On the Come Up focuses on Bri, a young rapper and the daughter of an underground hip hop legend who died just before making it big. Her father’s legend makes him a hard act to follow, but between Bri being bullied and watching her mother struggle after losing her job, she pours out her frustration into songs that become big viral hits.

Whoa!!! So, I didn’t see this coming! Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is set to develop a Star Wars movie for Lucasfilm!
It’s no secret that Feige is a huge Star Wars fan, so after pitching an idea to Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy, Disney CEO Bob Iger, and studio co-chairmen Alan Horn and Alan Bergman, it looks like he’s going to continue to have more of his dreams come true. I guess that’s what happens when you’re super talented.
Horn explained that after The Rise of Skywalker is released, Kennedy "is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together.”
Lucasfilm is planning a new wave of Star Wars projects and Feige will probably end up playing a big part in that.

It hasn’t exactly been entirely smooth sailing for the Star Wars franchise since Kathleen Kennedy was appointed President of Lucasfilm following Disney’s acquisition of the company back in 2012. Sure, they definitely made their money back thanks to the fact that The Force Awakens, Rogue One, The Last Jedi and Solo combined to earn almost $5 billion worldwide, but ever since Star Wars entered into the post-George Lucas era, the series has also been plagued by numerous issues behind the scenes, as well as coming under fire several times from a good chunk of the fanbase.
Then again, when it comes to something like Star Wars, which is one of the most popular franchises ever, it’d be near impossible to have every single movie please everybody. But still, the studio is doing their best and they’ve just announced something pretty exciting that’s going to help win a lot of fans over.

It looks like Lucasfilm might end up producing a new film franchise for Disney that isn’t a part of the Star Wars or Indiana Jones franchises. The film project will be an adaptation of the action fantasy novel called Children of Blood and Bone from author Tomi Adeyemi.
The project was originally set up at Fox and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is interested in bringing it to life. This Is Us writer Kay Oyegun is in the process of making a deal with the studio to write the script. For those of you not familiar with the story, here’s the synopsis:
Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.
But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.
