Saturday night at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Nick Offerman (“The Last of Us”) won the trophy for Best Drama Guest Actor. He plays Bill on the HBO drama series, and this marks his first career victory (despite all those heralded years on “Parks and Recreation”) with the Television Academy. He was previously nominated three times for hosting the reality program “Making It.”
After being delayed since September due to the writers’ strike and actors’ strike, the Creative Arts Emmys for scripted fare finally took place on Saturday, January 6, with more awards for unscripted programs being doled out on Sunday, January 7. The official Primetime Emmys ceremony will air on Fox next Monday, January 15 with Anthony Anderson serving as host.

When the nominations for the 1959 Primetime Emmys were revealed, 13-year-old supporting candidate Johnny Crawford (“The Rifleman”) became the youngest male acting contender in TV academy history and then retained the title for the next six and a half decades. After so many years of his record appearing to be unbreakable, it was finally shattered this summer by Best Drama Guest Actor nominee Keivonn Montreal Woodard, who turned 10 this February. His historic bid for HBO’s “The Last of Us” makes him not only a credit to child actors but also to deaf performers, as no male one had ever earned Emmy recognition before.
Woodard appears in two first-season episodes of “The Last of Us” as Sam Burrell, a survivor of both leukemia and a pandemic-induced apocalypse who lives under the guardianship of his adult brother, Henry (Lamar Johnson). In his submitted episode, “Endure and Survive,” his comic book-loving character forms...

Nick Offerman has been a bit of an Emmys bridesmaid so far, as the versatile actor has been nominated three times in his career but failed to turn any of them into cold, hard wins he can put on his shelf. This year, he earned his fourth nomination — and, surprisingly, his first one as an actor. He was nominated for Best Drama Guest Actor for HBO’s hugely successful video-game adaptation “The Last of Us.”
In the show, Offerman appears as Bill in episode three — “Long, Long Time.” Perhaps the most emotional episode of the entire series, Offerman is front and center of the drama and truly gets a chance to show off his acting chops. Bill lives a solitary life on his compound when the epidemic breaks out. But his uneasy quiet is disturbed when Murray Bartlett‘s Frank stumbles upon the land. Bill is reluctant to help the...

Just one year after HBO’s “Succession” broke new ground as the first drama series to ever receive four male guest acting Emmy nominations at once, the same network’s “The Last of Us” has matched the impressive feat. Included among those currently recognized for their special appearances on the post-apocalyptic video game adaptation is Lamar Johnson, who has built an extensive acting resume over the past 15 years. Having just turned 29 in July, he ranks as the fourth youngest Best Drama Guest Actor nominee ever and has a shot at becoming the category’s all-time youngest victor.
Johnson’s very first Emmy notice comes for his portrayal of Henry Burrell, a one-time government informant attempting to evade capture by ruthless resistance leader Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey). The actor’s episode submission, “Endure and Survive,” shows that Henry never has much time to dwell on his dire situation as an apocalypse survivor...

That sound you heard on Emmy nominations morning was the “Parks and Recreation” group chat blowing up. Three of the cult TV comedy’s cast members were nominated at the 2023 Emmys, making this year’s ceremony a full-on “Parks & Rec” reunion. Amy Poehler is cited for her work hosting the reality show “Baking It” (alongside Maya Rudolph), Aubrey Plaza is up for her supporting role on “The White Lotus,” and Nick Offerman is nominated for his guest stint on “The Last of Us.”
For those keeping track at home, only Poehler earned Emmy love back in the “Parks & Rec” days, which aired between 2009 and 2015 on NBC. She received six consecutive Best Comedy Actress bids (2010-2015) for her role as Leslie Knope, the overachieving department head in Pawnee, Indiana. Poehler also picked up two producing bids when the show was recognized for Best Comedy Series (2011 and ’15.)

The 2023 Best Drama Guest Actor Emmy lineup consists of a balanced mix of outside winners, past nominees, and total first-timers whose wide age range runs from 10 to 83. Nick Offerman (“The Last of Us”) has been leading the pack all season, but all six final contenders have more than reasonable claims to victory. This includes Murray Bartlett, whose own mention for the same “Last of Us” installment comes on the heels of his 2022 supporting triumph for “The White Lotus” and is coupled with another featured limited series bid for “Welcome to Chippendales.”
“The Last of Us” immediately follows “Succession” as the second show to ever concurrently receive four nominations in this category. Its other two went to Emmy newcomers Lamar Johnson and Keivonn Montreal Woodard, with the remaining slots being filled by returning “Succession” hopefuls James Cromwell and Arian Moayed.

This year, for the fifth time in Emmys history, the number of nomination slots in the Best Reality Host category has decreased from six to five. Although all but one of the four previous cases resulted in full slates of immediate repeat nominees, Gold Derby’s users have come to a solid consensus that, this time, only four 2022 contenders will return and that they will be joined by first-timer Alan Cumming (“The Traitors”). Given the boldness of this prediction in such an instance, the idea of a previously nominated but long ignored host making a comeback should also be explored, since that outcome is statistically just as likely.
Cumming sits in fifth place on our odds-based predictions list behind seven-time consecutive winner RuPaul (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”), the “Queer Eye” quintet, Nicole Byer (“Nailed It!”) and Padma Lakshmi (“Top Chef”). Despite having precedent in their favor, the six-person “Shark Tank” team...

Amy Poehler and her Paper Kite Productions partner Kate Arend are building a mini docuseries empire. The two created competition series Making It, followed by last year’s Baking It, and now they’ve teamed up with the producers of the original Queer Eye for The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning. “We like to try to work in the unscripted space in a way that isn’t about intimidation or humiliation,” Poehler says. “We’re not that interested in watching people fight.”
The actor, who narrates the show about an organizer, designer and psychologist who help people clean out their homes both in preparation for death and as a healing process, gathered at the Crosby Street Hotel for a live THR Presents panel, powered by Vision Media, where they discussed the making of the show and the “cathartic release” they get while watching.

In 2019, Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” pulled off a rare Emmy feat by winning both of the drama guest acting categories in the same night, for Cherry Jones and Bradley Whitford. Four years later, HBO’s “The Last of Us” is hoping to achieve that stat by claiming the same two trophies, and Gold Derby’s Emmy odds suggest it could happen. Currently, Melanie Lynskey is a favorite to win Best Drama Guest Actress and Nick Offerman leads Best Drama Guest Actor for their roles on the zombie apocalypse video game adaptation.
Besides “The Handmaid’s Tale,” the only other drama series in recent memory to claim both guest races in the same night was “The Practice,” and it did so twice. Sharon Stone and William Shatner both prevailed in 2004, while Beah Richards and James Whitmore each triumphed in 2000. Can Lynskey and Offerman now follow in their footsteps for “The Last of Us...

Fans of “Parks and Recreation” know a thing or two about patience. For seven seasons, they waited for the Emmy Awards to nominate supporting players Aubrey Plaza and Nick Offerman for their stand-out roles of April Ludgate and Ron Swanson, respectively. It never happened. Overall, NBC’s cult mockumentary nabbed 14 bids, including two for Best Comedy Series and six for lead actress Amy Poehler. Meanwhile, Plaza and Offerman were forced to endure years of countless “snubs” lists.
Flash-forward to 2023 and, if early buzz is any indication, both stars will have smiles on their faces on Emmy nominations morning (and it won’t be because of Li’l Sebastian). Plaza delivered the performance of her career in Season 2 of “The White Lotus,” and now places in our Top 5 to win Best Drama Supporting Actress. Audacy’s Cadence13 Studios today announced a partnership with Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning writer, actress, producer and director Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions – the production company behind hit shows including Russian Doll, Broad City and Harlem – for a 30-episode comedy franchise featuring stories that parody and pay homage to popular themes in the podcast space.
The franchise will be broken out into three seasons of 10 episodes. Each will focus on a central character and distinct theme; however, characters will make crossover appearances across stories and seasons.
The first installment in the partnership, Say More with Dr? Sheila, is slated to launch later this year. The 10-episode season stars Poehler as Dr? Sheila, a fictional therapist with questionable methods and credentials counseling a new couple every week. Though the season’s story arc will be scripted, the narrative will also feature improvisation by the series regulars as well as...

Megan Mullally joins the legion of fans who are hopeful that her husband Nick Offerman will receive an Emmy nomination for his much-praised performance in HBO’s “The Last of Us,” telling TheWrap that it will be “weird” if his name isn’t called when the nominations are announced on July 12.
At Wednesday night’s Season 3 premiere of “Party Down,” she told TheWrap, “He’s gotten so much acclaim for it and so many people have gotten in touch with him, so I just started calling him ‘Episode 3’ around the house. I’m like, ‘Episode 3,’ are you upstairs?'”
Offerman played the role of survivalist Bill in the third episode of the acclaimed series, which chronicled a years-long love story between Offerman’s character and a man played by Murray Bartlett. The episode has been hailed as one of the year’s best.

Even though nominations for the 74th annual Emmy Awards were announced a month ago, an exclusive list of individuals have reason to celebrate all over again. The TV academy recently added the nominations credits for producers on series. A whopping 27 performers, writers, and directors now have two or more bids in 2022 for their work in front of and behind the camera.
Extending his advantage at the top of this impressive list, Bill Hader has received six nominations this year. He returns to the Comedy Actor category for “Barry,” earned bids for Comedy Writing and Comedy Directing for the HBO series for episodes “starting now” and “710N,” respectively, and now adds a nomination in the Comedy Series category as an executive producer. The performer also netted a Comedy Guest Actor bid for his hilarious turn as relatives Igor, Gregor, and Timor on an 11th season episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

John Erman, an Emmy-winning director-producer who helmed multiple episodes of such classic TV series as Star Trek, M*A*S*H and Peyton Place along with Part 2 of Roots and much of its sequel miniseries Roots: The Next Generations, has died. He was 85.

Born on August 3, 1935, in Chicago, Erman began his show business career as an actor, including an unbilled role in 1955’s Blackboard Jungle before working extensively as a casting director.
