Fun Tribute
The Kings of Gore: Herschell Gordon Lewis and David Friedman (2008)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
John Waters and film critic Dennis Dermody discuss the importance of the "gore" films from Herschell Gordon Lewis including BLOOD FEAST, which Waters showed off in his film SERIAL MOM. This twelve-minute featurette certainly isn't anything ground-breaking but it's a nice tribute to the filmmakers who made such films. Lewis as well as Friedman are both interviewed here and it's nice getting to hear from the two legends of exploitation. If you're unfamiliar with who they are then this is a great way to be introduced, although there are much more detailed documentaries out there. It's always fun hearing Waters talk about his love of these types of movies and this is certainly worth watching.
