The Plot Thickens!
lavatch27 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
With the death of Oscar, Billy decides to take the case to clear the name of young Julio. In this episode, the plot thickens! Patty Solis the realtor/lawyer agrees to join Billy's team with Marva and a repentant Brittany. Tom Watson, Marisol Silva's campaign manager, is deep into illegal drug sales. Billy's daughter Denise means well in trying to curb his drinking.

Unfortunately, Julio and his dad Oscar concocted a phony alibi. Julio was at the scene of the crime, but did not kill the gang members. He witnessed a short man who is likely the killer.

A recurring theme is body parts, which are being dumped in the Pacific. Tom Wyatt was forced at gunpoint to cooperate in the framing of Julio, otherwise he would have been castrated. The mysterious figure "Gabriel" is calling the shots.

Marisol Silva was an unwitting participant in the framing of Julio because she introduced the kid from Brentwood to the gang members, and the Brentwood boy was one of the shooting victims. Tom Wyatt and Danny Loomis stress to Marisol that she must cooperate. If Julio takes a plea offer and goes to jail, they will be in the clear. If not, they all will go down.

Marisol has started an affair with Billy and seeks his advice on her political dilemma at the close of the episode.

Politics

Warning: Spoilers
I hope the show doesn't delve much deeper into politics and trying to make a "bigger statement" about our current situation. Just focus on the Mayoral race and being an entertaining TV show.

Glad we already got back in the court room. That will be the highlight of the season: the actual trial. As for seeing naked men and some of the time-killing discussions on the pier and outside the hotel room? I can do without that.

Back on the Horse

Billy begins to have a thing with the mayoral candidate when one of her kids at the urban center turns out to be the young man who is accused of murder. Billy realizes that he must defend this young man to honor the boy's father, who was a kind, caring man. Meanwhile, we introduced to the scum of the earth. There is all kinds of vicious stuff going on with a massive coverup. If Julio is sent to prison for murder, a bunch of these characters will get off scot free. Meanwhile, Billy is getting his old team back again, including the woman who betrayed him in Season One. But he has no idea at this point how much danger there is in what he is doing.

Tom Wyatt (Mark Duplass) makes this episode wonderful!

A little odd under appreciated gem of an episode that is one of my favorite things ever! Paul Williams is awesome too and everything that occurs is great to me especially the kidnapping bit so good. I watched this years ago and glad to be rewatching Goliath again season 2 is worth watching just for Mark Duplasses character alone.

Goid show, but with too many huge plot problems

Warning: Spoilers
Add another ridiculous storyline to this otherwise good show. Having the hit man and his employer search a dumpster for the gun the hitman threw away, 2 weeks earlier, right after the hit, is ridiculous. Maybe if they added some caveat like the dumpster was in a secluded place, but they search a dumpster that has fresh food garbage in it. No one could be dumb enough to believe the gun was still there after 2 weeks.

Kind of puzzling
dierregi17 May 2023
There are a lot of players in this game and it's kind of difficult to follow what is going on. Besides, apart from Patty and Billy, most characters are unsympathetic, starting from Julio who's supposed the victim of framing, but just keeps on lying and omitting very relevant details.

I know that it's done to move the plot forward, but it feels silly, that cliche scene where the lawyer says "Don't lie anymore to me", the client says "Of course not" and you know there's still a ton of lies coming.

The Marisol-Billy romance is unethical to start with and very unlikely, even if we're given zero background on Marisol... for instance we don't get to see her house, but it should be much better than Billy's dump. Coming to that, it's also so cliché that the "hero" is so disdainful of money and cannot even be bothered to move to the nice house he bought to share with his daughter.

Seriously, who would want to live in a dump when a bright, large new house is available?
