The Ocean Lodge Motel was originally opened in 1958 by Walt Disney's personal accountant, Arthur Gregory. The motel is still open in 2018 as one of the few remaining retro beach motels in Santa Monica.
David Cross (Pete 'The Broker' Oakland) is typically known for playing bald characters. David suggested he wear a wig, which contributed to his backstory of being a failed musician in LA before selling real estate.
The backstory between Billy McBride and Hakeem Rashad occurred when Hakeem was a young prosecutor and Billy defended a murderer who got off and subsequently killed more people. This history heightens the tension between the two characters throughout the rest of the season.
The same actors and house were used from season 1 for Patty Solis-Papagian's family.
At the end of Season 1, Billy walks into the ocean, his fate left up to interpretation. At the beginning of Season 2, Billy has received the large settlement from the case in Season 1, but Billy still struggles with the same afflictions, looking for ways to heal his heart for the wrongs of his past. He hands out money from the settlement, and he takes a pro bono case for Julio after his father, Oscar, is killed. It's more about Billy's personal journey rather than money or professional success.
