Co-Executive Producers/Writers Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner made the decision to tell pieces of the story out of order, mainly with the teasers at the beginning of each episode. This was done to engage the audience as a more active participant in piecing the story together.
Chez Jay is one of the last old-school dive bars in Santa Monica that holds its ground as the area around it becomes more modern and corporate. Billy's character is indicative of that feeling, as he refuses to blend with the modern ethos of the world around him.
The producers loved the drone shots they had in the Season 1. The technology had improved so much by Season 2, they decided to use more of it. They upgraded to a bigger drone with a higher resolution that could carry a RED camera.
Originally, the producers wanted 'Up and At 'Em, Atom Ant' to be played over the final scene, but they couldn't get the rights to it. Executive Producer/Director Lawrence Trilling grew up loving H.R. Pufnstuf (1969). He found it to be innocent but subversive, those making the music reflective of Tom Wyatt's persona and the perfect complement to the scene.
