Exclusive: There will be no fourth season of Step Up (fka Step Up: High Water). Starz has canceled the drama series after its one-season run on the network. The upcoming Season 3 finale, slated to premiere next week, serving as a series finale.
The first two seasons of the Lionsgate TV TV-produced Step Up ran on YouTube. After the Google-owned company in 2019 pulled out of the original scripted business, leaving the series in limbo, Lionsgate-owned Starz stepped in and picked it up for a third season.
The cancellation of Step Up follows Starz’s cancellation yesterday of another Lionsgate TV-produced series, Dangerous Liaisons, reversing its early Season 2 renewal.
Lionsgate has been scrutinizing its balance sheets as the company is preparing to spin off its studio from Starz next year though sources indicated that the cancellations are largely product of fiscal austerity in a very tough economic environment as media companies are stepping up cost-cutting measures.

Oh, yes! That was one insane episode.
Step Up: High Water Season 3 Episode 3 delivered everything. There was romance, sex, betrayal, alliances, and not forgetting Rigo's one hell of a performance at the Bmt awards.
The previous two episodes have felt lazy; we were rehashing the events of the past two seasons. But this episode dials the drama up to one hundred percent.
The episode sets a grand stage for Sage and Rigo's never-ending rivalry. There is no better place for musical kings to face off than at a live televised event. Too bad Sage is banned, and Rigo is not invited.
Stakes are also raised when Rigo and Sage do some insane stuff, and Angel makes her play.
Not to blow my own horn, but rarely am I wrong when I talk about characters. It happens, but seldom. This was one instance in that I wished I was wrong about Angel.

When Louisa (Gabrielle Graham) meets Steve, she’s in awe of his charm, money, and philanthropic endeavors, which seemingly make him a special guy.
Of course, Steve isn’t everything he seems, and just how far he’ll pull Louisa down before she comes out fighting is worth the watch.

If you ever wondered what would happen if Walt Disney was also the Jigsaw Killer, then a) you are a very interesting person, and b) these “Escape Room” movies were made for you.
“Escape Room: Tournament of Champions,” the second film in Adam Robitel’s PG-13 horror franchise, solidifies the series’ mission statement to show off a deadly and insidiously complicated amusement park, where the theming is heavy-handed and all the attractions will kill you if you don’t interact with them exactly the way the designers intended.
These aren’t movies about protagonists undergoing a meaningful transformation. They are extended YouTube walkthroughs of the coolest places you’d never, ever want to go.
The original “Escape Room” saw a group of people drawn into a game constructed by the Minos Corporation. Each room they encountered had a different visual theme, and only by solving tricky clues could the heroes escape with their lives.

Starz has recast the role of Tal Baker for its “Step Up” TV series. The cable channel said Tuesday that Petrice Jones, the actor who played the part when the show’s first two seasons aired on YouTube, will be replaced by Keiynan Lonsdale.
Jones took a series regular role on a different show, so he was not available for the new season of “Step Up,” which was picked up by Starz in May 2020 after the show, formerly known as “Step Up: High Water,” was canceled at YouTube, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.
Per Starz’ character description, “Once an outcast from Ohio, taken from his mother and dropped in the tough streets of Atlanta. Tal faced persecution for his eccentricities, his sexuality and his refusal to submit to the expectations of others. Dancing his way into High Water, literally, beaten and bloodied, Tal became the pride of Sage Odom...

ABC is eyeing a potential series from two “Stumptown” writers.
The network has set up a development plus penalty deal for Latinx family drama “The Three Joaquins,” which hails from scribes Manuel Figueroa and Jordan Heimer.
Partially based on Figueroa’s childhood experience, “The Three Joaquins” tells the story of a wealthy and powerful Latinx family who have their Pasadena world turned upside down when the living proof of their father’s secret life arrives on their doorstep in the form of a 16-year-old kid who shares nothing with his family but their name.
The project is being produced by ABC Signature, with Figueroa and Heimer set to write and executive produce.

Actor Ryan Dorsey expressed grief over ex-wife Naya Rivera’s death Saturday evening on social media. Dorsey took to Instagram to memorialize his late partner’s life. They had one son together, Josey Hollis, who was with Rivera the day of her disappearance.
“This is so unfair… There’s not enough words to express the hole left in everyone’s hearts. I can’t believe this is life now. I don’t know if I’ll ever believe it. You were just here… We were just in the back swimming with Josey the day before. Life just isn’t fair. I don’t know what to say” wrote Dorsey.
Dorsey married Rivera in 2014. They initially filed for divorce in 2016 before calling the separation off in 2017. Following a domestic battery charge on Rivera in November 2017 she subsequently refiled for divorce. They finalized their divorce in 2018 agreeing on temporary joint custody of their child.

Starz’s “P-Valley,” which premiered Sunday night (July 12) to rave reviews, has earned early praise for its authentic, stylized take on the gritty world of strip clubs in the Mississippi Delta.

The search for Rivera lasted for five days, with specialist divers and sonar equipment brought in. Authorities confirmed to TheWrap her body was recovered Monday. A cause of death has not yet been determined.

A little over a month before Naya Rivera lost her life in lake Piru, Starz announced a new season of Step Up, a series inspired by the popular dance movie franchise, which marked the Glee alumna’s return to television in a major role.
A successor to Step Up: High Water, which had aired on YouTube for two seasons, the new installment, from creator and executive producer Holly Sorensen, was to be anchored by the characters played on the original series by Ne-Yo and Rivera.
Per the official announcement, the reimagined Step Up was to center on Sage Odom (Ne-Yo) as the legendary founder of Atlanta’s famed High Water Performing Arts School and Collette (Rivera), his partner in High Water and in life. “The upcoming season will see Sage, Colette and their relationship challenged as they face criminal charges, financial ruin and powerful political enemies who want to destroy Sage and High Water.

Naya Rivera’s passing comes between Seasons 2 and 3 of the “Step Up” TV series, on which she starred, leaving many devastated fans wondering what will become of the show’s lead female character.
The production schedule for Season 3 “had not yet been determined prior to Covid,” a person with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap. Production for pretty much everything in Hollywood ceased when the coronavirus pandemic came stateside in March.
Rivera played Collette Jones on the television adaptation created by Holly Sorenson. Sorenson has been writing Season 3, the person told us, though we do not currently know how many episodes had completed scripts.
Representatives for Sorenson, Starz and Lionsgate did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for an update on preproduction.
