The final season of "Stranger Things" is down one team member: actor Eduardo Franco recently confirmed to "The Steve Varley Show" (via ScreenRant) that his character on the Netflix juggernaut, stoner Argyle, won't be back for season 5. "I never got a phone call, so yeah, I think that's it," Franco told Varley after the host mentioned fan concerns that he was missing from the first cast photo for the new season. Production has reportedly already begun on season 5, so unless Matt and Ross Duffer have a last-minute plan to get Franco back in the show later down the line, it seems his character will be absent during the show's endgame.
It's not exactly surprising that "Stranger Things" would want to cut down on its cast, especially given that season 4 earned some criticism for its bloating, multiple plotlines and sprawling casts. Yet Franco's character, hippie pizza delivery guy Argyle, was one...

Could Kitt ride again? Scooper Daniel Richtman took to his Patreon to claim that not only is Universal Pictures developing a Knight Rider movie, but that John Cena is already attached to star.
Richtman added that Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows (The Package) are writing the script. Of course, nothing has been confirmed at this time, but it’s somewhat surprising that Knight Rider hasn’t received a modern big-screen update like so many of its ’80s brethren. We’ve seen The A-Team, 21 Jump Street, The Equalizer, Miami Vice, and more all make the leap to the big screen, so why not Knight Rider? The classic series starred David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a former detective given a new identity by a tech billionaire to help fight crime. Aiding him in that pursuit was Kitt, an artificially intelligent and nearly indestructible car.

Legendary Entertainment is teaming up with Ryan Reynolds' production company Maximum Effort for the live-action/CGI-hybrid effort "Animal Friends." Who are these animal friends? What form will this combination of live-action and animation take? Well, that's all being kept under wraps for now, with the project remaining somewhat of a mystery beyond cast and crew announcements.
As Deadline reports, Reynolds is set to star in the upcoming movie, alongside Jason Momoa, Vince Vaughn, and Aubrey Plaza. "Animal Friends" will be helmed by Emmy-winning director Peter Atencio, who also directed Legendary's "The Machine" — a big screen adaptation of comedian Bert Kreischer's infamous summer spent abroad in Russia, where he somehow managed to befriend the mafia.
Aside from "Animal Friends" being described as an "R-rated road trip adventure," there's very little else in the way of plot details known at this time. We do know the script has been penned by...

The reality comedy series “Jury Duty” is an elaborate prank on one normal man, and you’ll want to be in on the joke.
On Tuesday, Amazon released a trailer for the series, which is coming to the free ad-supported service Freevee on April 7. It’s a “docu-comedy” following Ronald Gladden, a solar contractor from San Diego who thinks he’s taking part in a documentary about an American jury trial, from juror selection through verdict. In reality, it’s all fake, every other participant is an actor, and everything that happens is carefully scripted to make him feel like he’s taking crazy pills.
“Jury Duty” was created by “The Office” veterans Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” and “Who Is America?” producer Todd Schulman is an EP. Cody Heller (“Dummy”) is the showrunner, and Jake Szymanski (“The Package”) is the director.

“Jury Duty,” the upcoming docu-style comedy series starring James Marsden as himself, explores truths stranger than fiction when one unsuspecting juror is put in a courtroom of actors for a fake case and a faker documentary.
Marsden leads the “Truman Show”-style misadventure, playing a version of himself who tries – and fails – to get out of his civic duty when the judge fails to recognize him as a public figure. In the first trailer for the Amazon Freevee series, which dropped Tuesday, other characters are seen pushing the envelope of what’s acceptable behavior in the literal court of law – while real-life juror Ronald Gladden goes about his duty being none the wiser that everything is staged.

With its list of new releases for September 2022, Prime Video is finally unveiling the most anticipated (and expensive) series in the streamer’s history.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will arrive to Prime Video’s servers on Sept. 2, 2022. This Lord of the Rings prequel, set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age, is in many ways the kind of TV property that Prime Video must have always wanted. It’s certainly the TV property most fitting with the company’s largesse and riches. The Rings of Power will cover the creation of the titular rings and many important events from Tolkien’s lore (condensed into a more TV-appropriate timeframe).

"Protect the package!" Saban Films has unveiled an official trailer for a crime action thriller titled Night of the Sicario, formerly known as Blindsided. They're trying to capitalize on the "Sicario" franchise name, although this has absolutely no connection to those. Natasha Henstridge stars as Taylor, who's forced to hide & protect the young daughter of a Colombian woman in witness protection because she will testify against a powerful drug cartel in Federal Court, while ruthless sicarios aim to take them out. Yet another "deadly game of cat and mouse with the cartel" kind of film. The cast includes Costas Mandylor, Manny Perez, Amanda Diaz, Narci Regina, Addison Kendall, and Martin Peña. This doesn't look so good, not only cheesy but extra derivative action nonsense, but it's always free to watch if you're curious anyway. Here's the first official trailer (+ new poster) for Joth Riggs' Night of the Sicario, direct from...

Geraldine Viswanathan stands out in this conventional but funny would-be romcom of the summer
Geraldine Viswanathan is a 25-year-old Australian actor and comedian of Indian descent who has appeared in a handful of movie-stealing supporting roles, including Blockers and The Package. Now comes a romcom vehicle for her leading actor talents, written and directed by Natalie Krinsky (whose script credits include Gossip Girl and Grey’s Anatomy). The Broken Hearts Gallery was supposed to be the big romcom of the summer – a little something for the ladies while their beaux piled into Tenet, possibly. Finally arriving in cinemas this weekend, it is something of a letdown: a funny but conventional glossy romcom. But there is no messing with Viswanathan, who is undoubtedly the main attraction.
She plays funny and unfiltered Lucy, an art gallery assistant who has a quirky-stroke-creepy collection of mementos from past relationships cluttering her bedroom in a Brooklyn flatshare.

Studio 8 has hired Jake Szymanski to direct an action comedy based on journalist Hudson Morgan’s misadventures in search of buried treasure in the Rocky Mountains.
In 2010, Forrest Fenn, an art dealer in New Mexico, announced he had buried a cache of gold and jewels in the Rocky Mountains — setting off a treasure hunt that attracted thousands. Last month, Fenn announced that a man who wished to remain anonymous had discovered the chest.
Morgan, a journalist turned comedy writer, will write the screenplay roughly based on his own experience in which a group of millennials set out after the treasure after their best friend disappears. That led to shouting matches, natural hazards, close calls with grizzlies, leaving the group with new appreciation for life, friendship and bear spray.
Studio 8’s Jeff Robinov, Guy Danella and John Graham will produce the film. The project is described as “The Goonies” meets “The Hangover.

Netflix is adapting a popular Korean zombie apocalypse webtoon into an original series, Deadline reported on Monday. The show, tentatively titled All Of Us Are Dead, constitutes one of several Korean language productions the streaming giant had ordered back in September.
Based on the webtoon Now At Our School, Netflix’s All Of Us Are Dead will follow a band of teenagers trapped inside their high school facility while a zombie-like disease begins to spread rapidly among the student body. The webtoon – a kind of digitally published comic strip unique to Korean markets – has received critical and commercial acclaim throughout the country. More recently, it’s also done well in Indonesia, Thailand and Taiwan, where the genre is growing in popularity.
All Of Us Are Dead will be written by Chun Sung-il, who’s penned a number of successful Korean films including 2014’s The Pirates, as well as some television...

Netflix is taking on close to 250,000 square feet of studio and office space in Toronto, as part of its agreement to invest in Canada’s entertainment industry.
The company announced pacts to lease two studio spaces in Toronto: with Cinespace Studios for around 164,000 square feet of space, including four sound stages, and with Pinewood Toronto Studios, also for four sound stages and adjacent office space comprising a total footprint of approximately 84,580 square feet. The new spaces add to Netflix’s existing physical production footprint in Canada, which includes a lease of British Columbia’s Martini Film Studios and production sites it sets up on a per-production basis.
The Canadian expansion comes after the streamer in 2017 committed to investing $500 million (Canadian) in content production in the country over a five-year period — a goal Netflix says it’s on track to exceed.
According to Netflix, the new Toronto facilities will provide up to 1,850 production jobs per year.

Mile 81, a Stephen King novella about a killer car, is another movie project on the growing docket of adaptations of the author’s work.
One may be forced to feign surprise when hyping the news that another Stephen King literary work – this time novella Mile 81 – is getting a movie adaptation.
Indeed, the entertainment industry’s “Kingaissance” that, for the past few years, has been flooding studio backlogs across the film and television industries, can add yet another entry to the list of developing projects with a film adaptation of Mile 81, reports Deadline. The King story, which first arrived as a 2011 novella, was later released in the author's 2015 The Bazaar of Bad Dreams short story collection.
A simple plot description of Mile 81 might make one dismiss it as “the other Stephen King story about an evil car.” However, unlike Christine, the popular 1983 novel and same-year film about a malevolently possessed 1958 Plymouth Fury,...

Daniel Radcliffe and Geraldine Viswanathan in ‘Miracle Workers’
When Geraldine Viswanathan graduated from the Hunter School of Performing Arts, she could not have imagined she would go on to co-star with Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi in a Us TV series.
Or, for that matter, that she would join Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney in a movie about the biggest public school embezzlement scandal in Us history.
Dreams have come true for the Newcastle-raised actress, now 23, whose father is an Indian-born doctor and her mother is Swiss.
In her Us TV series debut Geraldine plays an angel named Eliza in Miracle Workers, a seven-part series commissioned by the TBS network which premieres on Stan on February 13, the same day as the Us.
Based on Simon Rich’s book What In God’s Name, the comedy follows Radcliffe as Craig, a low-level angel responsible for handling all of humanity’s prayers.

YouTube has given a pilot order to drama Dark Cargo, from Entertainment One and Canada’s Counterfeit Pictures and SEVEN24 Films. The project, which will be in consideration for YouTube Premium, is written by Adam and Max Reid (Sneaky Pete) and will be executive produced by Ben Stiller and Nicky Weinstock via their Red Hour Productions banner. eOne serves as the studio.
Dark Cargo is described as a high-octane, cliffhanger-driven, neo-noir thriller set in the big rig cab of Joe Dobbs as he traverses the darkest nights of his life. What begins as a random encounter with a disturbed stranger turns into a race against time, the police, and even more malevolent forces. All the while, Joe just wants to get back to his family.
Dark Cargo joins two other pilots at YouTube, comedies The Edge of Seventeen, based on the critically praised film of the same name, and It’s a Man’s World.

The heroes of explosive action-espionage thrillers tend to be men of few words, but Mark Wahlberg breaks the pattern in “Mile 22,” a broken-limb, flying-glass dirty-ops spectacular. He plays Jimmy Silva, a walking lethal weapon who leads a U.S. intelligence squad so elite and undercover and ultra-badass that it has severed all legal connection to the government.
Jimmy, a hard-bitten agent and assassin, never misses the chance to toss off some rapid-fire jabber about history, violence, nuclear weapons, his trio of ex-wives — you name it. If you listen to his words, he’s actually rather philosophical (for a quasi-sociopathic government killer), and the fact that he comes off as someone badgering people on an amphetamine jag isn’t necessarily a strike against him. It’s just a sign that he cares. We see a home-movie montage of his childhood — hyperactivity! violence! orphaned at the age of 11! — and the question...

A veteran music supervisor for television and movies, Jennifer Pyken landed her first Emmy nomination for her work on NBC’s “This Is Us.” This native New Yorker-turned-Valley Girl started out as an Island Records intern and continues to showcase her diverse musical range with the Netflix teen comedy, “The Package,” which bowed Aug. 10.
This is only the second year that music supervisors have even been eligible for Emmys. Why do you think it took so long to receive recognition?
People sometimes think of music as an afterthought — but it’s so important. Our guild is fairly new: It’s six years old. So we had to go and explain to them what we do and how much we put into the show and what the process is. And by doing that, they were able to get that as a new category. It took a little bit of work.
