How it goes sometimes...
songod-9500324 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I think a lot of the negative reviews here stem from Billy not stopping the bad people. That in the end, the corrupt candidate becomes the winner and the drug kingpin is free to operate. The bad people win in this world.

What I did not like was that it was never made clear why convicting the kid was so darn important. Event the corrupt cop said he had someone willing to take the fall for the crime. So why the kid? And over the killing of a wannabe that wasn't in a gang and did not know "the code"so higher ups were afraid would talk if ever arrested?? What did he know?? Nothing. He was a really low level runner so...? He did not even know the bigger players in the scheme! Why the big issue?? The foundation of the entire season was shaky just based on that.

Otherwise I give this all a five due to the acting. Great casting! Too bad the writing let it all down.

Wow. Bad.

Just like the rest of season 2 I was waiting for the finale to get better. It never did. Such a shame because season 1 was amazing.

A set up for season 3
stevens-7231318 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This time David (Billy and his team) was defeated by Goliath supposedly to fight another day. The problem I have with have the finale as a lead into what season 3 might hold is Billy isn't the healthiest of characters so how much longer can he survive with his lifestyle of coffee for breakfast, chain smoke all day, skip lunch and booze for dinner. Why have they changed the format of season 1 when that as a whole worked? Please don't make season 3 about taking down a cartel family, other shows have been there already. After the excellent start and middle of this season it's ended on a damp squib

"Hey, Stranger!"
lavatch28 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The mood of the final episode is somber and melancholy throughout the program. A central geographical reference point is Billy waiting at the Griffith Observatory and reflecting on his relationship with Marisol.

A key arrest is made with Pete "the Broker" Oakland, who rats on Tom Wyatt. Wyatt in turn is arrested, not by the police, but by Gabriel's efficient squad. The surgeon Gabriel will go to work on Tom, removing hands, legs, and tongue in the manner of Dante's contrapposto. This could have been Brittany's fate if it were not for Patty, who saved her from Tom. They both could have been tongue tied.

Denise is arrested for a DUI and let off the hook due to Billy. Elena decides not to join forces with Billy and burns the physical evidence of a yearbook picture of little Claudia Quintera. Sister Maria Isabella has been replaced at the convent. The entire Rosarita estate of Gabriel has been cleaned out and replaced by a set of his "actors" who deny knowledge of him.

At the Griffith Observatory, Billy greets Marisol with the friendly salutation, "Hey, Stranger!" But to add insult to injury, the arrogant Marisol informs Billy that she never loved him. As they gaze over the lights of Los Angeles, Billy tells Marisol: "It is all yours."

When Denise and Billy look out into the Pacific in the closing scene, Marisol and her adoptive brother Gabriel seem to have the entire future of Los Angeles in their grasp.

OK... THIS JUST HAPPENED
mbrizvii8 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I have been a big fan of Goliath but honestly giving one good season does not mean you can fool your audience and sell them patch work of your redundant thoughts

The whole season did not make sense. AT all. Lets start from the beginning

a) What was the role of the white kid?

B) Where was any story development of the suarez family?

C) What kind of lawyer just goes away on the most important weekend of his client's life d) Does police protection and court granted immunity mean nothing? Is cartel all and mighty?

E) Was anyone supposed to stay alive in this show?

F) How is a teenage girl living alone in that big house while the whole cartel wants to hurt billy?

G) Why are people who are shooting billy not checking if he is really dead?

H) How did gabriel actually distribute drugs?

I) What made billy think he can just go back to same place he was conspired to kill and HOW DID HE MAKE IT BACK ALIVE

AND MY BIGGEST FRUSTRATION, WHAT WAS SHOWN IN THE LAST EPISODE. LIKE REALLY. No acting, no story. TOTAL WASTE OF TIME.

Writers got lazy
CMac201824 June 2018
Very disappointing. It's like they couldn't figure how to wrap it up so let's just make it gruesome.

Are you kidding?

Warning: Spoilers
Things I learned: When being chased by the cartel in Mexico, make sure your lady wears a bright red shiny dress. After shooting a heavily armed cartel member in the head, leave his weapon and proceed using your handgun containing an unknown number of bullets. Want rid of your lady friend in a crowd in Mexico? Just pawn her off to a couple of guys in the crowd. Extra points if she's covered in blood. When being shot at by cartel members, just fall into some tall brush. They never check to see if you're actually dead. Don't trust a cartel bigwig who's into surgery for a hobby. But best of all, when you know the newly elected mayor of LA is a fraud, DO NOT TELL ANYONE. Newspapers are not interested in that stuff. Just keep it to yourself so you can have a season 3

A REAL WORLD ENDING
KnewItAll16 August 2018
The ending of Goliath was as much as could be expected in the world we live in. Politics, corruption and crime does go on and on. I think the ending was real and appropriate. Others may have been looking for that good old feeling of proper justice applied and were disappointed. Well....it wasn't a blockbuster season ending but probably seeds some of the plot for season 3. I will be watching for it.

It's really not bad, it may feel a little too convenient.
magicsage23 October 2019
I saw so many 1 star ratings for this finale that I felt obliged to write a short rebuttal. It's nothing spectacular, but it's certainly not the worst thing I've ever watched. It felt a little rushed, but that's ok. No show can have perfect 10s for ratings. It was acceptable. All in all Goliath is a very good, highly enjoyable series that i hope continues far beyond season 3.

One of the worst season finales in the history of television
arcang719 June 2018
There are bad season finales, and then there's the season finale of Goliath, Season 2. A lazy, poorly paced, ludicrous, unsatisfying, garbage heap of an episode. It completed the downward arc of Goliath Season 2 in general. Such bad writing. Great acting and directing wasted on a terrible story that basically felt like the worst season of Dexter ever written instead of Goliath.

Not sure why this being slated so badly.
sam-munro-1007 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
From my perspective, I feel like this particular finale has been slated simply because it wasn't a "happy" ending, because Billy didn't win which in all honesty is quite sad.

I personally commend the writers for taking a different approach and not having him win all the time, sure I understand the major element of a show like this is seeing the ball bounce back and forth across the court and see how Billy inevitable outplays his opponent, but the writers decide to take a different approach and offer something fresh & it gets slated, do you people always want to know what the overall outcome is from every TV show?

Of course not it would get boring & predictable like 99% of Tv shows out there, I do understand how if you were hoping for some slam dunk finale then I little bit of salt could be thrown around, but nothing to merit this 1/10 reviews.

Regardless of this I honestly felt like the writers and the actors did a good job portraying the events that unfolded and the elusiveness of Gabriel & his connection to Maria, it was a nice backstory & who knows if there is a season three Billy may very well come back & put them in there place.

Tongue Tied
bobcobb3019 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
There were some good one liners from Billy and some funny and crazy scenes throughout, but this is not how you end a season.

If you want to have Claudia and Gabriel "win" I am fine with that, but the final straw should have been them killing an associate. Tom got killed off too early. We just had Billy and Marisol talking with no impact, no recording and no real drama.

There were worse finales certainly, but this ruined a solid season.

Did someone forget to write the final episode?
glovermichael-8891829 June 2018
Wow this is possibly the worst season finale I've ever seen. Honestly felt like I could have fallen asleep and wouldn't have missed anything. I thought the entire season was incredible (even the seemingly mostly disliked penultimate episode I thought was great, though with some weird moments). But then I can't believe this final episode made it past editing without somebody realising how inane and pointless it is. I was waiting for some kind of twist, plot turn or satisfactory tying up of lose ends, but nothing. It's as if they just spent an episode saying "that's it... no, really... that's it, there's nothing else". Lazy, lazy ending to what I thought was an excellent season up until that point.

The writing of this thing is literally under the sea level. Looking out the window is magnitudes of times more entertaining and smart. I watched the last two episodes on 1.25 speed and it's still slower than watching the grass grow.

This rating is for the season as a whole..
joshbernardy137 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So, as some have already stated: there's way too many plot holes in this season to take it seriously. I just came across "Goliath" and absolutely loved the first season! The second, not so much..

It started out okay but progressively got worse and worse. What was with the "amputee fetish" dude? That's just weird, gross, and unnecessary. But I guess the writers have to have a 'freak' in every season (Maybe)?

Whatever the case, I actually didn't mind the ending. I'm fine with the bad guys getting away with it from time to time. Makes a show a little less predictable.

Anyhoo, the 6 stars are mainly due to the great acting of Billybob Thornton and Nina Arianda.

Here's to hoping season 3 does better in the plot department.

Disappointing
jlroodt20 June 2018
This is an unfortunate and sadly very disappointing ending to Series 2. The viewer will ultimately feel cheated for watching the entire series.

Many of the characters end up with unbelievable and rather ridiculous fates.

tg597219520 June 2018
The season-2 finale, gratuitous in most respects, concludes with the equivalent of a gratuitous shrug on the part of the writers.

Disappointed??? See season 3
wjohnson63-616-65125230 December 2019
Season 2 ended the way that it did because season 3 ties into it. All 3 seasons are referenced in season 3, so I have a feeling that everything comes together in season 4. Not wise to stop watching after season 2.

WTF?!?!

Season 2 started nicely with several top notch episodes but quickly went off the rails. The last two episodes were just stupifyingly inane. Very disappointing after such a great first season.

Very Dissapointing
dolovacvanjica26 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I don't mind this season having a completely different tone compared to the first one. I don't even mind "the bad guys" winning. However, I do mind being treated with a totally implausible sequence of events and unnecessary deaths just for the shock effect (murder of detective Roman's children, for example). It simply does not work! Not even as a build up for the 3rd season. Really fine acting for the most part, but not enough to save the season.

Lazy, Pointless ending

The ending felt unfinished... Can this crappy scene really be the end of an otherwise good storyline?! A waste of time to watch season 2 unless there's a second part coming.

Not everything has a happy ending
tlskate17 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Personally, I liked this ending much better than that of season 1. Much more plausible. I thought the season 1 ending was b*******. He shouldn't have won that case. This, on the other hand, has some realism to it, comic book villains aside. I do agree with the reviewer who pointed out that it was never made clear exactly why Julio was so important. They dropped the ball on that one.
