Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has launched development on What Kids Want, a new feature scripted by the Like a Boss duo of Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly, sources tell Deadline.
The film follows up the high concept comedies What Women Want (2000), starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt, and What Men Want (2019), starring Taraji P. Henson and Tracy Morgan, both of which were distributed by Paramount. While the former centered on a man suddenly gifted (or cursed?) with the ability to hear the thoughts of women, the latter reversed the equation. The new film will, of course, involve a look into the minds of children.
Todd Garner will produce for Broken Road Productions, alongside Gina Mathews and Grant Scharbo for Little Engine Entertainmemt. Matthews comes to the project after producing What Women Want, along with such rom-coms as 13 Going on 30, All My Life (alongside Garner) and Isn’t It Romantic?...

The televised roast is one of the most unique and controversial forms of comedy the American entertainment industry has helped popularize. For decades now, public figures from all walks of life have willingly sat in front of an audience of their peers and the general public and allowed seasoned comics to mercilessly mock various aspects of their lives and careers.
The latest public figure to join this tradition is football legend Tom Brady. The star NFL athlete was the subject of a roast by a set of comics led by Kevin Hart and Jeff Ross. Unfortunately, aspects of the roast are said to have disappointed Brady’s ex-wife Gisele Bündchen. The popular supermodel is said to feel that the way the roast played out once again proved that Brady cares more about his career than their time together.

Zorro and Expats are the big shows coming to Prime Video in January. The former is what Amazon are calling a “bold reinterpretation” of the classic hero El Zorro for 2024. Starring Miguel Bernardeau as Diego de la Vega and Renata Notni as Lolita Marquez, it’s definitely an intriguing-sounding action-adventure series, with a ten-episode first season based on the iconic character originally created by Johnston McCulley all the way back in 1919.
Meanwhile, upcoming drama series Expats is based on the bestselling 2016 novel The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee, and follows “the vibrant lives of a close-knit expatriate community” in Hong Kong. Nicole Kidman has been known for picking the right kind of shows to lead in the past, so let’s hope this is another banger for the actress, who is also on board as an executive producer here.
Here’s everything coming to Amazon Prime Video and Freevee this month.

In the 26th episode of Deadline Strike Talk — which for below the liners signifies half a year without a paycheck that hasn’t come from Uber fares or waiting tables — host Billy Ray hits on a zeitgeist theme that gets voiced a lot by people who just feel that the business isn’t as remotely as exciting or near as much fun as it was before the folly that signatories put themselves into by chasing Netflix as it became the preeminent streamer. The result has put just about every other streamer pursuit in a position of being money losers that have strained the economics, and accelerated the demise of those conglomerates’ traditional networks, and so many other things.

Billy Porter and his husband of six years, Adam Smith, have decided to end their marriage.
Porter’s representative confirmed their divorce and said that the men have asked for “privacy” while dealing with the logistics.
Their split was “amicable” and there is no bad blood between the two. He additionally added that neither will comment on the divorce publicly.
The couple first met back in 2009 while at a dinner party and dated for a year before breaking up. Five years later, they decided to get back together and tied the knot on January 14, 2017, just 16 days after Porter proposed in London.
The couple said at the time that they chose to get married so quickly because they wanted to get married while Barack Obama was still president. They had a small and intimate wedding in Manhattan with about 45 guests.

Exclusive: Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm, a rising writer-producer coming to television from the world of theater, has signed with Artists First for management.
Chisholm most recently created, exec produced and served as co-showrunner for AMC’s comedic sci-fi series Demascus, produced by Gran Via. While his original pilot was picked up to series and shot its entire first season, it was one of a number of projects axed at the network amid a push for cost-cutting.
The show, which recently screened in part at SXSW, was set to follow a 33-year-old Black man of the same name on a mission of self-discovery amid the burgeoning field of digital psychiatry that might be the key to defining his truest self. It’s been described as a genre-fluid coming-of-age story with a reality-bending premise that explores the gulf between Black male perspectives, while also attempting to answer Demascus’ personal question: “Who am I?...

There's no denying that Salma Hayek Pinault is something of a movie star. With roles in incontestably huge films — like Marvel's "Eternals" and, more recently, "Puss In Boots: The Last Wish" — she's enjoyed a varied Hollywood career. But there was a time when the actor's success was far from guaranteed: though she was a bona fide soap opera star when she made the trek from Mexico to the U.S., so much of her innate talent was lost in translation. "I came here thinking I spoke English," Pinault told Oprah in 2003. "Then I came here and realized how truly limited my English was, and it was very scary."
Becoming fluent was nearly "impossible" for Pinault — and once she did overcome the language barrier and her own struggles with dyslexia, there was still the matter of her accent. Pinault was consistently typecast in the early days of her career, either as "the bombshell" or "the help.

Salma Hayek began her career appearing in television shows in her native Mexico. Today, she stars in Hollywood blockbusters and has established herself as an A-list actor and international superstar.
In 2009, she married French billionaire François-Henri Pinault and they have one daughter, Valentina, together. The family also has some luxury properties where they reside including a stunning 14-bedroom property in London. The only problem is that it’s haunted, according to Hayek and Valentina. Here’s a look inside the property and what strange things have gone on there.

Salma Hayek Pinault Was Told She Was Too 'Sexy' For Comedy Until Adam Sandler's Grown Ups Came Along
As a producer, Adam Sandler has always managed to attract an impressive litany of talent. Although the films released through Sandler's studio, Happy Madison, regularly get terrible reviews, they tend to be very lucrative and high-profile actors keep coming back for more work. This may be because, as the rumor mill has it, Sandler is a relentlessly decent and kind human being that others love to work with. As such, Al Pacino can be seen in "Jack and Jill," Susan Sarandon appeared in "That's My Boy," and the likes of Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Aniston, and Winona Ryder have all played Sandler's wife or love interest in his movies.
In Dennis Dugan's 2010 film "Grown Ups," Salma Hayek Pinault plays Roxanne, a successful fashion designer, and the wife of a talent agent named Lenny (Sandler). "Grown Ups" is about how Lenny is still very close with the circle of...

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent! Starring Nicolas Cage as Nick Cage!
I went into this movie knowing nothing more about it than that. And I was vindicated in my advance presumption that pretty much everything you need to know about it is encapsulated in that summation. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Much of your own personal assessment of that will depend, I suspect, upon what you think of Nicolas Cage as an actor and entertainer. And what you think of the current rather sorry state of American movies.
Our reactions to movies, of course, are never not about all the baggage we bring with us into the cinema (or however you watch a film), but that is amplified here. I am a big fan of Cage’s work when he is allowed to be honest and sincere; his performance in last year’s anti-revenge drama Pig may be his finest,...

Wee-hee! Industry veteran Jennifer Coolidge has finally earned her first-ever nomination from the Screen Actors Guild Awards for her memorable performance in the HBO anthology series “The White Lotus.” Her humorous yet oddly poignant turn as Tanya McQuoid, a woman looking to spread her mother’s ashes while vacationing at a luxury resort, resulted in some of the best reviews of Coolidge’s career. Could this goodwill lead to a SAG victory on her maiden nomination?
If it does, it won’t necessarily be easy. Coolidge faces some stiff competition in her SAG category, Best Actress in a Television Movie or Limited Series, and she’ll face off against a mix of fellow first-time nominees and industry favorites. Also earning her first individual recognition this year is Margaret Qualley for the buzzy Netflix series “Maid.” Jean Smart is also here, but for HBO’s “Mare of Easttown.” Smart had only...

“Nothing can ruin this night.” That’s the hope, at least, at the outset of the first teaser-trailer for Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s new murder-mystery series, “The Afterparty.”
Per Apple TV+, “The Afterparty” is a comedic whodunit set at a high school reunion. Each of the eight episodes features a retelling of the same night through a different character’s perspective, each with its own unique visual style and film genre to match the teller’s personality.
The all-star cast includes Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Ben Schwartz, Ike Barinholtz, Ilana Glazer (“Broad City”), Jamie Demetriou, Dave Franco and John Early (“Search Party”).
The first trailer certainly sets the tone with Ini Kamoze’s “Here Comes the Hotstepper” and Dave Franco taking a mysterious swan dive off a cliff. Haddish looks to be our Hercule Poirot/Benoit Blanc, the popcorn-eating detective determined to suss out what makes...

LGBTQ characters appeared in a higher percentage of films in 2020 than ever before, according to a new study from GLAAD. The study also found more of those characters were people of color, and more of them than ever had a substantial amount of screen time.
GLAAD’s annual Studio Responsibility Index found that of 44 films from eight major studios released throughout 2020, 10 of them, or 22.7%, had characters who identified as gay, lesbian, bisexual or queer. That percentage is up from 2019, in which only 18.6% had LGBTQ characters.
But for the fourth year in a row, GLAAD found that transgender characters and non-binary characters were completely absent from major studio theatrical releases, with the organization saying that the film industry greatly lags behind TV when it comes to representation in this regard.

Tiffany Haddish will play the fastest woman in the world.
The “Girls Trip” actress will star as Florence Griffith Joyner, known as “Flo-Jo” to her fans, who helped popularize track and field with her record-breaking Olympic run and flashy personality and style (she originated the “one-legger” look with her running suits). Many of the records that Joyner set in the 1988 Olympics, including those in the 100 m and 200 m, have yet to be broken. Joyner died in 1998 at the age of 38 of an epileptic seizure.
Haddish will produce the film, as well. A release announcing the project says that Joyner was one of Haddish’s heroes growing up.
Game1 Co-CEO’s Basil Iwanyk and Greg Economou will also serve as producers on this film. In addition, Flo-Jo’s widower and former coach, Al Joyner, will serve as a producer and creative consultant on the project. Additionally, he has already begun training Haddish to play the role,...

Temporary production shutdowns have become the norm while filming during the pandemic, and TV studios, including Disney TV Studios’ 20th Television, which is behind The Chi, all have rigorous protocols and procedures in place that have proven effective as TV sets have remained safe even when the country was in the grips of a major third wave of infection this past winter.
Showtime this past week set a May 23 premiere date for Season 4 of The Chi, which shoots in Chicago.
Created and executive produced by Emmy winner Lena Waithe, The Chi is a coming-of-age drama, centered on a group of residents on Chicago’s South Side who bond deeply, after connecting by coincidence.

Twenty-five years ago, “Yes Day” would have been a dumbed-down high-concept Hollywood family comedy, and you could say it still is. The difference is that now it’s the Netflix version, which means, in this case, that it’s not so much “dumb” as post-psychological. The premise, for anyone who’s a parent, will sound rather catchy. Allison (Jennifer Garner), taken to task by her three children for being a Debbie Downer of a mom — a joyless disciplinarian who’s perpetually saying “No” — agrees to indulge her kids in a Yes Day. That is, for an entire day, she and her husband, the genial Carlos (Edgar Ramirez), will have to say yes to any request, big or small, that the kids make. “No, you can’t do that” isn’t on the table. The idea is that this will act as a kind of do-what-you-please purge for the children — a...

In real life, a “yes day” is a recently codified parenting technique where desperate moms and dads bait their kids towards good behavior by rewarding them with a 24-hour period in which the parents can’t say “no” to any of their kids’ requests. Candy for dinner? Sure. Wearing Peppa Pig cosplay to the park? If that’s what they want. Helping a local bear recover the stolen pop-up book he wants to give to his aunt for her birthday? As long as no one gets arrested that sounds just fine.
In Netflix’s “Yes Day,” (cast against type in the role of a fun-loving lawyer dad who twerks within the first 10 minutes ), a “yes day” is basically the Purge for kids. Of course it starts on an innocent note, with the youngest of Allison and Carlos Torres’ three kids forcing her parents to dress up as glitter-spackled superheroes for...

Update 2/25: Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw and Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films have issued a statement about the end of The Twilight Zone series.
We greatly enjoyed our time working on The Twilight Zone — particularly when the real world around us often felt more and more like another dimension. We cherished the opportunity to collaborate with so many talented writers, actors and crewmembers. After 20 unique episodes, we have told the stories that we wanted to tell, and CBS All Access was gracious in their understanding of our decision. It was an honor and a privilege to bring audiences a modern re-imagining of Rod Serling’s iconic creation.

"See, I'm not always a 'fun-killer!'" Netflix has debuted an official trailer for the family comedy Yes Day, from director Miguel Arteta. This is what happens when you finally say "yes" to your kids instead of "no" all the time. Always feeling like they have to say No to their kids and co-workers, Allison and Carlos decide to give their three kids a "Yes Day" -- where for 24 hours the kids make the rules. Little did they know that they'd be going on a whirlwind adventure around Los Angeles, that would bring the family closer to each other than ever before. Oh I don't know, that sounds exactly like what I expect from this let's-go-wild plot. Starring Jennifer Garner, Edgar Ramírez, Jenna Ortega, Julian Lerner, and Everly Carganilla.
