Though the many big, small and no-screen adaptations of Jrr Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings and associated tomes, footnotes and apocrypha have offered portrayals of a wide variety of characters for fans to relish/debate, one has been notably absent. Well, fret no more, Tom Bombadil hive, because the all-singing, magic-slinging master of the yellow boots will finally get his due in the form of Rory Kinnear on The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Season 2.

Matt Smith is one of the most prominent actors on the cast of House Of The Dragon, a Game of Thrones spinoff set in the Seven Kingdoms. He is known to series lovers as the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who and as Prince Philip in Netflix’s The Crown. Smith initially had some doubts about playing Daemon Targaryen in the spinoff series as it came soon after the finale season of Game of Thrones.

Smith was concerned that audiences were already familiar with the story of House of the Dragon. He came to understand that the spinoff series was independent of its predecessor and told things on a bigger scale. The second season of the series will focus on the much anticipated Targaryen Civil War between Rhaenyra’s team black and Alicent’s team green.

Not that long ago, we confirmed that Peter Jackson was indeed coming back to The Lord of the Rings franchise, but as a producer, and that a new movie had been confirmed for a 2026 release. The movie was soon revealed to be The Hunt for Gollum, and we also received confirmation that Andy Serkis would be coming back to the role that made him famous, but that he would also be directing the movie as well. This is all part of a larger plan to revitalize The Lord of the Rings cinematic franchise and expand upon the original movies directed by Jackson.
So, a return to Middle-earth is imminent and we cannot wait for the movie to come out, but since we still have a long way to go, we don’t have too much information at this point. But, while nothing has been confirmed, one actor from Jackson’s...

“Fallout 76” has found a whole new world of players thanks to the popularity of Amazon’s “Fallout” TV series. The Bethesda Game Studios title, which first launched in October 2018, crossed 20 million downloads and plays as of Wednesday.
That is a jump from the 17 million players “Fallout 76” had totaled in December, ahead of the April 10 release of Jonathan Nolan’s “Fallout” TV adaptation on Prime Video.
“It’s kind of been sneaky popular for a while — but not to this level and it’s just been really great for the for the whole studio,” Bethesda director and executive producer Todd Howard, who oversees the “Fallout” franchise, told Variety.
In the under two months since the series premiered (and has already been picked up for a second season), daily active users across the “Fallout” video game franchise titles developed and published by Bethesda, a division of Microsoft Gaming, have ballooned over 600% to more than 5 million players.

We know that Aragorn does not fear death, but does Viggo Mortensen fear returning to the role? Not one bit. With the announcement that another Lord of the Rings movie – in the form of The Hunt for Gollum – will be making that long trek to theaters, it’s hard not to wonder which of the original cast (other than Andy Serkis) will be returning for the film. With so little truly known about the film, there’s no reason not to imagine which of our fan favorite characters could have a spot. And if Viggo Mortensen has a say, he and Aragorn will wield Andúril yet again.
Speaking with British GQ, Viggo Mortensen admitted that he doesn’t know what’s planned for The Hunt for Gollum but is willing to return as Aragorn if it serves a purpose. “I don’t know exactly what the story is, I haven’t heard.

After being excluded from both the classic 1978 animated movie and Peter Jackson's critically acclaimed trilogy, The Lord of the Rings will finally put the spotlight on Tom Bombadil in live-action when The Rings of Power returns for season 2 on August 29.
He first appeared in J. R. R. Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring, helping save Merry and Pippin from Old Man Willow, an angry tree in the Old Forest, that swallows them. In this series, we'll meet a younger version of "Old Tom" who has left Withywindle behind to make a second home in the ravaged Rhûn.
"There’s a reason why he hasn’t been in prior adaptations, because in some ways he’s sort of an anti-dramatic character," showrunner J.D. Payne tells Vanity Fair (via SFFGazette.com). "He’s not a character who has a particularly strong agenda. He observes drama, but largely doesn’t participate in it.

Viggo Mortensen needed just the right sword. Then he realized he had the perfect one at home.
Mortensen’s latest film is The Dead Don’t Hurt, a Western set in the 1860s that follows free-spirited Vivienne (Vicky Krieps), a Franco-Canadian who falls in love with Holger (Mortensen), a Danish rancher. When Holger goes off to fight in the American Civil War, Vivienne is left alone to fight in her own war at home.
Mortensen spoke to British GQ to discuss his new film. It was mentioned that in one fantasy sequence, you can see what looks like his sword, Andúril, from Lord of the Rings.
“We had everything for this sequence with a knight. We had found this great, spirited horse, the right kind of saddle, and we made a medieval kind of blanket, and we had the costume for the knight,” Mortensen said. “Everything was right, and then I said,...

Viggo Mortensen revealed in an interview with GQ UK magazine that he used Aragorn’s iconic sword Andúril from “Lord of the Rings” in his latest movie, “The Dead Don’t Hurt.” Mortensen wrote and directed the 19th century Western, in which he stars as a Danish immigrant separated from his love (Vicky Krieps) during the Civil War.
For one fantasy sequence in the film, Mortensen asked his “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson if he had his permission to use Aragorn’s sword again on screen. Mortensen played the character in Jackson’s original “Rings” trilogy and kept the sword after production wrapped.

Big news just dropped over at Vanity Fair: a first look at a character set to appear in The Rings of Power season 2 who has to date only made it into a few older radio versions, games, and foreign-language adaptations of The Lord of the Rings—Tom Bombadil, played by Rory Kinnear. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two made numerous headlines by becoming the highest-grossing film of the year, thus far. While the performances were brilliant, the film’s technical department also attracted immense praise. One of the standout aspects of the film is its breathtaking makeup.
Renowned makeup artist Donald Mowat worked in the makeup department in both parts of Dune. Mowat also secured an Oscar nomination for his work in the 2021 film. Interestingly, the Dune films could have never achieved such make-up work, had the makeup artist not left another major project.

Viggo Mortensen is a legendary actor, from his Oscar-nominated turns in Eastern Promises, Captain Fantastic, and Green Book to his iconic role as Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. However, some may not realize that Mortensen is just as talented behind the camera as he is in front of it.
Mortensen’s sophomore feature as a director, The Dead Don’t Hurt, debuted at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews. While Mortensen did get to promote The Dead Don’t Hurt at the premiere despite the then-ongoing strikes thanks to a SAG waiver, he’s getting more of a chance to talk about his feminist Western now as we near its U.S. release.
We at FandomWire got the opportunity to discuss The Dead Don’t Hurt with the one and only Viggo Mortensen, talking about its fusion of the genre’s grammar with a unique vision.

Whether you like it or not, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a hit series. Amazon managed to create a series that was both controversial and popular at the same time, so the series was expectedly renewed for a second season, whose eight episodes have been confirmed for a 2024 release. Recently, an official trailer for the second season has been released, confirming that the series would premiere on August 29, 2024. But, aside from that, the trailer managed to draw out a series of reactions, mostly negative ones, which indicates that the fans aren’t giving up on letting everyone know how much they dislike the show.
As ScreenGeek reports, the trailer has received a total of 527,000 in the first 10 days since its premiere, with only around 96,000 likes, which is a very big difference, but it shows that the trend of bombing the series continues.

Christopher and Jonathan Nolan aka the Nolan brothers have been an integral part of the movie industry for many years now. A director and a writer, they created 2008’s iconic The Dark Knight together, among other things — and according to Jonathan Nolan, it was that experience of working with his brother that helped him adapt Fallout. Otherwise, Prime Video’s latest sensation wouldn’t have existed now.
Fallout Creator Is Cautious with Big Franchises
At an FYC screening of Fallout’s first episode, Christopher Nolan interviewed his brother Jonathan about the new TV show.
He asked about his brother’s approach to adapting a massive and well-established franchise, specifically, a video game one, to small screens, and the writer admitted he was very self-conscious with it.
“There is room to do some writing in there. I think there’s always extraordinary respect for the Harry Potter films, for Lord of the Rings films…...

As the driving force behind a blockbuster franchise, Peter Jackson has not only secured a place among some of the most celebrated filmmakers in the industry, but has also made quite a fortune for himself. His journey to Tinseltown has been nothing short of extraordinary, and began with an early start in New Zealand, with multiple short films and cult classics like Bad Taste.

However, his filmmaking journey truly commenced with a 16 mm camera with his two years of savings, which has since transformed into a fortune that now surpasses the combined wealth of two Hollywood giants, Martin Scorsese and James Cameron.
Peter Jackson Reflected on His Humble Beginnings
Peter Jackson’s initial fascination with the world of cinema began with the TV series Thunderbirds and the 1933 film King Kong, which led him to experiment with his family’s home camera and stop-motion animation technique.

It is that time of the month again when veteran writer George R. R. Martin adds a little more delay in writing The Winds of Winter by updating his blog. Although we do love to hear from him, it seems that The Winds of Winter is taking quite a long time.

The mysterious man who streaked through the sky like a fiery bolt and fell upon the ancestors of the Hobbits is simply referred to as The Stranger in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power credits. Immediately after his appearance, fans decided that the creators of the show were trying to introduce Gandalf into the story as a kind of fan service.
The appearance of this character literally screams that this is one of the Istari. Moreover, Tolkien's texts mention that the Istari had to learn a lot again after they acquired flesh bodies – this might explain The Stranger's temporary amnesia.
Why Could The Stranger Be Gandalf?

Jonathan Nolan has certainly begun to make a name for himself in the mainstream media. While he has made many worthwhile and critically acclaimed projects over the years, none have managed to get as much attention as the recently released, Fallout. When the adaptation of the iconic video game was originally announced, fans were naturally very nervous. However, since its release, all its reviews have been nothing but positive.
Jonathan Nolan [Credit: Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast]Knowing how well he has been able to contribute to making sure the adaptation was just as accurate as it was entertaining, it would not be surprising that more retellings are coming his way. However, it would seem that there are two franchises Nolan refuses to take part in.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two, which released this year, boasted an incredible cinematic experience for the audiences. One of the primary highlights of the Dune franchise has been the Sandworms. The colossal spice-producing worms on the planet of Arrakis were hauntingly beautiful and provided an exceptional theater experience.
One might think that the sandworm must be the toughest part of the franchise based on Frank Herbert’s works. However, the mastermind behind both the Dune films, Villeneuve has claimed that the Desert Mouse was no cakewalk as well.

All kidding aside, summer is bearing down upon us, and that means unbearable, scorching hot temperatures. (Thanks global warming!) So, what better way to burn though your free time than by plopping yourself down in an air-conditioned theater and checking out the latest releases? After a relatively slow start to the year, June looks to turn things up a notch with some notable tentpoles. Tragically, however, you can't spend all of your non-working hours at the multiplex -- not even for the "Lord of the Rings" re-release.

In J.R.R. Tolkien's 1937 adventure novel "The Hobbit, or There and Back Again," Bilbo Baggins and his merry band of stern dwarf friends are apprehended by a marauding group of wicked goblins and dragged into their dank underground lair. The lead dwarf, Thorin Oakenshield, is targeted as a particular threat by the Goblin King as he is carrying a unique sword called Orcrist, the Goblin-Cleaver. Orcrist, according to Tolkien's lore, was forged millennia ago by expert elf swordsmiths, and passed down through generations. It is a magic sword that glows when orcs are nearby, warning its wielder of danger. Later in "The Hobbit," Thorin would lose Orcrist when he was captured by the Wood-elves of Mirkwood -- though it was eventually returned to him.
