Tiles sales firm heir Dirk's son Tristan Devriendt is a promising last year med student, who dreams of one of the rare spots in the specialization neuro-surgery, which requires getting noticed by untouchable 'god' professor and chef Mercier. One of usually two spots a year already being promised to Asian workaholic Cathy, Tristan doesn't rely on teaching assistant Dr. Marcel Vanderjeugdt but starts an affair, on top of his serial student and other girls conquests, with the senior admission nurse to be tipped off. Tristan thinks little about his nosebleeds, even after fainting and hospitalization during a rugby match, an ideal excuse to wriggle out of stuffy family obligations. But when he's finally called to assist Mercier at an emergency surgery, and does well, another nose bleed makes the professor examine his head scan and diagnose a serous brain tumor risk.

After working up the courage to tell family and friends about his tumor, Tristan finds most sympathetic, even a bit too much, especially his mother. He also finds the strength, during exhausting radiation therapy, to flirt with the nurse and continue his internship, but a rival for the neurosurgery spot spreads a rumor that his condition goes downhill, which snowballs into declaring him dying. Worse, although the therapy looks promising, he's denied an actual shot at the spot due to his medical condition. Meanwhile his father Dirk lets his wife throw him out of their home because he's 'more obsessed with the tiles firm then the family' and attempts a grand dinner gesture, only to ruin it by dedicating a perfect tile design to her by naming it Myriam. As therapy wears down Tristan's immune system, his rugby team can't ignore his slipping field performance, so after painful incidents he's convinced by his mates to became the Gladiators' first-ever coach.
