Nearly a decade ago, Oscar-winning cinematographer Greig Fraser was hanging out at one of Roger and James Deakins’ famous barbecues when he was introduced to a French-Canadian man he didn’t immediately recognize. But as soon as he put a face to the name “Denis Villeneuve,” he instantly called to mind two of the filmmaker’s critically acclaimed Canadian films, Polytechnique (2009) and Incendies (2010), as well as his American debut, Prisoners (2013), that he shot with the co-host of that day’s festivities, Roger Deakins. So Fraser and Villeneuve got to know each other that day, before going their separate ways for a few years.
During the intervening time period, Fraser photographed a handful of projects including the first Star Wars spinoff film, Rogue One (2016), as well as the first live-action Star Wars series in The Mandalorian. And then, in 2018, Villeneuve reached out regarding the Dp position on his forthcoming adaptation of...

For quite some time now, plenty of big titles have been underperforming with people practically being a bit sick of the constant reboots, and re-adaptations of the material that no one asked for.
One trend however is clear. The TV industry is increasingly embracing blockbuster-style content. While video game IPs are thriving, other subgenres are also demonstrating strength. However, success in streaming appears to hinge on the use of fresh IP to launch new franchises, although there are some considerations to bear in mind.
Variety presented us with new streaming data for major streaming services and some titles have truly surprised us.
Percy Jackson is an absolute winner when it comes to original series viewership despite technically being a reboot, I guess enough time has passed from the poorly received adaptations from the past and viewers were eager to see a different take on the matter.
Following ‘Percy Jackson,’ we have MCU’s ‘Echo.

While video game IPs continue to flourish, other subgenres are also proving strong. Nonetheless, success in streaming seems reliant on introducing fresh intellectual properties to initiate new franchises, albeit with some important factors to consider.

Cameras have been rolling on The Last of Us season 2 for a while now, and we finally have some semi-decent set photos. These offer fans a first look at Bella Ramsey's Ellie with her girlfriend, Dina (played by Madame Web and Superman star Isabela Merced).
We're going to tread carefully here for fear of spoilers, but those of you who have played The Last of Us Part II video game will likely be able to figure out where in the season this sequence likely takes place.
As you can see below, Ellie and Dina are on horseback and outside the Weston's Pharmacy building.
While some fans have argued that Ramsey still looks too young, she's now 20 and it's been close to two years since shooting wrapped on season 1. These episodes will provide Ramsey with a lot of heavy material to seek her teeth into, though we're confident the Game of Thrones...

Following his December debut as the 15th iteration of the shapeshifting “Doctor Who” protagonist, Ncuti Gatwa is in the running for this year’s Best Drama Actor Emmy. As it happens, he is set to be joined on the nominations ballot by three actors who preceded him in the role of the Doctor, all of whom (like him) are seeking their very first Primetime Emmy notices.
Challenging Gatwa for inclusion in the 2024 drama lead lineup is Peter Capaldi, who played the 12th Doctor from 2014 to 2017. He currently stars on the new Apple TV+ series “Criminal Record” as Daniel Hegarty, a veteran police chief who clashes with a younger sergeant prying into a supposedly solved murder case.
Gatwa is concurrently eligible for a Best TV Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actor nomination for Apple TV+’s “Masters of the Air,” on which he portrays real-life World War II Air Force officer Robert Daniels.

This wouldn’t be Sigourney Weaver’s first time in space, but it would be her introduction into a galaxy far, far away! The famed Alien, Galaxy Quest and Ghostbusters actress is currently in talks to join Jon Favreau’s big-screen adventures of The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Deadline is reporting that Weaver is considering a “key role” in the theatrical debut of the Disney+ characters. She’s undoubtedly a commanding presence, even when her screen time is limited to a guest appearance. But how will she fit into the Star Wars universe?
The woman who made Ellen Ripley a legendary character could easily be some Mandalorian matriarch. Or she could be a ruthless Imperial commander or Moff. Maybe even another one of those Jedi who escaped Order 66?

Sigourney Weaver is in talks to star in the upcoming Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Word of Weaver’s involvement became public on Friday, first reported by The InSneider newsletter. Currently, her role and its scope are unknown, but given Weaver’s track record for starring in sci-fi hits, the casting feels appropriate.
The Mandalorian & Grogu was first announced this past January, and will see Pedro Pascal reprise the titular role that he originated with the 2019 Disney+ series The Mandalorian. N0w, making the jump to the big screen, the film will expand upon the show’s universe (which also spurred the spinoff series Ahsoka).
Jon Favreau, creator of The Mandalorian, will return to direct the film, which also marks the first feature-length Star Wars release since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni will produce, as will Favreau.

Taking legal action against Disney and Lucasfilm is a monumental task, but Gina Carano is ensuring everybody – especially those she is suing – that she is up for the challenge. This all stems from Carano being fired from The Mandalorian over a series of viewpoints on gender, the Covid-19 pandemic and more, something that triggered the former Mma fighter to enact legal action.
Gina Carano maintained that she was unjustly canned from The Mandalorian, a move that found her being defended by co-star Bill Burr, in addition to Elon Musk, who offered to foot her legal bills. While Disney and Lucasfilm sought to have the case tossed, Carano has refused to back down. Here is a partial response to the studios’ request to dismiss, as per Deadline: “After admitting that they discriminated against Carano for her personal political beliefs and subjected her to disparate treatment from her similarly situated male co-stars,...

Gina Carano, who was fired from “Star Wars” in 2021 over social media posts, has filed a lawsuit against Disney for terminating her. Disney claims she was fired over social media posts “trivializing” the Holocaust, but her co-star Pedro Pascal had behaved similarly and was not fired. Now, Carano’s attorneys are firing back at Disney’s attempt to dismiss the lawsuit, claiming that they are protected from her suit by the First Amendment.
In a new filing, Carano’s attorneys fight against Disney’s dismissal, arguing that the First Amendment does not give employers the right to control their employees’ speech. They also argue that Disney admitted to “discrimination” based on her political beliefs and did not hold male co-stars to the same standard, namely Mark Hamill and Pedro Pascal.

"Alien" star Sigourney Weaver is headed back to space, but this time, instead of fighting off aliens, she could be befriending them. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Weaver is in talks to take on a role in "The Mandalorian & Grogu," the upcoming "Star Wars" film that will be directed by Jon Favreau.

Since selling Lucasfilm to Disney for a massive $4 billion, George Lucas has left the House of Mouse to do what it will with Star Wars. Sure, he's visited the set of The Mandalorian and offered a few thoughts on the sequels, but he hasn't been creatively involved.
Disney has returned to many of his greatest creations in recent years, whether it's with a "Baby Yoda," The Clone Wars' Ahsoka Tano, or by filling in the gaps between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope by enlisting Ewan McGregor for Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi.
During an interview with the Full of Sith podcast (via SFFGazette.com), Pablo Hidalgo - a Lucasfilm executive tasked with maintaining the canon of the franchise - confirmed that Lucas was a big fan of the latter series.

A month after Disney and Lucasfilm filed paperwork to have Gina Carano’s wrongful-discharge and sex-discrimination suit tossed out, the fired Mandalorian star has kicked back to keep her Elon Musk-supported legal action off the mat.
“After admitting that they discriminated against Carano for her personal political beliefs and subjected her to disparate treatment from her similarly situated male co-stars, The Walt Disney Company, Lucasfilm Ltd, and Huckleberry Industries assert that the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution gives them absolute immunity,” says the May 9 response to defendants motion to dismiss from Carano’s Schaerr Jaffe lawyers filed in federal court here in LA (read it here). “Defendants are incorrect.”

George Lucas may have handed the reins of Star Wars to Disney, but the creator of one of the biggest science-fiction franchises in existence has apparently still been keeping up with what's happening in a galaxy far, far away.
In fact, the Lucasfilm founder is a huge fan of a recent Star Wars series that didn't exactly achieve the same level of success as some of Disney's streaming offerings like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.

Pedro Pascal has become a household name thanks to projects like Game of Thrones and The Last of Us. But how much has his net worth increased after becoming one of Hollywood’s top stars?
Pedro Pascal’s current net worth Pedro Pascal | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Pascal is currently worth $10 million. It was a fortune that, on the surface, he seemed to accumulate relatively quickly after his breakthrough Game of Thrones role. But his rise to success was a long and slow process.
He’d already been a presence in Hollywood in the 90s, having done bit parts in small shows like Buffy and The Good Wife. There was a point where Pascal’s good friend Sarah Paulson even paid him personally to keep his acting aspirations alive.
It’s unclear how much he earned during his brief time on Game of Thrones. But the...

It's been 28 years since Jan De Bont's "Twister" ripped through theaters and whipped up a $496 million worldwide gross. In the meantime, it's become a weekend cable mainstay, where viewers can tune out its wafer-thin plot and simply enjoy the foul weather spectacle. It's far from a classic, but its visual prowess is undeniable, and its colorful cast of storm chasers led by Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt seem to be having a ball. Any film that includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Alan Ruck, Jami Gertz, Todd Field, and Lois Smith is bound to be fun on some level.
So why has it taken so long for Universal to make a sequel to the second-highest-grossing film (domestically) of 1996?
"Twisters" didn't exactly have a stormy development process, but it did go through a couple of iterations over the last four years. Joseph Kosinski was attached to direct in early 2020. When that fell through,...

If you don’t have kids, you may not have heard of “Gabby’s Dollhouse.” If you have a preschooler, it has likely become a welcome upgrade from the “Cocomelon” of your child’s nursery school days.
No intended shade at “Cocomelon,” the other monster hit for Netflix in the kids space. “Cocomelon” is simplistic animation set to familiar nursery rhymes — it’s a low lift both in terms of production and consumption. “Gabby’s,” a combination of (a little) live-action and (a lot of) animation, is a child’s entry point into storytelling and imaginative play. It was for my kids — and millions of others.

Skeleton Crew is arguably one of the more intriguing Star Wars projects heading our way, with very little known about how the series will fit into the wider Galaxy Far, Far Away (we've heard next to nothing since Star Wars Celebration attendees were treated to a brief sneak peek last April).
What we do know is that the Disney+ series focuses on a group of kids who get lost in space, with Jude Law cast in the lead role as a mysterious Jedi. With a confirmed post-Return of the Jedi setting, we also anticipate it somehow tying into The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
Collider (via SFFGazette.com) recently spoke with director and executive producer Jon Watts and learned that Skeleton Crew is set to launch this holiday season. That presumably means a December launch.

Cue "Goo Goo Muck" by The Cramps -- because it's time for "Wednesday" fans to get their groove back on. The second season of Netflix's immensely popular "Addams Family" spinoff series is now officially in production in Ireland after being postponed due to last year's extremely necessary dual actors and writers' strikes. Jenna Ortega will once again lead the way as the titular character, who is still her usual unsmiling and morbid self here. Well, except that, in a twist that left a lot of longtime "Addams Family" enthusiasts confused, season 1 transformed Wednesday into a cross between a Veronica Mars-style teen sleuth and a superhero, complete with heretofore unknown psychic powers.
While our own review wasn't keen on season 1, "Wednesday" broke out in a major way with the youths, not least of all thanks to characters like Wednesday's bubbly werewolf roommate -- and, should all the "Wenclair" shippers get their way,...

Former Mma fighter Gina Carano remains at loggerheads with Disney. She reportedly hopes to receive a $75,000 payout and possibly be rehired by the House of Mouse in an Elon Musk-backed lawsuit filed after her firing from The Mandalorian.
That came after the Cara Dune actress shared a series of social media posts deemed offensive by many. The main source of outcry saw her compare being a conservative in modern America to what "thousands" of Jews went through at the hands of the Nazis during the Holocaust.
According to Screen Rant (via SFFGazette.com), Carano attended a Fan Expo Philadelphia panel this weekend and reportedly told attendees that "she has no ill will toward Disney and would be willing to work for Star Wars again."
During the appearance, she supposedly said that the only reason she's spoken out is to help others, though we've previously learned that her lawsuit seeks...

For years, Jar Jar Binks took a beating from "Star Wars" fans who were less than thrilled with the computer generated character's slapstick antics when he debuted in "The Phantom Menace" back in 1999. The bumbling Gungan was so hated that actor Ahmed Best fell into a deep depression. In more recent years, the actor has taken on a new "Star Wars" role as Jedi Kelleran Beq, who rescued "The Mandalorian" bounty Grogu from the Jedi Temple when Order 66 was enacted during the events of "Revenge of the Sith." But soon, Ahmed Best will bring together both Jar Jar Binks and the power of the Force by bringing us a dark side version of the character that finally pays off a ridiculous fan theory.
Despite appearing to be a complete dimwit, there's a popular theory that Jar Jar Binks is actually a brilliant Sith lord, and his antics have all been...

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is an upcoming adventure television series set in the universe created by George Lucas. The series was created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford and is expected to premiere sometime in 2024. Ahead of the show’s release, Watts spoke about crafting a new experience in the Star Wars world through the series.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is an upcoming series co-created by Jon Watts.
At the same time, Watts also shed light on the show’s use of practical effects. Therefore, it is likely that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will be closer in visual style to the earlier films in the franchise, which fans hold dear even today. Meanwhile, the series might also avoid the criticism aimed at the more recent entries in the franchise, which fans hate for overreliance on one particular technique.

Doctor Who is one of the most iconic and storied sci-fi franchises ever. However, while the long-running British TV series commands a legion of loyal Whovians across the globe, its low budget has held the show back from reaching the same heights as, say, Star Trek and Star Wars. However, with Disney+ now involved, Doctor Who stands a very real chance of breaking into the mainstream and attracting a larger audience than ever before. That was evident from last year’s specials and, with Russell T. Davies (who relaunched the series to great success in 2005) at the helm, the Whoniverse is in undeniably safe hands.
Two episodes were provided for review, both of which launch on Disney+/BBC this weekend. The first of those is "Space Babies," a light-hearted effort allowing Millie Davies to establish Ruby Sunday as the Doctor’s new companion as she discovers the wackiness and joy...
