Rick and Morty’s seventh season has had an air of controversy and intrigue surrounding it as series creator Justin Roiland was fired by the show and Adult Swim due to felony domestic abuse charges being brought against him. Even though Roiland hadn’t been involved in any major creative decisions with the series for years, he still voiced the eponymous duo as well as other side characters up to his departure. With Roiland gone, the creative team behind Rick and Morty had some seemingly large shoes to fill to get the new season done on time and make sure the change was virtually seamless for long-time fans.
Rather than going the Solar Opposites route and bringing in a well-known actor with a different voice to replace Roiland and making a bit out of the whole thing, Rick and Morty showrunner Scott Marder decided to take a different approach. To start,...

“Rick and Morty” finally revealed the new voices of the titular characters in Sunday’s Season 7 premiere episode following star and co-creator Justin Roiland’s ousting over sexual misconduct allegations.
Shrouded in mystery until now, the credits announced that Ian Cardoni is the new voice of Rick Sanchez and Harry Belden is the voice of Rick’s grandson Morty.
In contrast to Dan Stevens taking over Roiland’s role on the Hulu animated series “Solar Opposites,” the “Rick and Morty” team opted to cast a wide net to find soundalikes for the beloved characters, which is why they went with these two largely unknown actors.
Cardoni’s credits include a small role in Larry David’s HBO movie “Clear History” and an uncredited role in “Grown Ups,” and he’s done a lot of voiceover work.
Belden’s resume is similarly a bit scant – he was in an episode of...

Like most rising star comics today, looking to further build their audience while reaping due rewards for their work, Joe Pera is self-releasing his latest special, Joe Pera: Slow & Steady, taking it directly to YouTube. Taped to a packed house at The Opera House of Williamsburg on June 15th, his new hour will premiere on Friday, October 6th at 8:00pm Et, exclusively on his YouTube channel @JoePeraComedy.
A trailer teasing the special can be found above.
Slow & Steady was independently financed and produced and comes to the internet following the conclusion of Pera’s cult favorite Adult Swim series, Joe Pera Talks With You. Little has been revealed about the subject matter he’ll address, but it will of course be marked by Pera’s singular slow, gentle style as, more or less, the Mister Rogers of comedy.

The wonderful folks at Pixar Animation are ready to unleash their 27th feature with the imaginative "Elemental." Drawing inspiration from director Peter Sohn's youth growing up as a second-generation immigrant in New York City, the film is a celebration of cultural and ethnic diversity, wrapped in a heartwarming romantic comedy. The story is said to be inspired by films like "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "Moonstruck," and "Amélie," but is presented in a way that appeals to audiences of all ages.
"Elemental" is also one of Pixar's most ambitious films to date, with producer Denise Ream telling Total Film Magazine, "We knew it was going to be hard. We didn't know it was going to be as hard as it was." As all of the characters are different elements, they all move in entirely different ways. Considering the film showcases an entire city of different elemental folk interacting with one another,...

Over four seasons and 32 episodes, Nathan Fielder’s Comedy Central series Nathan for You was able to gradually transition from wily, capitalism-skeptical, documentary-style pranks — urging a yogurt store to develop a poo-flavored special was the show’s first segment — to the poignancy of an aging Bill Gates impersonator seeking his lost love.
The show’s greatness, beyond its cringe-y hilarity, was in the evolution from jokey explorations of white privilege — Fielder’s secret weapon is the authority conveyed by his very unassuming, if entirely unqualified, Canadian manner — to something sadder and more universal.
After a few years away, during which he only executive produced one of the best shows on TV (HBO’s How To With John Wilson), Fielder is back in front of the camera with The Rehearsal. The new HBO comedy picks up in some of those personal places Nathan for You left off,...

Cult series Joe Pera Talks with You has been canceled.
Adult Swim, part of the Warner Bros. Discovery universe, has ended the show after three seasons.
Pera revealed the news on his own email newsletter.
TV Cancellations Photo Gallery: Shows Ending In 2022 & Beyond
The 11-minute series launched in 2018 started as an animated short, followed by a live-action short. Its third season aired between November and December 2021.
It follows the mild-mannered Pera as a fictional version of himself, living in Michigan and teaching choir at a middle school. The lo-fi series sees him talk to the audience – Mr Rogers- style about mundane subjects such as breakfast and ironing.
“The more I learn how TV works, the more I realize that it’s kind of a miracle that our quiet, 11-minute show about rocks, beans, grocery stores, and breakfast crews got on the air and lasted as long as it did,” he wrote.

Photo: Joe Pera Introduction ‘Joe Pera Talks With You’ isn’t like anything else on Adult Swim. Adult Swim shows are usually associated with the words “weird”, “raunchy”, and the occasional “gory'' thanks to ‘Robot Chicken’. ‘Joe Pera Talks With You’, on the other hand, is wholesome, loving, and simple. Where to Watch ‘Good Timing with Jo Firestone’: Peacock
Comedy often works better as a magic trick. A performer arrives with a set of distinct flourishes, carefully perfected to catch their audience by surprise. Puncture that illusion and you better have something just as good ready to take its place.
Fortunately, “Good Timing with Jo Firestone” does. It’s a documentary special that gets at what gets people laughing, all through the eyes of a group of senior citizens who are part of an online comedy class. Firestone — a comedian and host of multiple podcasts and New York live events — taught the class via Zoom through the pandemic. Earlier this June, the class convened in person to prepare for their first collective standup showcase.

The streamer has handed the project a straight-to-series order.

“How To with John Wilson” is a show filled with mistakes. They’re the kind of slight variations on the New York crowds that you rarely see in standard backlot scene: an honest misstep, an out-of-nowhere animal, or an out-of-place, eye-grabbing accessory. There are plenty of times when Wilson, the show’s director/co-writer/Dp/narrator, films something slip from his non-filming hand. Those slip-ups aren’t so much a crack in the new HBO show’s facade but the facade itself. Camping out at documentary’s edge, “How To with John Wilson” is an exercise in documenting the everyday highs and lows, especially when that means embracing the unexpected.
Each episode takes a cue from its title, promising the viewer a better understanding of how to tackle a particular task. These range from having a bit of small talk to covering furniture to improving memory. All of these journeys...

There’s a point near the end of the first episode of “Joe Pera Talks With You” in Season 2 when Joe surveys his surroundings and says, “This is nice.” There’s no irony, no rug pull, no cynicism in what he says. Just one person grateful for something that hasn’t even arrived yet.
That’s the show in a nutshell: a chronicle of a guy so enthusiastic about the tiny pleasures of life that he’s even happy about potential things. This Joe Pera Talks With You review contains no spoilers.
It's very easy to be negative these days. Unfortunately, it's almost become the norm to feel like the weight of the world is just too unbearable and that we're about to be crushed by never-ending stresses. It's even easier to be cynical in the world of comedy, where an insult between friends can often resonate more than a pat on the back.
It can feel reassuring or empowering to wear this nihilistic armor, but at a point all of that negativity can fester and consume itself. The programs that populate Adult Swim's lineup definitely skew more towards rudeness and the "hipness" of apathy. This is exactly why Joe Pera Talks With You is such an important...
