Independent filmmaking is no easy task — even if you’re Steven Spielberg’s daughter.
Destry Allyn Spielberg is set to make her feature directorial debut with “Please Don’t Feed the Children,” a low-budget thriller, which was filmed last year in Santa Fe, N.M.
But the film has endured significant financing problems, shutting down just before production was to begin. Production later restarted and wrapped around Thanksgiving, but the project still owes numerous vendors about $200,000, according to emails and interviews.
“All the vendors and crew did everything we could to make this film possible,” the film’s transportation coordinator, Mike Garcia, wrote in an email to Spielberg and the producers in January. “To not pay for their services in return is unacceptable.”
Jason Dubin, the film’s lead producer, said in an interview on Wednesday that the production has recently obtained funding from a new investor in Seattle that will...

Lily Collins has given some of the most undisputed performances in almost all of her projects, with the viewers being stunned not only by her exceptional acting charms but also by her irresistible beauty. That said, her portrayal of Ellen in her 2017 thriller/drama film with Keanu Reeves, To the Bone, was nothing short of the perfect proof of just how dedicated she is to her work as well.
Lily Collins in Emily in Paris.
However, her movie was booed down and deemed a controversial project that should be banned because it could trigger strong, unwanted emotions in the people actually suffering from anorexia nervosa. But the movie itself was a real masterpiece that needed to be created, and the response that Collins received for her tremendous physical transformation only further proved its necessity.

Geri Halliwell-Horner is finally ready to share the story of Rosie Frost with the world.
After seven years of working on the book, the Spice Girl-turned-author is releasing a new children's novel, "Rosie Frost and the Falcon Queen," on Oct. 3. While this certainly isn't her first book (she's written two autobiographies and the beloved Ugenia Lavender book series), it's one that is deeply personal to Halliwell-Horner, given her love for English literature, history, and conservation.
"It has been an epic journey," Halliwell-Horner tells Popsugar.
"Sometimes we need to find our power, we need to borrow each other's confidence to stand up to people or to situations."
"Rosie Frost and the Falcon Queen" is a modern-day girl-power story filled with family secrets, surprising betrayals, and a mysterious island. It centers on a 13-year-old girl named Rosie Frost, who suddenly finds herself orphaned and alone after the death of her mother.

Behind some bins – big wheelie ones down an alley on Dublin’s Northside – a man and a woman, both oldish, are coupling frantically. Their al fresco pleasure is interrupted when they are spotted by the man’s daughter, who’s just come out of an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
“It’s not what it looks like, Shiv,” explains her flustered father, as he makes himself decent while the woman, short and of Asian heritage, with cropped silver hair, yanks up her tights.
“It looks like an old Irish man f***in’ a woman behind some bins,” she says.
This delicious scene is from The Dry, a daffy eight-part tragicomedy previously on Britbox, now coming to Itvx. The old man is played, with all his baffled hangdog charm, by Ciarán Hinds, who is 70. The woman behind the bins with him – and here’s the complicated surprise – is played by none other than Hinds’s French-Vietnamese wife,...

They say "blood is thicker than water," but for many, this isn't true — the strongest bonds are with those we love, who may or may not be blood relatives. This is the basic premise explored in "Rosie," a Canadian indie film about found families, accepting queer identities, and overcoming trauma. It's a thoroughly charming little film, and while it has flaws, it's a promising project from some emerging faces in the industry.
"Rosie" is the debut feature film from Métis writer-director-actor Gail Maurice. From icons and industry veterans to emerging directors and new faces, the stories and creative power of Indigenous women are featured at the 2022 Toronto festival.

Is it really 20 years since Milla Jovovich’s Alice first kicked zombie ass in a red dress? The movie inspired by the much loved video game series spawned five sequels and a 2021 reboot, and has become a significant entry in movie zombie lore. Yet, lots of people think the films are rubbish. As Wikipedia puts it:
“Despite all the installments receiving generally negative reviews from critics, the Resident Evil film series has grossed over $1.2 billion.”
Well someone must like those films, surely?
Two decades on, Den of Geek has decided to revisit the original to work out once and for all whether this is a misunderstood masterpiece or a perfectly well understood trash fire. Movies Editor David Crow and UK Editor Rosie Fletcher had a rewatch and fundamentally disagreed. They duke it out below.
Rosie Fletcher: Paul W.S. Anderson probably isn’t the best director called Paul Anderson working currently.

Moe Dunford shines in Stephen Fingleton’s well-constructed Belfast-set drug-deal drama that, though not perfect, has craftsmanship and brio in abundance
First-time screenwriter Ben Conway has put together an interesting Belfast crime thriller, which pans out in a single, unbroken 97-minute take in real time, about a drug dealer doing one last catastrophic deal. Stephen Fingleton, who made an impression with his own 2015 debut The Survivalist, directs it with some elan.
Most of the film is a single, locked-off shot of a guy at the wheel of his car, talking tensely to people via a hands-free mobile while his life terrifyingly unravels. This owes quite a bit to Steven Knight’s lo-fi 2014 classic Locke, starring Tom Hardy doing very much the same thing. Moe Dunford (from Paddy Breathnach’s homelessness drama Rosie) plays Budge: a tough drug dealer looking for the traditional final big score to get him out of...

Moe Dunford (from Paddy Breathnach’s homelessness drama Rosie) plays Budge: a tough drug dealer looking for the traditional final big score to get him out of...

Melbourne-based production company Truce Films has optioned the new book from Graeme Simsion, author of The Rosie Project.
Released as an Audible Original in September, Creative Differences follows the relationship between Emily, an aspiring literary writer, and Scott, a jobbing screenwriter.
Combining his punchy plot and her luminous prose, they crafted an international hit – and fell in love doing it. Three years later, Scott’s subsequent solo novel flops and Emily struggles with her literary manuscript, straining their relationship.
Director Bec Peniston Bird, who recently worked on Jack Irish, is attached to the project. She has previously collaborated with Simsion on short films, and the pair are early readers of each other’s work.
She said the story was well suited to a screen adaptation.
“From my first read of Creative Differences, I loved the creative tug-of-war which underpins the story and could see the potential for a smart, sexy rom-com,...

The characters of Biohackers are faced with such mystery in situations that are larger than anything they could’ve imagined, that they play God in their own journey of synthetic science. Big stuff.
This six-part German Netflix series is everything but what you would expect of a European sci-fi thriller. Created by Christian Ditter, instead of moving from planet to planet in an unbelievable this-will-never-happen flurry, Biohackers is a fast-paced thriller that touches on lust and young relationships, as well as heartbreak and loss, and it’s the better for it.
The show keeps the topic of modern science at its core, in a way attractive enough to keep even those disinterested with topics of biology engaged. By casting talented, young and diverse actors in the lead roles, Ditter creates a symphony of humour, gripping drama and romance.
Scene one of the first episode opens with a young seem-to-be couple on a train.

Various factors have set housing costs skyrocketing in many major cities worldwide, creating numerous problems — not least the increasing forcing-out of native residents in favor of better-heeled newcomers. Penned by Irish novelist Roddy Doyle, “Rosie” offers a microcosm of that crisis in Dublin, as a working-class family finds itself literally (if hopefully just temporarily) homeless.
The excruciating difficulties of being stuck in a car with four restless children all day, and no certainty of proper beds at night, are made all too vivid in this drama set over one 36-hour period. It’s not an experience many viewers will want to share, even vicariously, and the lack of star names will further limit commercial prospects. Still, Paddy Breathnach’s film is an admirable distillation of a jam happening to more and more people who never imagined being in such straits — and who, until recently, would have scarcely been at risk of it.

"I've always looked after them." Element Pictures has debuted an official trailer for the indie drama Rosie, made by Irish filmmaker Paddy Breathnach. The film is about a mother trying to protect her family after their landlord sells their rented home and they become homeless. Starring Sarah Greene as Rosie, with Moe Dunford, Natalia Kostrzewa, Ellie O'Halloran, Ruby Dunne, Darragh McKenzie, and Molly McCann. The film Rosie examines "how even in times of crises; the love and strength of a family can endure." This looks like another powerful story about the struggles of modern society and people we may not think much about, similar to I, Daniel Blake. It looks moving and heartfelt. This just premiered at Tiff, then opens in Ireland next month. Here's the festival trailer (+ quad poster) for Paddy Breathnach's Rosie, direct from YouTube (via Vimeo): Rosie tells the story of a mother trying to ...
