Mr-9: Do or Die is based on the first of a long-running series of mostly ghost-written novels chronicling the adventures of Masud Rana, Bangladesh’s answer to James Bond. Somewhat surprisingly given there are 500 or so novels in the franchise, this is only the second attempt at bringing them to the screen, the first being Masud Rana in 1974. Fifty years later, will the world be more receptive to the Bangladeshi Bond?
The film certainly starts on a familiar note with Rana running unnoticed across wide open lawns in broad daylight without being noticed. Despite his best efforts and his leaving a trail of bodies behind him, his target gets away and the two agents he was supposed to rescued are killed.

Almost everyone, including those on the outside of the gaming community, has been made aware of the Grand Theft Auto phenomenon. The series contains some of the best crime games ever developed, with the over-the-top free-roaming experience being kindled by the joy of running NPCs over with a vehicle not even owned by the player. Add a bunch of guns and witty storytelling to this, and the recipe is golden.
However, the wait for GTA 6’s next trailer has been getting on the nerves of many, and gamers are desperate to look forward to the other fun experiences to be had. Especially when these adventures involve crime, an open world, and even timeless memories.
Here are the 5 games you should try out which may just temporarily occupy the void that’s to be filled by GTA 6.
5. Saints Row 2 This one’s a more grounded version of a franchise that many people don’t know of.

“Kung Fu Panda 4” (Universal) debuted on PVOD to #1 April 9, which it has enjoyed for a week; that will end with “Dune: Part 2” (Warner Bros.), which debuts today after 46 days in release.
Both films still are in the box office Top 10. “Panda” actually rose one position to #4 this weekend, with its 29 percent drop the lowest of any holdover on the list. It still has a shot at a $200 million domestic gross. “Dune 2,” which was #5 this weekend and will get close to $300 million, will likely minimize the impact of parallel home availability given its essential visual presentation.
Based on presales, “Dune 2” is already #6 on iTunes top 10 list (ranked by transactions). Other platforms stick to currently available titles, but it would be surprising if it’s not immediately #1 on both iTunes and Fandango.

Adam Cooper’s directorial debut, Sleeping Dogs, follows a theme similar to Nolan’s Memento and even the Stan original, The Tourist. In this psychological thriller starring Russell Crowe, memories play a central role as a former cop with Alzheimer’s reopens a case from nearly ten years ago. We, as humans, are the culmination of all our past experiences—good and bad ones included. These experiences forge our character and make us the people we are. However, one can’t help but wonder who we would be if these memories were to be erased. For a bioscience graduate who has spent a semester writing a review article on this disorder, Alzheimer’s might just be my biggest nightmare. This disorder, at best, can be prevented, but there is no known cure, which makes it more understandable why Roy Freeman undergoes the painful procedure of getting electrodes implanted in his head.

Today, Ghost of Tsushima is considered one of the most celebrated open-world games that released for the PlayStation consoles. It was developed by Sucker Punch Productions, and when it first went for sale back in 2020, it shattered everyone’s expectations. It was a beautiful game set in historical Japan, featuring a disgraced samurai.
On the other hand, its core gameplay loop was in itself pretty incredible. It has one of the best hand-to-hand combat systems other than titles like the Batman Arkham series, Sleeping Dogs, and Sekiro. Yet, some suggest that if its developers ever decide to work on a sequel for this game, they must go ahead and leave one thing out of it.
Would Ghost of Tsushima 2 be much better without this essential feature?
A still from Ghost of Tsushima
Open-world games come a dime a dozen nowadays. Every developer out there is seemingly dedicated to giving fans the bang for their buck.

Sleeping Dogs is a thriller directed by Adam Cooper starring Russell Crowe. With Karen Gillian, Marton Csokas, and Tommy Flanagan. It is based on the novel by E.O. Chirovici.
“Sleeping Dogs” does not present as an original thriller or a film we haven’t seen before. Rather, it’s a movie that plays it safe, focusing on adhering to the classic guidelines of a psychological murder thriller: offering a touch of titillation for the viewer and most importantly, intriguing them through the progressive unraveling of the mystery via plot twists. It attempts on both fronts and succeeds, albeit without much creativity, thus undermining the effectiveness of those twists.
The premise seems promising, albeit reminiscent of a mashup between Memento and Final Analysis, but ultimately fails to replicate either of them.
Sleeping Dogs The Plot
A detective who has undergone experimental Alzheimer’s treatment is tasked with reviewing a murder case he was previously involved with.

Submerged below the surface of pirate history on the South China Sea lies a deeply emotional and captivating tale of survival. Cheng Shih, a woman seemingly forgotten by history, lived on these tropical and often tempestuous waters, using her intelligence and cunningness to become one of the greatest leaders in this part of the world. Her story is one of progression, succession, and courage, which is inspiring in the face of a brutal and often violent portion of the 19th century.

Most know Karen Gillan as Nebula in the MCU or from the newer Jumanji films. Or if you’re a weirdo like me you remember her from her great work in the third season of Ntsf:sd:suv. As her time as Nebula draws to a close, she’s been popping up in some really interesting Indie work. While her role was brief, she had quite the screen presence in last year’s Next Exit. And I’m not sure if you’re aware but Russell Crowe has been absolutely killing it lately. So I was very excited to see Gillan and Crowe team up for a new crime thriller.
Sleeping Dogs takes the viewer on a very interesting journey of discovery. Gillan’s Laura Baines is quite layered and allows a little more grey area.

Russell Crowe changed the ending of his new movie at the last minute. The 59-year-old actor stars in 'Sleeping Dogs' as an ex-homicide detective with a fractured memory alongside Karen Gillan and director Adam Cooper revealed Crowe shocked him by insisting he wanted to rewrite the ending. He told Collider: "Yeah, the whole end of the movie. I remember the day when we were shooting the final triangle standoff... Russell showed up that morning, we had two days to shoot that scene, and he was like, 'I don't like the scene'. And so I spent, I think, five hours in his trailer with him and we pretty much rewrote the whole scene. So that."You know, I also remember the very first scene where Karen's character meets Harry Greenwood's character, where Richard first meets Laura. That scene was originally written that Richard walks up to Laura sitting at...

“Sleeping Dogs,” starring Russell Crowe as a retired cop with Alzheimer’s disease, is a half-rusted scrap heap of a detective mystery. It’s patchy, it’s badly lit, it’s glum, it’s overloaded with suspects, and it’s almost proud of its contrivances. Yet in its logy, booby-trapped way, it keeps you watching.
Crowe, with a white beard and shaved head that make him look like Santa Claus as a melancholy biker, plays Roy Freeman, who was forced to turn in his badge after he caused a drunk-driving accident. Now, he’s in the thick of serious midstage dementia; he has written labels on masking tape and plastered them around his apartment, so that he’ll be reminded of everything from his own name to where the hot water is. The gloss on “Memento” is obvious enough, but it’s also a coincidence that the film is being...

Q&a’s are a staple of indie opening weekends since they tend to sell tickets but Bob and Jeanne Berney’s Picturehouse has raised that bar, offering audiences seven-minute live burlesque revues before selected screenings of documentary Carol Doda Topless At The Condor. The ode to the woman, and to 1960s San Francisco where she broke out topless, opens in limited release in New York, LA, San Francisco and San Rafael. Dancers in what Bob Berney called a “Doda-esqe burlesque” will not be topless,” he said — “but pretty close.”
Dancers start in the audience then move to the front of the theater against a specially designed backdrop of image and sound on screen. “It brings you into that world immediately. You are there before the film starts,” he said.
“Eventizing” a film is great if you can do it. The box office is much better but still a bit weird since Covid.

Plot: An ex-homicide detective (Russell Crowe) with memory loss is forced to solve a brutal murder, only to uncover chilling secrets from his forgotten past.
Review: Russell Crowe has been in a bit of a career resurgence lately so I’ve been pretty excited whenever a new film of his releases. No matter the quality of the film, Crowe himself tends to be can’t miss. And that’s usually because he’s playing some eccentric character, that stands out against his more bland surroundings. Thankfully with the likes of Karen Gillan and Tommy Flanagan showing up, Crowe doesn’t have to carry the entire film himself. But I definitely recommend checking your brain at the door.

You know you’re getting old when your favorite movie stars are starting to play characters afflicted with dementia. Arriving shortly on the heels of Knox Goes Away, featuring Michael Keaton as a hitman suffering from the condition, is Adam Cooper’s neo-noir thriller starring Russell Crowe as an ex-cop whose mental condition has deteriorated so dramatically that he’s forced to leave notes plastered throughout his apartment, Memento-style. Despite the plot element’s familiarity, it’s still the most intriguing element of Sleeping Dogs, a sluggishly rendered mystery that audiences will have long stopped caring about before it reaches its conclusion.
Crowe plays Roy Freeman, a former homicide detective whose sad state of being is immediately signified not only by those notes offering the simplest of reminders but also the stack of Hungry-Man frozen dinners in his freezer. He’s wearing a large bandage on his head, the remnant...

Intentionally or not, Sleeping Dogs invites comparison to Memento. In Adam Cooper’s steadfastly self-serious directorial debut, a bedraggled ex-homicide detective, Roy Freeman (Russell Crowe), is tasked with solving a brutal murder that he can’t recall due to his memory loss. But the comparison to Christopher Nolan’s breakout doesn’t do Sleeping Dogs any favors. For one, we know we’re in trouble from the moment we see Freeman stumbling through a decrepit apartment, its otherwise sparse walls adorned with handwritten messages that exist as much for his benefit as ours, like the unfortunately hilarious “You Have Alzheimers.”
From the start, the film lays it on thick. Freeman’s apartment has all the markers of someone whose mind is slowing deteriorating: staplers that have been left in water glasses, melted pieces of technology in the microwave, and half-eaten meals on top of furniture. The man wears the thickest...

It’s been four years since The Avenue first launched, and the indie distributor just scored its first top 10 film with William Eubank’s “Land of Bad.”

After a healthy run of comedy and genre work, Karen Gillan felt it was time for a dramatic change.
Shortly before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s whirlwind press tour, Gillan returned to Australia where she shot Thor: Love and Thunder a couple years earlier, and joined the cast of Adam Cooper’s Sleeping Dogs, led by Russell Crowe. The twisty psychological crime drama follows Crowe’s retired homicide detective Roy Freeman, as his recovery from an experimental Alzheimer’s procedure prompts him to re-approach a murder case from a decade earlier. Gillan plays the enigmatic Laura Baines, the right-hand researcher to Marton Csokas’ Dr. Joseph Wieder and his memory reconsolidation therapy thesis.

Highland Film Group shared a first look at “London Calling,” an action-comedy that reunites director Allan Ungar with star Josh Duhamel after the success of the action heist thriller “Bandit.”
Film also stars Jeremy Ray Taylor, Rick Hoffman and Aidan Gillen (“Game of Thrones”)

“The Witcher” has been one of the streamer’s most popular series, so when Season 3 – the final one with Henry Cavill – was released last week, it was no surprise it did quite well with 15.2 million views (about 73 million viewing hours divided by the 4.82 runtime for the season). Even though he’s not in Ridley Scott’s sequel to Gladiator, Russell Crowe can’t give an interview without anyone asking him questions about it. While appearing at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Crowe (via THR) weighed in on being constantly asked about Gladiator 2.
“They should be f*cking paying me for the amount of questions I get asked about the f*cking film that I am not even in,” adding, “in that world, I’m dead, six feet under. And that’s that.” However, he also thinks the movie is bound to be extraordinary. “If Ridley has decided to do a second part … he will have really strong reasons…I couldn’t think of that movie being less than absolutely spectacular.” He even admitted to a “twinge of jealousy” over the film as it reminds him of his younger days.

A day after receiving much love from crowds at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival for his acting and musical chops, Russell Crowe on Saturday discussed future projects, his passion for music and addressed, yet again, Gladiator 2.
“The next project I shoot is Nuremberg,” the Hollywood star told a press conference at the festival without sharing more details, drawing gasps when he added: “And I play Hermann Göring.” After all, Göring was one of the most powerful figures in Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party. During the Nuremberg trials in 1946, he was sentenced to death by hanging for war crimes, crimes against humanity and other crimes. He died by suicide before the sentence was to be carried out. During a recent Irish radio interview, Crowe had also mentioned the movie, adding that it would be directed by Jamie Vanderbilt.

Josh Duhamel will join the ensemble of the survival thriller “Not Without Hope,” an adaptation of Nick Schuyler and Jere Longman’s best-selling book that will be written and directed by Joe Carnahan. Also joining the cast are JoBeth Williams, Quentin Plair, Terrence Terrell and Marshall Cook.
As previously announced, Zachary Levi (“Shazam!”) is starring in the film, which tells the real-life story of a tragic 2009 boating accident involving Schuyler, his friends Will Bleakley (Cook) and NFL players Marquis Cooper (Plair) and Corey Smith (Terrell). Levi will play Schuyler.
The search-and rescue-operation captivated national attention. Duhamel will portray U.S. Coast Guard Captain Timothy Close, who oversaw a crew that cut through the ocean to try to find the friends who went missing.
