This one was touching.

Warning: Spoilers
My favorite part in this episode is where Amenadiel says, "I know who did this," and Lucifer right behind him simply says, "I'll drive." It's a beautiful expression of fraternal love. They may have had rivalries over the millennia, but when someone hurts one, the other is there to break all the rules and help them get justice.

I also love that they didn't beat the audience over the head with politics here. They could have, and while I highly doubt I would have been offended where they could have gone, the fact that they were mindful that some in the audience would throw a tantrum is another reason these writers deserve credit.

Anyway, my only complaint here is I wanted to see Amenadiel kick a little more a--. Of course it is his character to regain control of himself and show restraint, but it's always fun to see him throw some people around.

Best Season Ever.

Warning: Spoilers
NETFLIX really outdid themselves on this season. It is far better than the seasons where FOX was the producers.

NETFLIX made it brief and fun.

Excellent character development

Warning: Spoilers
Many reviewers focused on the political messages in this episode. In doing so they overlooked some of the best character development in the show so far. Lucifer's realizations about himself and his relationships in this episode were a huge step forward for his character and the show.

Solid message about police brutality and race
This episode actually had a lot of depth for a supernatural series such as this, where themes like police brutality and race are tackle in a very convincing and emotional way.

Worth a watch, even if you have not see any other episode.

Amenadiel's Story is heartbreaking
ashurley-6909928 April 2020
While I do like Tom's portrayal of being a bad boyfriend, DB steals this episode! His helping Caleb and their story is heartbreaking, but Dan and Chloe try to help. Love Tom and DB when DB says, "I know who did this." Tom says "I'll drive." The next scene is powerful and heartbreaking.

Funny and poignant.

Lucifer is one of those rare shows that can take you from tears of joy to tears of sadness within the same episode. The super bad boyfriend montage is one of the funniest things I have seen on TV. Another great episode.

Deep, complex episode

Warning: Spoilers
I am writing this from 2020, in the post-George Floyd era, and it really strikes home with everything going on today. Besides the deep racial issues, a lot of build up to the end of the season, so even without that it is still pretty decent. Most of my favorite moments in the entire show were the Lucifer Montages, the "Don't want to fall asleep," the singing one,, and this one is great.

Diversity and Pressing Issues
karenreiszv19 May 2019
Watching this episode at the moment and the writers have done a good job with integrating a pressing social issue about color and discrimination. This is superb and job well down for the writers. Made watching Lucifer so all the more worth it

Excellent episode

To me this episode was a revelation. Finally some depth in characters development that doesn't involve Lucifer's issues. I even feel the whole Lucifer revelation on the doctor and the detective didn't stir from their side enough feeling.Thats why this episode was so different

Best episode ever
DutchDave13 August 2019
I'm usually not a fan of drama, especially not in fun series, but this episode brought a streak of raw realism into the story which made it so much better. I know it is fantasy. I know it is mixing a fun series with the dark aspects of the way society is working in the US, and that some people rather wouldn't be reminded of this. But in my opinion this mix makes the fantasy much more potent. Well done.

Wokeness reared it's ugly head
peckhart16 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm joining the party a little late, because I didn't know Netflix had picked up the show. I've enjoyed catching up, and I'm still giving this one a 6 even though the writers took things in the wrong direction. They did so clumsily. The arresting officers had a murder warrant for Caleb, and they didn't know Amenadiel or Caleb. All they knew was that there was a suspected murderer right in front of them, and one of the two was causing a problem. Also, Amenadiel is an angel. This black/white crap shouldn't even register with him.

Like I said, I'm coming in late, but I've already canceled The Rookie which was tough. I've always liked Nathan Fillion. I like the whole cast of this show, and it has an interesting premise. It'd be a shame if the writers screwed this one up too.

A political farce.
Tommetfactory2814 September 2020
I enjoy Lucifer and a host of other American shows on Netflix. There seems to be a trend now with these collection of shows where they do majorly woke episodes, that deliver completely false narratives on the countries social situation. This episode is another nonsense, black lives matter, political waste of time. The agenda is clear and it's frustrating to have to watch it unfold. The writers should be ashamed. They are living in a fantasy world where liberal socialism is the be all and end all.

Skip this episode. It's awful!

Good episode, terrible music
janwalker422 February 2021
Really good episode, lots of good character development.

I do have one comment about the music. Why do the directors/etc always seem to think that the actors can't act? That we need to have some "relevant" song going over the non-dialogue scenes, just so we can understand what the characters are going through?

Just stop it with your political nonsense
watsond-910373 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The black kid that got arrested was a literal murder suspect with a litany if evidence him. Amenadiel was lucky he didn't get killed. Maybe learn how to be a normal person when they interact with a cop that has a gun pointed at a murder suspect? Nah, let's make this about cops. So ridiculous.

Ratings are being skewed
natehale15 December 2021
The episode wasn't great. But what made it worse was that when looking at reviews, it was obvious that IMDB was skewing the rating by ignoring or removing ratings that were unfavorable.

Unnecessary
feyd_6 September 2020
It's not as bad PC as in some other Netflix shows, but... If Hollywood will remind us about the same problems in of their productions it will be exactly the same and boring. Not everything must be about race equality. Especially if you want to do something for more than just US audience. Lucifer plot as usually good.

Politics dosent belong in this show
s-t-t-f5 July 2019
Ive been enjoying this show because its been joking about everything more or less yet staying away from making a "everyday political stance" at least that i can remember. Until now that is and it really caught me off guard. I never thought Lucifer would have gone there the way they did. We use TV Shows to escape the daily grind!

Politics dosen't belong in Lucifer, please keep it out!

Way too much going on.
nosredna-084316 June 2019
There are too many subplots to focus in on the main drive of the season. I know the episode tackled a very heavy subject (race) and it's an admirable attempt to bring light to heated topic today but it just feels very shoehorned in. The characters are acting way out of the ordinary and it just felt like a clunky mess.

Netflix got woke, and nearly broke Lucifer
RogerBorg26 May 2019
The joy of Lucifer has been that it ignores, subverts or joyously mocks police procedural and social justice tropes.

So what happened here?

This is a straight "hand up, don't shoot" blue-on-black identity politics plot. It lampshades the issue, but offers nothing wise or witty or insightful by way of a solution. Worse, it pisses on the character of Amenadiel by making him into a passive victim who himself needs rescuing by a (mostly) White Saviour.

This is tedious and lazy and clearly done only so that their new owners Netflix can signal their woke virtue. It feels like an episode written for a different, duller show entirely.

The rest of it is also weak and forgettable as it lacks enough Lucifer, and also plays him as passive and dithering. Granted it's not as execrable as Boo Normal, but it's a long fall from Devil of my Word.

I guarantee that none of the those viewers scrabbling to sing a paean to it will be rushing to re-watch it. As with Boo Normal, this episode could and should have been cut out of the season altogether, and it would have been all the stronger for it.

Worst episode of 4 seasons
seth199829 July 2019
Yeah bringing race as subject on this show was just the wrong move... the Fantastic 4 tried that and the movie flopped... Leave politics out of show business...
