Blumhouse and Prime Video are going back to the future this October when the studio releases Totally Killer, a comedic horror film starring Kiernan Shipka as a time-traveling final girl trying to save her friends from a slasher’s milestone massacre. Today’s Totally Killer trailer finds Shipka’s Jamie Hughes returning to 1987, hoping to stop the killer before he can claim more victims in the present day.
Here’s the official synopsis for Totally Killer:
Thirty-five years after the shocking murder of three teens, the infamous “Sweet Sixteen Killer “returns on Halloween night to claim a fourth victim. Seventeen-year-old Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) ignores her overprotective mom’s (Julie Bowen) warning and comes face-to-face with the masked maniac and, on the run for her life, accidentally time-travels to 1987, the year of the original killings. Forced to navigate the unfamiliar and outrageous culture of the 1980s, Jamie teams up with...

Everything you need to know about Alice’s (Anna Kendrick) state of mind concerning the abuse inflicted by her boyfriend Simon (Charlie Carrick) are the words “it’s not like he hurts me.” We feel Sophie’s (Wunmi Mosaku) wince in our bones—”hurt” doesn’t only become noteworthy when wrought by a physical altercation. Alice is glued to her phone to ensure she doesn’t miss a call or text. She wakes up super early to apply make-up and style her hair to Simon’s preference. Parrots all the soundbites he uses to police her eating habits about the toxicity of sugar. And literally pulls her hair out of her head whenever she has a spare second of freedom because the pain is all that stops her from acknowledging her crippling shame.

While it’s annoying to hear people declare that there were “no great films this year” under any circumstances, it’s even more outrageous in 2020 when put into context. Why? Because what we lost during this pandemic wasn’t what’s indelible to the cinematic artform. Seeing theaters close (some permanently) is a horrible tragedy that may reshape how we consume our favorite medium moving forward, but it didn’t destroy the content, creativity, or genius of the product itself. It may have conversely worked to expand our access (via virtual cinemas in support of local theaters and online film festivals moving beyond geographical borders) and prove what it is film fans truly crave: quality over quantity.

The Toronto International Film Festival has added another 26 new titles to its 2019 festival lineup, comprised entirely of features directed by Canadian filmmakers. Each year, Tiff highlights films that hail from its own shores in a standalone announcement, and this year it includes seven first features, 13 works by returning Tiff alumni, and almost 50% films directed by women.
Tiff debuts include Aisling Chin-Yee’s “The Rest of Us,” Harry Cepka’s “Raf,” Matthew Rankin’s “The Twentieth Century,” Heather Young’s “Murmur,” and Nicole Dorsey’s “Black Conflux.” Plenty of returning filmmakers are also included in this batch of films, including Atom Egoyan, Sophie Deraspe, Joey Klein, Albert Shin, Calvin Thomas and Yonah Lewis, Louise Archambault, Kire Paputts, and Amy Jo Johnson.

The Stand TV series will adapt one of Stephen King's most famous books, and it's set to air on CBS All Access!
It's been a long gestation period for Josh Boone's (The New Mutants) adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand, but it's finally happening. The book will be adapted as a 10-episode limited series at CBS All Access, the network's subscription service.
Boone, who is set to direct the series, will also executive produce and pen the script with Ben Cavell (Homeland). And they're both working with King's enthusiastic approval.
"I’m excited and so very pleased that The Stand is going to have a new life on this exciting new platform," King said in a statement. "The people involved are men and women who know exactly what they’re doing; the scripts are dynamite. The result bids to be something memorable and thrilling.
