Honestly a really good series. Everything happening is honest, nothing is made up. Ricky has honestly nailed it with season 1 &2, genius.

Absolutely Brilliant

I can't imagine that many people find "After Life" to their taste, but I just think it is brilliant, funny, absurd, sad, touching, and most of all REAL. Ricky Gervais has surrounded himself with terrific actors. As I write this (1:00 am on November 1st, 2021, I have just watched episode 5 of season one. I'm really fighting the urge to at least watch episode 6, but I have to work tomorrow morning! When, towards the end of this episode, Sandy tells him "Tony, you're breaking my heart." Wow, it just hit me right in the heart.

One thing I have noticed about After Life. The weather does not match Tony's mood. It looks like Ricky Gervais was blessed with good sunny weather when this was filmed.
As Tony goes about his day, nonchalant that he gave a drug addict enough money to overdose himself, or that he threatened to kill a chubby kid who has been bullying his nephew at school.
Tony's brother in law seems to have had enough of his self pitying. Even Sandy tries to get through to him.
I actually found myself laughing at this episode several times. Despite this being a dark drama, there is absurd comedy. It ranges from Lenny's girlfriend dropping by, to meeting the woman who makes cakes and pudding from breast milk to that weird Brian and his smelly house being full of junk.

Warning: Spoilers
Finally, they actually let Sandy have some lines and not just smile at Tony's jokes.
Her speech was good, but it felt unimportant considering Tony just heard the same point from the widow on the bench in the previous scene.

What a roller coaster

One minute you are almost in tears feeling really sad for Tony and the next minute we are introduced to a respectable lady who makes pudding and bread from organic, natural components and you are just in stitches with laughter.
I honestly can't remember the last time I watched any movie or tv show that caught me off guard and sent me into pure laughter as this episode did.
Great show and great performances literally by everyone.
