I finished the first season of "Lore" back in July. The fact that it's taken me almost exactly two months to get through the six episodes that make up the second season should tell you everything about how I feel about it. Though I didn't truly love that first season, this one does away with the aspect of the show I liked and enhanced the part I didn't.
The second season of "Lore" tells the story of six cases, throughout history. The Burke and Hare bodysnatchers, Countess Bathory, a German family murdered in their home, the cursed clock of Prague, Mary Webster; accused of witchcraft and Jack Parsons, Crowley acolyte and rocket scientist.
Whereas the first season mixed in the logic behind its cases and explained the reasons behind some of the superstitions or myths, alongside a dramatic recreation, this second season is just the recreation, no context, supporting information and, in some cases, even a decent resolution is not provided. It's all the worse for it. The performances are fine and again, they've secured some good performers to take part. Emmett Scanlan, Thomas Kretschmann, Jurgen Prochnow, Steven Berkoff, Paula Malcomson and Alicia Witt all appear in various stories.
But the stories are the problem. Burke and Hare has been done several times before, so although that has the clearest resolution it's also likely to be the one your most familiar with. The cursed clock and the Jack Parson's episodes really don't have any story to them, not one that any true logic really applies too. The German murder story is perhaps the most frustrating, given that it suggests that the truth behind it might be out there, but they're not currently able to release the information.
The first season was fine but the second is just a waste of time and money.
