The Signoria did not dissolve until after Lorenzo's son Piero and been forced to leave Florence.
At the time of Lorenzo's death, Piero had been married and a son was born to him and his wife. The son was named Lorenzo. They later had a daughter named Clarice.
There never was an attempt on Savonarola's life orchestrated by the Medicis.
The Bonfire of the Vanities called for by Savonarola occurred on 7 February 1497 (1496 under the calendar then in use which had 25 March as New Year's Day), nearly five years after Lorenzo's death and nearly 3 years after Piero (nicknamed the Unfortunate) had been forced from the city.
