At Tex's car dealership, there are those wacky inflatable stick-men waving in the breeze, shown while Marius is walking, in the same shot. This could relate to executive producer (and former villain) Bryan Cranston's Breaking Bad: The inflatables were the signature of shifty lawyer Saul Goodman (Jimmy McGill), who is a con artist like Marius.
Julia mentions to Pete the famous Frog and Scorpion story, and Pete points out that it's basically an overrated and over-told tale that people think they're always the first to tell it: The story was was made popular from the movie The Crying Game, and years earlier was used in Orson Welles's indie noir, Mr. Arkadin.
