Nice, easy watch. Sortof like a less intense Desperate Housewives. I enjoyed it

Not really a detective show

Bad mothers is more about the women's personal lives which range from being dysfunctional and living up to the shows name, to just being a bad situation and doing the best they can. Otherwise than that the characters themselves range from annoying to okay but I never really liked anybody. The murder mystery takes second place to the drama and at times isn't even actively investigated.
It is not too serious, not that great and if you don't expect much and keep it in mind that this is more about the women than the murder, you'll probably watch it through at least to see who did it.

Enjoyed it. Excellent

Judging from the first episode, I like it. I read the other reviews comparing it to Big Little Lies. Don't! It has the same elements but it can be a stand-alone series. Many series have the same - cheating, friends, husbands, murder etc. SO WHAT. There is nothing new under the sun in subjects like these. Many of the best series in the past years are bought and adjusted to the native country of showing like, to name a few- "Homeland"... the hit show originated as Israel's "Prisoners of War." "The Office" in the USA originated from the British original series, "Ugly Betty" ...originated in Colombia as "Yo Soy Betty, La Fea." All in the Family" ...started in Britain's "Till Death Us Do Part." And so on and on. And I am not talking about the reality shows that are being made almost the same in other countries accommodating them to the present showing country.
So stop with the comparison.
The acting is good, the characters are likeable, the settings are clean and beautiful. I will definitely recommend this series. I love it so far.
Badly Written

Warning: Spoilers
The dialogue is clunky (though the actors try their best to make it work, with the exception of Melissa George, who just makes the whole thing grind to a halt whenever she's on screen) and the characters are badly dressed (really, is that how rich women dress?), and though it feels like it should be another Big Little Lies, it's so badly written that you find yourself wanting to re-watch that rather than suffer through this. They've crammed what should have been stretched out over a few episodes into one, with a man suddenly deciding to have an affair and then just as suddenly deciding he should make his marriage work all in the space of a day, and a bunch of women who aren't rich suddenly deciding to take under their wing a rich bitch they've hated for a supposedly long time. Why would they do this? What's their motivation? Pure pity? Wouldn't the rich bitch find their pity grating? So many things just don't work with this. It's disappointing because I was looking forward to it.
Good Drama.

I really wanted to like it, but

This series should have been at least an enjoyable way to wipe away a few hours on a rainy afternoon. The writing is so bland, predictable, irrational, and just plain BAD. The delivery isn't much better. Considering most of the quality stuff coming out of Australia, just skip this one.
Enjoyable

Superb Australian drama

Bad Mothers is superb quality Australian suspense drama.
Set in an affluent, upwardly-mobile milieu, the cast, performances, direction, script production quality and photography are excellent.
Amongst the cast, Daniel MacPherson is particularly brilliant.
Bad Mothers reinforces the fact that Australian drama can indeed lead the world in terms of quality.
blatant copy of big little lies

Can we have a second season, please?

A nice drama with many plot twists.
I would really like a second season.
These women are not "bad mothers" at all. Except from Charlotte.
This series teaches about friendship, love, forgiveness. The significance of having people who have your back.

... another promising series having life cut short
bjarias17 January 2023
... this was a very good first season series had life cut short by the Covid-pandemic... no matter how good this lengthy list of top notch Australian acting talent was promising to be... there was no way they were going to get an opportunity of keeping them all together for possibility of future seasons through the early lengthy segment of the pandemic
... lots of U. S. viewers get smothered by U. S. & European productions.. very rarely do they get deep into "down-under" shows... missing out on lots of very worthwhile viewing.. there was talk of making a U. S. version of this story-series... just don't see it being anywhere near as good as these-8-episodes.

Disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
Firstly to include Melissa George in the promo for this show is totally misleading as she only appears in the first episode, which is a complete shame as apart from Mandy she is the only good actress in the cast.
Bad mothers? No. Gossips yes, busybodies yes but bad? No. It is insulting to call a mother a bad mother unless she really is, and these women are not bad mothers.
The acting is terrible, the storyline is painfully boring and the way the murder is solved within the final 30 minutes, when up until then there were absolutely no leads, is totally ridiculous. From Charlotte's death until the solved murder case is just a slow and painful ride. Australian drama completely missed it with this one.
