Welcome back to Dead Time. Even if you’ve only dabbled in the paranormal, chances are you’re familiar with John E.L. Tenney. Tenney is one of the most sought-after and well-known experts in the world and has more than 30 years of experience with UFOs, paranormal research, occult phenomena, and conspiracy theories. He has authored over a dozen books and worked as a consultant and appeared on TV shows like Unsolved Mysteries, Sightings, Hellier, and Kindred Spirits.
In a previous installment of Dead Time, Bloody Disgusting talked with Tenney and his best friend and co-host of the What’s Up Weirdo Podcast, Jessica Knapik, about their favorite haunted locations and Tenney shared the terrifying true story of an exorcism he attended.
This month, Bloody Disgusting was excited to have the opportunity to talk with John E.L. Tenney about conspiracy theories surrounding UFOs and UAPs, hoaxes, possible origins of the phenomena,...

Quite a few horror films claim to be based on a true story, despite the reality that they are not in fact based on actual events. It is alarming to learn that a scary story is based on facts, especially in the case of urban legends. In 1999, The Blair Witch Project used a clever marketing campaign to convince audiences the found footage film about three college students who go missing in the Black Hills Forest in Maryland, while making a documentary about a local legend known as the Blair Witch, was real. While the film is fictional and not actual footage from the missing college students, the concept may have been inspired by the story of Moll Dyer, a woman who lived in Maryland in the 17th century and was accused of practicing witchcraft. The Blair Witch Project was not the first found footage horror film, but it definitely energized the subgenre,...

As someone who is obsessed with Ufos (or more recently known as UAPs) and the concept of extraterrestrials, I love a good documentary. Sightings have been on the rise since the 1940s, with the atomic bomb seemingly acting as a catalyst for new visitors. But what are these UFOs/UAPs? Is there an explanation or are they simply beyond our explanation? Why are they here? Who are they? How much do our governments know? The questions are endless and so are the documentaries that attempt to uncover the secrets behind decades of sightings and alleged confrontations.

Fans of all things strange and paranormal are surely familiar with the so-called “Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter,” the moniker given to a truly bizarre story from 1955. Story goes that twelve people living in a farmhouse in Christian County, Kentucky had reported to police one night that tiny goblin creatures had besieged the property, and a gun battle ensued. When police arrived on the scene, they found no evidence of the alien-like creatures, but the story nevertheless rose to prominence and even inspired Steven Spielberg to write Night Skies, an unmade film that laid the groundwork for classics like Poltergeist, E.T. and Gremlins.
All these years later, have the Kentucky Goblins returned?
With the recent release of The Unbinding, it’s time to revisit the Planet Weird Original “Hellier,” a 15-part documentary series that sets out to uncover the true story behind the “Kentucky...

Welcome back to Dead Time. Suffer a witch.
This month, I was very excited to dive into the new documentary from the team behind Hellier, what I consider one of the most important paranormal docuseries ever made. From the award-winning team at Planet Weird, The Unbinding (read my review) follows Executive Producers Greg and Dana Newkirk as they investigate the origins of an unusual object that was sent to them, which they call The Crone. The Unbinding was directed by Karl Pfeiffer (Hellier) and co-produced by Connor Randall (Hellier).
Greg and Dana Newkirk regularly receive objects that people believe are haunted and are well-known for their traveling museum of haunted objects. Most of the time, they don’t experience anything from the objects they receive, but occasionally, they will get an object that displays paranormal phenomena. They first learned about The Crone from a Reddit post detailing a story about...

You don’t have to believe in the paranormal to appreciate a good ghost story. If you’ve seen the docuseries Hellier, you’re familiar with paranormal researchers Greg and Dana Newkirk’s years-long investigation into strange emails and accounts of goblin-like creatures. Now the award-winning team behind Hellier, which includes the Newkirks as Executive Producers, director Karl Pfeiffer, co-producer Connor J. Randall, and paranormal researcher Tyler Strand are releasing the new documentary The Unbinding.
The Unbinding follows a very different kind of case from the one documented in Hellier and doesn’t seek to persuade you to believe in the paranormal. Rather, it showcases the things the Newkirks do best—great storytelling and education, while also challenging the ways we interact with the unknown.

Welcome back to Dead Time. This month we’re getting technical with paranormal investigator and co-creator of the Estes Method, Connor J. Randall, who you know from Hellier and Spirits of the Stanely. If, like me, you’ve fallen down the Hellier rabbit hole, you know there’s no coming back. The wildly addictive paranormal docuseries follows a team of paranormal investigators on what begins as a search for potential goblins in Kentucky but turns into a much more complicated mystery. After receiving a couple of bizarre emails, paranormal researchers Greg and Dana Newkirk assemble a team which includes filmmaker Karl Pfeiffer and paranormal investigator Connor J. Randall and the team heads to Kentucky in search of answers.
If you’ve seen Hellier, you’ve seen the team use a tool called the Estes Method to attempt to communicate with the entities they are in search of. In 2016, while working at the Stanley Hotel,...
