Stephen Port was known as the 'Grindr Killer.'

The first episode of Four Lives examined the deaths of two young men in the hands of Port (Stephen Merchant) who found these men through a dating app.

This was combined with the police incompetence surrounding these deaths. The police failings could be linked to homophobia.

The first victim in 2014 was Anthony Walgate, a young fashion designer who. He was found dead outside Port's flat in Barking.

The police interviewed Port, they found out he was lying but did nothing further to probe his character.

Walgate's mother Sarah Sak (Sheridan Smith) was distraught by the actions of the investigating officer and even made a complaint to her own MP.

The second victim was Slovakian Gabriel Kovari. He was couchsurfing with Port. Gabriel told a neighbour that he found Port creepy.

Gabriel was discovered dead in a churchyard in Barking.

Once again the police failed to make any connections. Two young gay men were found dead through an overdose of a cocktail of drugs.

The drama tried to be non exploitative regarding the victims. There are no harrowing final moments of the victims.

The police such the family liaison officer DC Slaymaker seemed to be more clueless. He got more agitated because Sarah complained to her MP in Hull.

Merchant at times was the weak link. Port was meant to be creepy and weird. Merchant could do that. The trouble is, he does that a little too often on film and tv. It did not help that Merchant recently played an odd lawyer in The Outlaws also on the BBC.
