Eyewitness (1981)
You want to see this one if you like the actors...
The actors are the interesting part of this film. The story is secondary. If you like Hurt and Weaver, you will enjoy watching. The story is a bit over-contrived. (I know, all movies are contrived). Their problems are not easily consumed by 'ordinary' folk. But then these characters are unusual people in peculiar circumstance. Their acting is quite good though. Well worth viewing just for that.
Action (1999)
This show will be one of the GREAT CLASSICS. If...
This show will be one of the great classics if they don't compromise and keep it alive. We have never before seen any show so graphic and real as this one on broadcast television. True, the characters are caricatures and they also are very REAL. Let us all hope that FOX does not compromise this beauty they have allowed on the air for the sake of anything. "Action" is filled with both the 'in your face' and the very subtle. Let us pray that television adopts this model as evolutionary for its quest into the future. If they leave the creators alone we are assured this show will be a TV CLASSIC.
Miami Rhapsody (1995)
Can tape be turned into useful stuff like toilet paper?
I won't even bother with details of movie goods/bads on and on. This is trash. Forget any connections with Woody. I started watching because opening credits show a list of decent actors. I finished watching maybe out of masochism or perhaps because they are pretty people and I was bored anyway. This dreadful thing should be great example in film class of what not to do in just about every movie-making dimension. Not even bad enough to be worth the tape. Has anyone yet perfected the process of transforming celluloid and videotape into toilet paper?
Clueless (1995)
Like I'm totally too old for a flick I'd never be caught watching
I'm a 40s male (oh god no). And I would never even think of watching these lame teen flicks. Just zap past them when they show on TV. But this time I was stuck on it 2 minutes in and so glad I stopped to glance. This is genuinely funny stuff with self-conscious actors doing the ridiculous things and clever dialogs many other types of films could use a real dose of. It's even worth renting to watch no matter how old you are. Or if you don't get it maybe you should just like blow yourself away to put the rest of us out of your misery.
Grand Canyon (1991)
I must be stupid
I read some very good reviews and was expecting a decent film. It includes actors I recognize and have liked. Must be I'm oblivious or just too stupid to comprehend it. I fell asleep about half hour in. Tried again and failed again. Possibly TV editing did it. But I don't think so. This movie must simply be beyond my little mind.
Mr. Saturday Night (1992)
I fell asleep
Although I like the actors in this film, I fell asleep within an hour of starting to watch. It is evidently quite boring.
Jurassic Park (1993)
They made this film with a straight face.
It is astonishing how truly excellent special effects can distract us from the most ridiculous story. Imagine capitalism run amuck leading scientists to finance a dangerous (and improbable) research project by making it into an amusement park! Silly science, weak script, insipid characters and acting (except Jeff Goldblum) produce a movie disaster. Still I enjoyed watching this peculiar film. Quality dinosaurs and scenery.
