Skin Game (1971)
The Funny Side of Slavery?
Tries to create humor in the context of the old South, and actually succeeds to some extent. But it still rides old stereotypes.
There are worse movies you could see.
Band of Angels (1957)
Chop up a decent book and mix in bad acting, bad accents, bad scripting, bad editing, and sheer incoherence.
This is NOT Gone with the Wind. Twenty years later, the portrayals of slavery are even more off-reality, but this time it's in a starkly unpleasant ride. The book must have been a fairly long and complicated ride, because the movie is completely incoherent. Characters will do one thing, and turn around and do the opposite for no reason whatsoever.
No one in this movie is playing a real human being. Each is merely playing many cliched stereotypes smashed into one list of badly-written lines. This movie is pure agony to sit through. It is not so bad that you want to laugh at it; it's worse. You'll groan, you'll feel nausea, and you'll regret you ever saw it.
For heaven's sake, DON'T SEE THIS MOVIE!
