Wrestlers CAN act, when they try...
13 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I cannot say enough good things about this movie... despite other (negative) reviews you'll see here, it deserves a chance if only for the sharp, fast-paced, and witty dialog. The story is not too hard to follow, but you will get lost in the quick scene changes if you're not paying attention as characters will often finish the thoughts and words of the previous scenes characters only for the set up of the scene that follows. The plot is your basic romantic comedy formula where six men all vie for the attention of one woman, who seems very flighty at best, without ever stopping to wonder if she might actually be worth all the trouble they're going through to be with her. Steve Borden, aka "Sting", shines as one of the six "regular guys" chasing this beautiful woman and proves, to me any ways, that wrestlers can act if they try.

The Flying Car (2002 TV Short)

Vintage Kevin Smith...but now a question???
29 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Watching this again from a backup disc I found after several years, I'm now curious about something that was sparked by a few lines of the dialog. In the course of the discussion about "The Flying Car" (2002), Randall goes into absurd length details, as always, about the conditions under which Dante could obtain the car for sharing with all mankind. By the way, I'm only typing all this detail because I'm told I can't comment without making it at least 10 lines long. So Randall mentions the German scientist will hack off Dante's foot with a hacksaw, right? Does this sound at all like the conclusion to "SAW" (2004)? I wonder if Kevin ever thought about this after he, or if he ever, watched SAW? Hmmmm!

Fletch (1985)
Awesome 80's, but here's a question...
3 August 2004
Saw this film again the other day on AMC and remembered all the reasons I loved it back in the 80's, but (hopefully) being a little wiser perhaps just more cynical] a question came to mind. When Stanwyck first approaches "Mr. Nugent" on the beach to set up the sub-plot of the film, he does so with the thought that he is just another beach junkie who could disappear and no one would miss. With this impression of him in mind, why would Stanwyck even entertain the thought that Fletch (remember, someone he thinks of as a beach bum/junkie) has could get in just a few days!] a passport? Getting a passport takes weeks (recent experience) or months in some cases. Of course, Stanwyck isn't exactly the brightest bulb in the fridge...

Unique film in it's performances...even if the plot is predictable
2 November 2002
I caught this one late night after work on some cable channel and was literally riveted to the sofa. The performances, especially LaPaglia and Pollack, were very good. The plot leaves a little to be desired but the overall story more than makes up for the lulls (very few, at that) in the action. If you have a chance, SEE THIS FILM. You won't be disappointed.

The "Stinger" is back...
1 January 2000
The man called "Sting" (WCW) is back in a very good action/thriller type movie. His first outing was as close to comic genius (The Real Reason, Men Commit Crimes) as I've seen from the "wrestlers turned movie actors." In Shutterspeed, Steve Borden is a narcotics officer who gets caught up in foreign epsionage when his fiancees brother witnesses a murder while working in Berlin and winds up with a camera containing film that someone else would, and does, kill for. Although Borden's characteristic "stone face" can be mildly irritating at times, he does a very good job in the "cop avenging friends murder" role.

Johnny Bravo (1997–2004)
"Oh yeah, when a woman screams I just feel the need to be there!"
6 November 1999
I caught this show quite by mistake one day and haven't missed an episode since. My favorite by far has to be "Cookie Crisis" in which little Susie is selling Johnny cookies for her little "Buttercup" troop all the while delivering dialog in the style of Doctor Seus. It's hard to believe the guy who played Eddie in Friday the 13th Part VII would become Johnny Bravo only 9 years later.

Sure to cause a religious uprising...
9 October 1999
This latest gem from Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy) is a GODsend. And yes, I said GODsend. Anyone who attacks this film based on what they've heard, or been told, it's about really needs to "wake up". Carlin is superb. If I were the Pope I'd make him an official Cardinal (who knows, might bring some "real" life to religion). And no, I'm not a blasphemer I'm a realist. Should you feel the need to attack me based on my beliefs (but what good Christian would do that?), please e-mail me so I can revel in your narrow-minded, Nazi-esque stupidity. And last but not least, HAVE A NICE DAY AND SEE DOGMA!!!
