I shouldn't like this so much
7 November 2011
Reading the other user comments, I would think that I'd hate this show. I don't like shows that make fun of other people, I sometimes have trouble with un-PC topics, and the sexual stuff seems as if it should be the most offensive thing in the world. NOW FOR THE BIG BUT... I love it. It makes me laugh, it's shocking and silly. It only works because it's a cartoon. I literally laughed out loud at times during both of the first two episodes. So - Give it a try! You might be surprised that you like it, and you might be surprised that you hate it. It's just a TV show, and it's just a cartoon. The voices are fantastic, though the father is by far the most irritating character on the show.

Once Upon a Time (2011–2018)

If the premise appeals to you, stick with it!

I love the premise of this. But there are some really poor scenes in the first half of the premier. The acting seemed bad, the script was uncomfortable, large parts of that section were very hard to swallow. The other half of the story where most of the action takes place is plausible, well acted, packed with emotional resonance and charming. It's also got a great dark side to it and the story doesn't hit you over the head by trying to explain every detail of what is going on. There are characters who I think I have figured out but I'm not certain, so I look forward to finding out. However I stuck with it and was rewarded with a marvelous overall premier and I'm looking forward to watching 1.2 right now!

It's "Veronica Mars" meets "The Big Lebowski"

Love this show! It's "Veronica Mars" meets "The Big Lebowski". The episodes are clever and totally unpredictable. You will never see what's coming around each corner of this plot but it's completely plausible and very entertaining. Episode three in particular has enough plot twists for four episodes. The two main actors are great together. Though every once in awhile I'm reminded of the character that Michael Raymond-James played on "True Blood" and I have to remind myself that he's good now. Good enough anyway. Sexy, plausible, funny, smart, very cool. I hope this one keeps on going. It might be too slow-paced for the mainstream.

Raising Hope (2010–2014)

Hopeful for further fun

Warning: Spoilers
Just finished watching episode one. I was very pleased and thought it was hilarious at times, just plain funny at others and touching. It walks a fine line of stereotyping "white trash" for lack of a better description. But the relationships keep showing greater complexity. There are many moments that show humanity and humor. One scene in particular is absolutely hilarious, but at the same time unbelievably, outrageously "I can't believe they did that". You'll know it when you see it and you have to admit it's hilarious. Just finished watching S01-12. This show is AWESOME! Absolutely hilarious, great dialogue and they walk to the edge of the humor/bad-taste line and keep it on the right sided always. I've raised my rating from 8-9.

Better than anyone could have hoped for.

One of my favorite books of all time turned into a TV series that shows up out of no where. I was expecting something truly disappointing. After watching the first two episodes I can honestly say this is beyond my highest expectations. The plot development is different from the book, but the emotional impact of the story is fully present. The character development draws you in just like the book did. Your desire to know what happens next will surpass that of reading the book. It is such a wonderful thing to see an adaptation that captures it's source so fully and even surpasses it at times. I can't wait for the remaining episodes. This show will win many awards. Addendum after Episode #3: Things dipped a bit in this episode. If I was rating this show using the 10 stars that IMDb uses, I would have gone from 9 previously to 7 now. There were some overly cheesy moments in this episode that seemed to dilute the storytelling skill from the first two episodes. Hopefully this is a rare occurrence.

Misfits (2009–2013)
9/10
Great laughs, witty, silly & smart all at once

Warning: Spoilers
As an outsider, I relate to these characters. The show got better and better as it went along, though some of the best laughs were in the beginning. Maybe because I was still getting used to the outrageous things coming out of their mouths. Episode 5-6 are brilliant. It takes the whole zombie thing and turns it on it's head. What if the zombies were the "good" guys and the rest of us misfits were the ones trying to save the world. I guess that's close to reality as it is. Even though Simon is the creepiest one in the bunch, there is something about him that's very appealing. Nathan is a total t_w_a_t, but hilarious. I can't help but admire the character for holding together and having some decency despite his ego and attitude.

Josh does it again

This show is pure high quality entertainment. JW knows his stuff, and shows it here. The acting is also excellent. I've watched the first two shows and the second one is better than the first. Full of plot twists, surprises and changes in genre - horror to romance to thriller to cop to etc.... The basic premise allows for a lot of wiggle room. In the wrong hands that could be a recipe for garbage, but this is anything but. More about the second show without spoiling it. It is an amazing work of suspense and horror. I was totally absorbed in the story. The "engagement" was quite twisted, but that's what made it interesting. I'm going to finish watching the rest of the first season and will update this listing if anything changes in my opinion.

Kings (2009)
10/10
Dramatic, deep and a delight to watch
7 April 2009
One of my favorite new shows. Every episode has been enjoyable and builds the storyline in a good way. I like the quasi biblical feeling to the whole thing; it's epic. My concern is that the story will have to end at some point, and maybe that's an OK thing. It will hopefully burn brightly and end in its own time. I'm glad that IMDb is presenting the episodes here to watch as I do not have HBO. I was surprised to here some criticism of this show as being about religion and God. My opinion is that it's as much about these things as "Battlestar Gallactica" was. Unlike Battlestar Galactica, I find the episodes of Kings to be fuller and more interesting.
