Redwood Curtain (1995)
Bravo, well done
Over the years i must have seen at least several thousand movies, and i think this one would have to be in my top ten. The first half is a little slow, but thats only because you dont know the secret. The last fifteen minutes are powerful, well worth the wait. Pay attention when you watch this film, things are not as they seem. A vietnamese/american girl is adopted by an american couple, and although she has a very good life she becomes restless wondering about her roots. When her adopted father dies, she sets out to find her real father and finds him in the most unlikely of places. Bravo to the folks who made this film. Well done indeed.
Hard Times (1975)
An all time best guy flick
A lot of women might not think much of this, but if you are a guy who likes action and this type of movie, I think its one of the all time greats. Some of the best casting I have ever seen. Unquestionably bronsons best, but almost everyone here seems born for their roles. Funny how great films sometimes are so little known. Like I said, its a guy movie, but if you qualify don't miss this one.
The Education of Little Tree (1997)
A great movie that will make you think
I first saw this movie when it was on cable while i was doing something else, but i was soon riveted to the screen. And have since watched it twice more. Don't know about the book but this is a powerful film, although i am not quite sure why. Maybe because it tells the story from such a different perspective than most of us tend to look at things. This movie has no big stars or recognizable (to me) faces but many memorable scenes, especially the one with the little boy and girl. Definitely worth watching.
Slap Shot (1977)
Not just for hockey or sports fans
Not being a hockey fan or even caring about it, i wondered how much i would like this. But i should have known, its always hard to go wrong with anything newman is involved with. The hansen brothers are just hilarious, although its about 50 minutes into the film their first game is one of the funniest scenes in movie history. As with all humor, this movie is so funny because there is so much truth to it. And seems like the more i see of paul newman the more i wonder if this guy has ever made a bad flick, ever.
Tootsie (1982)
If you can't lose weight try this movie
Whenever I think of Ttootsie I always try to remember all the comedies I have seen over the years. Because this has to be the funniest. Hoffman is great as usual but Dabney Coleman deserved an oscar for this one. If your pants are too tight watch this flick and laugh your behind off.
Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)
Definitely worth seeing
I dont normally find robin williams comedy very funny, but this is an exception. As someone else here has said, he was born to play this role. And as with some of his other flicks, he shows great range. Between the many laughs are serious and reflective moments. Whether you like williams or not, are a vietnam vet or not this movie will keep your attention and is really worth seeing.
Enemy of the State (1998)
Stay off the phone!
This is one of the the best action movies of all time, right up there with The Terminator. great casting throughout and just enough comic relief. Although many will not buy the technical details, the fact is that the government (the state) has those capabilities and more but they dont want you to believe it. This is not only a good action flick, it will really make you think about what the future holds. Or even the present.
