Demonwarp (1988)
This movie turned out a little boring, but it actually got better!
I rented this movie at Rogers video, and may I say that it was quite alright even if it was made on a low budget, but it would definetely stood a chance at playing in theatres. A neat horror-science fiction gorefest. There's good supporting roles by Billy Jacoby(whom I remembered being a regular for a while in that bland sitcom "Silver Spoons") and by cult B-movie scream queen Michelle Bauer and boy did she ever scream when she first spotted that alien monster and was topless too running away from it. They both had quite good parts. It's a rare video to find, but if you come across from it, rent it! Worth checking out!
The Tomb (1986)
Some scenes were dull and some weren't, but it was still well done for a B-movie
This movie was average, but worth checking out! We have a couple of familiar faces like John Carradine and a special appearance by Sybil Danning. But there were alot of virtual unknowns. This marks scream queen Michelle Bauer's first horror film as she portrays a possessed mummy from an ancient Tomb. She's mellodramatic at many times, but she's that way in most films. There's some great music in this movie and it probably did play in theatres in it's time, Unlike the movies you see Bauer in these days that has an awful budget! Someone says that B-movie director Fred Olen Ray's films don't hit theatre's, but what do they know?! This one definetely stood a chance and twice it showed the opening credits saying "The Tomb!" The ending is the best part no doubt about it, even you horror fans will agree! There's also a cameo by cult actress from the film "Surf Nazis Must Die!", Dawn Wildsmith who plays a lesbian and gets eaten alive by Bauer's snakes!
Murder Weapon (1989)
The worst Linnea Quigley movie by all means!!!
I can't believe that Quigley would want to produce this awful gore-slasher film! Badly acted, badly plotted and bad special effects! I'm surprised that former "Carol Burnett Show" co-star Lyle Waggoner would participate in this film as a counsellor. And there's also Cheesy B-movie star Karen Russell who plays Quigley's sister. And there's an actor that I'm sure played the Santa Clause killer in "Silent Night, Deadly Night 2", with a different name. Well this movie didn't hit theatre's no doubt, and it was made when the slasher craze was going out of style, until Wes Craven brought it all back in 1996 with "Scream", now that's a movie that Quigley should've produced! She was better in movies like "Return of the Living Dead", "Night of the Demons", and "Sorrority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama!"
Sleepaway Camp (1983)
A shocking and confusing story!
When I rented this movie, I thought that this film would be like "Friday the 13th", but boy was I wrong! It starts with an opening showing what happened after the ending, then it shows a prologue, also there's flashback memories that are very confusing.(I had to see it again to totally understand it!) It's not such a bad movie though, but not great either, the plot is about a bunch of people being stalked by a bloodthirsty killer whenever they're mean to a strange shy girl(wait till the ending). This did hit theatre's, I found out in November of 1983,but alot of these actors are virtual unknowns except for people like Mike Kellin who played the head camp counsellor Meg, whom appeared in numerous movies and T.V. shows including "The Boston Strangler", Christopher Collett who played Paul and went on to star in other movies and T.V. shows including "The Manhattan Project" and Broadway shows, John Dunn who played the troublemaking Kenny who starred in "Andy Warhol's Bad" and "The Picasso Trigger" and now an executive for HBO, and Jonathan Tiersten who played Ricky, he appeared in one other film in '87 called "Seasonal Differences", then moved on to start a rock band called "Bambi's Apartment." Of course there's Felissa Rose who played Angela, even though she didn't pursue her career in film, she's active in live theatre, but she never played Angela in the "Sleepaway" sequels because she was busy with college, instead Bruce Springsteen's sister played her instead and did a better job, but the sequels weren't as good as this one though. Nice music score by Frankie Vinci, especially the ending song!
Demented (1994)
One of the worst budget I've ever seen in a made for video release!!!
What an awful movie! The filming looked like that it was done on a camera that was used from a community cable station! And I remember reading on the video cartridge that it was based on a true story. Yeah right!!!! I don't think that anyone is gullible enough to believe that! It's hard to believe that an old lady can play a blood thirsty butchering maniac. Cast features glam rocker David Bowie's wife Angela and comedic scream queen Michelle (McLellan) Bauer, but there's nothing comedic about this gory film!
Red Lips (1995)
Not bad for a no budget film!
I rented this one along with "Demented", and let me tell you, I was disgusted with both of them! This film was no-doubt filmed on a camcorder camera. I'm surprised that they would actually release it! Michelle Bauer's character was good, but C'mon, at least put some money into making this movie. A soft core lesbian porn horror movie dud!
Death Row Diner (1988)
Another lame made for video with Michelle Bauer!
When I first watched this movie I had to crank up the volume on my T.V. set to actually hear what was said. I also thought that this would be a comedy/horror, but towards the end, it turned out to be just a plain stupid dark comedy! There's inside jokes on her movie "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers", which also featured Jay Richardson, who's also in this dumb movie and was distributed by the same company and director. C'mon Michelle do an interesting movie for once, with a better made budget!
Slaughterhouse (1987)
After seeing this sick and gory teenage slasher film, the smartest thing I did is that I dropped it off to the video store the next day!!!
A disgusting film I might say! Nothing good about it! Name says it all! When I saw the cover of the cartridge when I first saw it it said, "Contains material too intense for it'd theatrical release." This was actually played in theatre's???? It obviously didn't do too well at all! Alot of sick humour and dumb jokes(which involves the dead bodies) in this one! Most of these actors were virtual unknowns except for certain members like Sherry Bendorf (Whom I saw in another horror film called "Demon Wind", who was the only cast member worth watching), Joel Hoffman (Who was the first one that got butchered in the film, and I've seen him in two other horror films called "Slumber Party Massacre 2" and "Pumpkinhead"), and a few others, but this film is definetely the pits! My guess is that a college student had an idea to make a sick and pointless movie, well it worked! And most of all, what a bad ending! Where's the coroner when you need one???
Young Warriors (1983)
Not bad, but not very good either!
This movie was just average. Some scenes were good and some were just plain stupid! A well supported cast though and some good action. The best actor in this movie is definetely Anne Lockhart from the T.V. series "Battlestar Galactica." Cast also features "Mission: Impossible's" Lynda Day George, Mike Norris (Chuck's brother) and a supporting role by cult actress Linnea Quigley as Ginger(lookin' good!), who only appears in a few, but good scenes. There's also a one violent rape scene by a vicious gang which was well done! Savage Streets did a movie like this a year later (which also featured Quigley, but the role was bigger and better), except it was alot better than this movie! Some of the scene's in this movie was filmed in my hometown.
